This Prof Dared to Challenge Her Students' Views on Sex. Here's How They Retaliated.
The Title IX Inquisition infantilizes students and tramples the rights of the faculty.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition, but everyone who lives or works at a college probably should. A Northwestern University professor recently lamented the "intellectually embarrassing" atmosphere of moral panic concerning sex and rape on campus in a column for The Chronicle of Higher Education. Several students who didn't appreciate her opinion—perhaps it triggered them—responded by filing formal complaints against her with the university's Title IX coordinator.
Has it truly come to this? Will academics be subjected to heresy trials for daring to challenge their students' immature, unhealthy, and increasingly dictatorial views about sex and consent?
That seems to be the case for Laura Kipnis, an author and professor of media studies at NU. Her column for The Chronicle documented the cultural and administrative changes made at NU in recent years, ostensibly for the purpose of combatting sexism. Kipnis is not a fan of the changes, which she claims are anti-feminist, infantilizing, and contributing to a culture of fear:
The feminism I identified with as a student stressed independence and resilience. In the intervening years, the climate of sanctimony about student vulnerability has grown too thick to penetrate; no one dares question it lest you're labeled antifeminist. Or worse, a sex criminal. I asked someone on our Faculty Senate if there'd been any pushback when the administration presented the new consensual-relations policy (though by then it was a fait accompli—the senate's role was "advisory").
"I don't quite know how to characterize the willingness of my supposed feminist colleagues to hand over the rights of faculty—women as well as men—to administrators and attorneys in the name of protection from unwanted sexual advances," he said. "I suppose the word would be 'zeal.'" His own view was that the existing sexual-harassment policy already protected students from coercion and a hostile environment; the new rules infantilized students and presumed the guilt of professors. When I asked if I could quote him, he begged for anonymity, fearing vilification from his colleagues.
"Begging for anonymity" was apparently the wise course of action, because Kipnis's article caused quite a stir on campus. Students marched in protest and started a petition demanding that the administration condemn the professor's "toxic ideas… because they have no place here."
Even worse, at least two students filed complaints against Kipnis, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education:
Two students have lodged complaints against Ms. Kipnis, in part for alleged inaccuracies in her essay, with the university's Title IX coordinator.
The Title IX coordinator's job is to handle sexual assault and harassment cases, so the implication here is that merely disagreeing with a student is akin to creating a hostile work environment.
I reached out to Kipnis to learn more about the complaints against her; she declined comment for unspecified reasons, though I imagine she might be required to keep quiet about the matter until it's settled.
Drexel University provides another example of the overzealousness of the Victorian morality police. Last month, Professor Lisa McElroy sent her students an email containing a link to a suggested reading. Unfortunately for her, she copy + pasted a porn link by mistake. That's a mortifying thing to do—it's not a crime, or shouldn't be. And yet the university's Title IX coordinator had little choice but to investigate the matter. McElroy was placed on leave pending the results of that process.
In an excellent post titled "The Tyranny of Title IX," Above the Law's Tamara Tabo questions whether McElroy's mistake could have possibly created a hostile sexual environment for her students:
Lisa McElroy probably did not intend to create a hostile environment for anyone. She may not have actually offended most of her students. Common sense and compassion will probably lead to a quiet resolution to the case. I hope so.
But what if Lisa McElroy were a man? Would observers be as quick to give the benefit of the doubt? If a male professor foisted anal-bead porn on an unsuspecting class of students, would we wonder, even if just a little bit longer, if he meant to do it? Would we be as forgiving, even if we concluded that the porn link was a terrible mistake? Would people argue that he created a hostile environment for his female students, no matter what?
There is a terrible irony that laws and policies created to prevent gender discrimination can treat members of one gender differently and unfairly.
As a university employee, my personal experience with Title IX has been discouraging, frustrating, alienating. I have been recruited to join complaints against male colleagues, most recently against someone with whom I was friends outside of our workplace. I have, when I refused to be a complainant, been interviewed as a witness. I have, when interviewed as a witness, been grilled over a multitude of conversations and social interactions that took place away from campus, in the company of adults, that I never expected that I would one day have to explain in a formal setting.
These occurrences should alarm everyone who cares about the state of intellectual discourse on college campuses. I expect micro-aggressed students will soon be shouting "burn the witch!" at professors who offend them—or would be, if they possessed any self-awareness and were sufficiently educated to appreciate the reference.

"You've been saved by that F.I.R.E. god you like to mock. You're in his army now."
She should have played that Gillespie/Paglia interview for them. They would have passed out from the vapors.
Based on my own lived experiences in Evanston, the Northwestern kids would be better off having someone teach them how to safely cross the street and leave Prof. Kipnis alone until they've mastered the art of not wandering into traffic.
Great. Now you've triggered the kids who were traumatized by the crossing guards' stern warnings.
Speaking as someone who's been one of them and still drives by there all the time: it's embarrassing.
until they've mastered the art of not wandering into traffic.
Not wander into traffic, ride a bike, play basketball, play football... it's like a University of savants that can't do anything practice medicine.
You just used the phrase "lived experience".
Please tell me that's a typo and not malice aforethought. Please.
I reached out to Kipnis to learn more about the complaints against her; she declined comment for unspecified reasons...
Maybe she found out you won't start your articles with the n-word.
She likely still considers herself a member of the progressive clan and hence viscerally hates libertarianism and anything associated with it.
