If David Horowitz Speaking on Your Campus Makes You Feel Unsafe, The Terrorists Have Won.
Gaze upon the new face of campus horror, if you dare.
Some readers will recognize the grim visage of David Horowitz to the right. Horowitz is the P.C.-hating activist whose personal odyssey from hardcore '60s radical lefty to Reagan-grokkin' conservative agitator has been documented endlessly in his own writings and those of countless other champions and critics.
Horowitz recently spoke to "an audience of about 100 people" at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a campus with about 30,000 students and 3,600 faculty. He was invited by the College Republicans.
According to student-newspaper accounts, Horowitz said "that student organizations like the Muslim Students' Association and Students for Justice in Palestine are connected to terrorist organizations." Which is another way of saying he was mailing it in.
Yet his very presence provoked a campus hashtag campaign under the name #notsafeUNC. The student organizer explained:
"It came out of a desire to create a platform for students to be able to explain and share their own situations and experiences and incidents that have happened to them on campus that have made feel unsafe."
Because this is a contemporary college, there is the requisite quote from a student who holds some vague position of power ("senior advisor the student body president") about how college is no place for freedom of thought and speech:
[Andrew] Brennen said though he is a supporter of freedom of speech, Horowitz's speech was unacceptable.
"I love intellectual diversity, but I do not think that intellectual diversity should be used as a means to target students on campus."

Man, colleges are just racing towards becoming irrelevant.
Rampant rape! Unsafe feelings!
And, on the "true" side, exorbitant tuition.
So yeah, why would you go unless you have to? Oh, right...
NO RUNNING.
Hahaha, you can't parody these people. I saw something a couple of weeks ago where the NC legislature wants to make the UNC system focus more on teaching than research, but really, with kids like this what's the point?
I'm too lazy to read the "whole thing here".
Does anyone know if the veracity of the Hotowitz statement:
" organizations like the Muslim Students' Association and Students for Justice in Palestine are connected to terrorist organizations"
was mentioned?
I love intellectual diversity, but
No, you really don't.
that have happened to them on campus that have made feel unsafe
Fuck that shit. Grow up you bunch of immature little whiny arse brats.
This is nothing less than a thinly veiled attack on free speech by the far left.
I loved having all of the crazy speakers when I was at UF. We had ex-CIA guys, extremists of all colors, etc. Along with the normal sorts of speakers. While they all got protested, at least everyone got why the school invited all of those different kinds of thinkers.
Fuck that shit. Grow up you bunch of immature little whiny arse brats.
I blame the internet and video game violence. Seriously, the lack of actual wars and actual violence has created a void dominated by trolls and SJW white knights.
We have been at war since 2001....
Nick, you missed the, and I'm so sorry for this pun, elephant in the room. Regarding Mitt Romney:
"UNC's College Republicans and Duke should not lend the pageantry and platforms they did to speakers such as Horowitz and ***ROMNEY*** if they will only use their platform to advance ideological agendas with little grounding in academic discussions of these critical issues."
Emphasis added. Got that? Campus Republicans shouldn't invite their own party's presidential candidate from 3 years ago.
You'd think everyone would be okay with a campus political party inviting it's own party's presidential candidate to speak, but that's because you've underestimated how retarded the modern left is.
Not if that presidential candidate represents hateful things! And is anti-science! And is in the war on womyn! And doesn't support abortion rights. And-----
(Falls down foaming at mouth)
with little grounding in academic discussions of these critical issues
We know they're not grounded in academic discussions because if they were they'd be SJWs too!
Yes, Mittens, that radical right winger elected by the ultra conservative denizens of Massachusetts. Rooney, the Ayatollah from the Charles River!
To be fair, is there a difference between David Horowitz and Adam Lanza?
Horowitz is alive?
Horowitz hasn't gunned down any little kids?
Horowitz not only hasn't killed his mother, he likely never even considered it even once?
Sarcasm, I presume.
But I have heard it said that the assistant leader to the assistant student body president has had unnatural relations with sheep. I'm not saying it's true, but are we sure it's not true?
This is NC we're talking about so it's a pretty safe bet it's true.
Go off to one of the meth labs which decorate your otherwise-desolate landscape in whatever the fuck wretched part of Yankeedom you live in.
If it's NC, those relations wouldn't be considered unnatural
Sigh, the day that requires a /sarcasm tag is...well, a Monday it turns out.
Seriously, I'm sure Richman considers Horowitz's advocacy for Israel equally if not more abhorrent than American Sniper (book and movie).

'Why I fled libertarianism and became a liberal'
So that you could write pure sheep shit and get paid for it?
The fact that you find no "I was once a liberal"-conversion stories among libertarians?
you can't un-retard yourself.
See, e.g., Tony and shriek.
Block and Hoppe talk about being lefties before conversion.
you're just proving my point.
I was never a liberal but I thought I was a feminist. You know, believing in the radical notion that women are people. Then I was at an event and some scrawny guy tried to explain to me that I couldn't be a true feminist if I didn't embrace socialism. I didn't see it that way and also didn't find his condescending tone very 'empowering'. The next event the subject of guns came up - I had assumed feminist of all people would be in favor of concealed carry. So they all explained again why I was wrong and I just sort of wandered away, sadder but theoretically wiser.
I voted for Clinton the first time...
Though according to Shrike Clinton is the most Libertarian president since Carter.
I still am a liberal. Libertarianism is simple another word for classical liberalism.
The problem is that the term "liberal" has been taken over by progressives (itself a misnomer)
More evidence that one should ignore any part of a sentence that comes before "but".
Target how?
Does he mean criticize? Does he mean shoot at with a battle rifle? Does he mean paint with a LANTIRN targeting laser?
You know, like that Palin chick. The librarian porn star who was governor or something.
You mean Lisa Ann?
Governor of Alaska, I think. Or maybe that was Carl Weathers?
No, it's that part after "but" that you need to focus on to get the speaker's true belief.
Ah yes, the old "I'm in favor of free speech but..." crapola. *facepalm* You're either for free speech or you're not, you fucking asshat.
"I love intellectual diversity, but I do not think that intellectual diversity should be used as a means to target students on campus."
1. Saying "mean things" about a couple of student orgs is not "targeting" them. If he had told the crowd to go out and burn down their houses, then the little shit might have a point.
2. No, dipshit, you don't "love intellectual diversity," you just claim you do to strike the right pose. This little shitstain should learn to embrace who/ what he really is: an authoritarian asshole who can't handle the idea of anyone saying things he disagrees with.
I keep saying this, but it keeps being true--the left and true civil libertarians in general were all for Nazis marching among concentration camp survivors, because free speech was sacrosanct in the U.S. At least, it was as recently as the 1970s.
You don't get it. He othered them! This is one of the high crimes of the sensitivity trained campus elites.
I love intellectual diversity
Everything from Utne Reader to Mother Jones.

The epistemology modifier.
If David Horowitz Speaking on Your Campus Makes You Feel Unsafe, The Terrorists Have Won
The terrorists have apparently won. And they aren't a bunch of bearded jihadists from some desert village in Somalia. They're a bunch of frumpy spoiled white girls from an affluent all white neighborhood.
As a rebuttal, the girls in North Carolina are hot.
That is all.
The SJWs?
You must be the source cause of that 1 in 5 number
that said, i don't necessarily disagree.
My alma mater was #2 when i went. now it is mere #5. That said = UCSB was #1 in the 1990s and is now trailing.
these sorts of things are only *mostly* bullshit. the factors that i think are most influential tend to be, "How rich are the parents of most students", and "how good is the weather?". If the answers are "very" and "generally great", you get lots-o-hotties.
Terrorists didn't do this. This has been building for fifty years. Socialists realized they would never win a general election outright and they targeted the schools, the teachers, the universities, the nurses unions, and the press. The socialists have won.
Temporarily, of course. Because stupidity eventually collapses on its own.
Because claiming that certain student organizations are connected to terrorists = "targeting students".
You know, if you believe that claim is false, the correct thing to do is to file a libel suit.
Not whine that the speaker involved makes you feel all squishy.
Like SJWs in general, the ones who create these college campus stories are a perpetually aggrieved vocal minority. At worst a few of these morons will stumble into politics but most will either grow up when they enter the real world or hold down dead end jobs while convincing themselves it is not their fault.
In any case I don't think the next generation is screwed just because we're more aware of such whiny groups that can't tolerate free speech.
The entire world held its collective breath last week, as some neo-fabian wanker complained that Lewis Hamilton sprayed a Chinese grid girl with champagne on the podium. It was disrespectful and oppressive, you know.
You know, like virtually every other race winner has done.
Maybe we should stop listening to such whiny cunts?
Maybe we should stop listening to such whiny cunts?
We have. Unfortunately, those in power seem to grovel at their feet.
Unfortunately, those in power seem to grovel at their feet.
You presume that they're anything more than the agents of those in power.
See the decision of Yu v. Vassar.
The problem is, is that no matter how small a minority they are, they are effectively dictating campus policy and turning the college administrations into a bunch of fucking Nazis.
This cannot end well for universities and colleges. Unfortunately, it's going to destroy a lot of innocent people in the process.
"This cannot end well for universities and colleges"
That's not a problem per se. The market would eliminate bad colleges and replace them with ones that work. The problem is that it will end well for public colleges, because instead of going out of business when they fail, they just have more money thrown at them
I don't know about the terrorists winning, but if David Horowitz speaking on your campus makes you feel unsafe, you rally have no business being on a college campus. You've demonstrated a complete lack of ability with regard to either critical thinking or logical analysis.
And, besides, you really don't need a 6-year bachelor's degree in transgressive hermeneutics to make me a goddamned latte!
if David Horowitz speaking on your campus makes you feel unsafe, you rally have no business being on a college campus
It seems that is the main attraction for going to college these days. You can white like spoiled children and get adults in charge of things to do your bidding like mindless puppets.
That's because there are too many colleges. A bunch of schools simply need to go out of business and a bunch of students need to be told, "I'm sorry, but you're just not college material." Frankly, a lot of professors need to be told the same thing. And an honest alternative to the credentialing racket needs to be worked out.
If you get that, most of this falls away. Serious students aren't devoting their college careers to playing the role of cadre to their professoriate.
Are you forgetting about the federal payola?
No. I know that's what is stopping a market correction from happening.
Really, all of this is nothing more than a consequence of an unjustifiably large academic sector. You have way too many people who don't belong in college in college because the federal government is subsidizing their presence. You have way too many professors teaching these people who shouldn't be there in the first place curricula of limited, if any, value.
The feds subsidize the whole fiasco because without the federal subsidy the whole thing would come crashing down, obviating a lot of dubiously qualified administrators and a lot of dubiously qualified faculty.
Exactly.
curricula of limited, if any, value.
All college curricula have value. Of course, in some cases the value is negative.
"It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."
Mark Twain
" A bunch of schools simply need to go out of business"
This is true.
However, democrats seem to be falling over themselves trying to federally fund "free college'" for people as fast as they can. If anything, the trend is going the other way = there are efforts to stimulate even more demand for worthless college degrees. And little in the way of stopping it.
However, democrats seem to be falling over themselves trying to federally fund "free college'" for people as fast as they can. If anything, the trend is going the other way = there are efforts to stimulate even more demand for worthless college degrees.
Well, of course they are. Administrators and faculty are a reliable constituency. And, like any bubble, this one needs to keep expanding, or it implodes in on itself. If you don't keep expanding the college population and creating more faculty and administrative jobs, what do you do with the marginally educated (or educable) with degrees beyond their level of ability? They start moving out into the population with massive debt and prospects not particularly different from what they had going into college. That, in turn, starts putting pressure against college and...well...I think you can figure the rest.
He needs to figure out that the likes of Anderson, Block, DiLorenzo, Grigg, Hoppe, Napolitano, Paul, Peters, Rockwell, Rothbard, Shaffer, Ward and Wenzel are the real deal.
"I'm a college educated 30 something. I deserve a house in my favorite city, a fully funded retirement fund, and a fulfilling job. The fact that I don't have it is all the Republicans' fault who give my money to the 1%" ... Or something like that
What's sad is that Albert Jay Nock recognized that and wrote a book about it...in the 1930s IIRC. He focused on the distinction between being educable and being trainable, and said that while most people are trainable, few are educable.
He would probably end up in jail charged with "hate crimes" for saying that today.
The reason that this shit should terrify everyone and that it must be met with severe blow back is that before too much longer, it won't even be necessary to say something racist or sexist to get you accused of hate speech, but only to say that you said something that made someone feel 'unsafe'. You see where this is headed? The complete elimination of any speech that does not conform to what a bunch of unhinged malcontents want to hear, and the rise of being able to use that against anyone at any time. That sounds Orwellian, because it is.
There are some people who claim that using the term "Orwellian" is hyperbolic.
They are wrong.
I love intellectual diversity, but
No need to read past.
I feel safer having him on a campus then roaming the halls of the white house.
Meanwhile, people at UNC stroke themselves to a climax for the time in the 60s they defended the free-speech rights of communists (or, as they're called nowadays, "radical historians" and "civil-liberties activists")
http://docsouth.unc.edu/static.....8_full.jpg
I attended UNC in the early 80's. It was a fairly liberal campus by any measure. There were protests at the time over any speaker who was perceived to be anything other than a part of the left orthodoxy - or perhaps challenging that orthodoxy from further left.
There were a few controversies about speakers from the Nation of Islam who made overtly racist speeches, but nobody really thought to ban them. They did work pretty hard to pull funding from conservative student groups though.
The amount of misinformation being flung about really shocked me at the time. The LGBT student association regularly evangelized on campus and had flyers that proclaimed 10-12% of the population to be gay, and 75% to be bi. One of the African American Studies professors (Jeffries) famously wrote in the DTH that black students living on the main campus were living under apartheid and should instead segregate themselves to south campus. No clue what he was on.... but his racist rants did eventually lead to the formation of the department that caused the current academic scandal in UNC athletics.
So yeah, this is pretty much right in line for UNC, or any major college campus.
I dated a UNC girl, well lots of them, and yeah they are far left extreme. One former friend thought that pornography should be banned in the US. Crazy how a college educated woman in the 90s wanted to ban what is to become the most popular form of media. She was a journalism major. How smart.
They ran out of pampers in Chapel Hill.....again? What is this, Caracas?
🙂