Give her some time... Progressives will never take her back, she just needs to come to terms with that.
More likely she'll just issue a sycophantic apology with the hope that they'll readmit her to the clan at least on a probationary basis. But her students will not be so forgiving; they've been well taught never to actually accept apologies, as it limits your ability to milk the guilt of offender.
Northwestern liberal arts professors deserve this, it is their own creation.
I went to the engineering school there in the 90s, and the one or two liberal arts classes I was forced to take were taught by the most insufferable liberal hacks I've ever come across in my life. Debate consisted of agreeing with the most far left agenda, any disagreement resulted in lower grades. One class still sticks out in my mind as being so absurd it could practically be a South Park episode and you'd say there is no way that could be real.
This is the environment they have fostered for decades, let the ship eat itself.
"let the ship eat itself."
A bird in hand is not worth beating about the bush
That sounds painful!
Why the hell should we want her? I'd much rather she just kill herself and maybe take thirty or forty of her leftist friends with her.
Fun is fun, but this is a bit too much.
Prepare to be shocked: professors actually represent a wide range of ethical and political viewpoints, and are not the Progressive Antichrist Army the partisan talking points make them out to be. Shocking, I know!
I know you didn't write the headline Robby, but you should slap whoever did.
This is the next front, after alt-text.

I appreciate the satire. That click-bait style headline is exactly the kind of garbage that tumblrina micro-aggression triggering feminist shitlords write.
It's not really satire, Robby is one of the kids that grew up on this stuff. It's all he knows.
It's a shame that there is all this anti-millennial sentiment in Reason's comment..punditership? Its the anti "new generation" mentality that keeps biting the GOP in the dick and it's obvious that many in the "free minds, free markets" movement are perfectly happy to fizzle out too then to embrace the dirty millennials.
Just think about it.
A millennial reads an article like this and says "Ah, these guys have a point". Then they read the comments and see, "7 Ways Modern Headlines Make You Want To Violently Skull-Fuck The Nearest Millenial".
They'll probably think "Fuck these old bastards, I'm voting for Hillary".
You all are basically campaigning for Hillary.
Like I said, think about it.
"You all are basically campaigning for Hillary.
Like I said, think about it."
MIND. BLOWN.
Nah, he's just a mouthy little twat like the pussies at Northwestern...I'm aquainted with a lot of millenials and they would laugh them and ian right out of the room.
"he's just a mouthy little twat like the pussies"
MIND. BLOWN.
Laugh potential supporters out of the room. "Winning Elections for Dummies" by Migrant Log Picker.
Look, do we really want the support of anyone, millennial or otherwise, that can't see how obnoxious the Gawker/Buzzfeed style is?
But dude, *think about it*
Do you want to preserve the membership standards for or little club, or do you want a shot at actually affecting policy?
Serious question - I generally prefer to limit my associations to non-idiots and you guys, and to let the marketplace of ideas take care of itself. As long as the first amendment holds, I think that's a reasonable strategy.
Yes, If you goal is to win.
By win, I mean make your ideas palpable to as many people as possible. You're going to need support, even from people you think are dumb.
Would it upset you to learn that progressives already have the idiot-vote sewed up?
Ah, I'm more of an optimist on this topic.
"an optimist"
That's what you call it.? lol
Take police brutality.
I'm not going to call them dumb, I'll call them "floaters", because they float around in the world with muddled ideology.
We get mad about it, progressives get mad about it, and they get mad about it.
Instead of saying these floaters aren't worth our time, we should be there competing with the progressives as much as we can. We have alternatives to big government, and achieving support from floaters can and does work when we at least try.
We need to be Little Engines not Eeyores.
Where you lose the plot, mon frere, is assuming that we don't do that already by appealing to people with cogent arguments about why issues like "police brutality" are actually the consequence of *too many laws* and *too much government spending*. That these problems exist because of the Progressive instinct to try and "solve everything" with Government Force.
i.e. libertarianism already appeals to "floaters" (people not already aligned with any particular political ideology) using this often neglected-aspect of the human brain called "Reason"*
(hence the name of the mag?)
What you seem to be saying is,
"We Need to Appeal to Idiots The Progressive Way = by being stupidly emotional, hysterical, appealing to pathos. By trying to create a big sob about 'victims' and pat ourselves on the back about how we're such superior people because *we just care so hard*
If that's what you're saying, well.... you're wrong.
You can "think about it" if you want.
I think you'll find that most people aren't aligned with any particular ideology. Most people don't know a god-damned thing about civics, economics, and public policy let alone ideology. They just hear on the news- Republicans bad, Democrats good, ok! They don't care about logos. Is it bad, maybe? But it's the truth.
I'm not saying we should be progressives. I'm just saying we should be encouraging people to adopt our ideology rather than saying entire demographics suck and shouldn't.
Do you want freedom, or do you want to pout in the corner while this kind of shit takes over policy in America? Those college folks are going to graduate and spread there dumb ass garbage. Meanwhile we're over here trying to look too tough to care.
I care about my neighbor so much I'm willing to give them the most respect I could possibly give someone by believing that we all should be masters of our own lives. Possibly encouraging them to do believe same. Maybe even telling them they are victims of an out-of-control government? Damn, I must be some liberal ass pansy, for caring right?
So fine I'm wong, the official unofficial stance or the Reason crowd is that millennials suck and can never be libertarian enough.
Fuck you Robby Soave
yo gabba gabba
*their
I have no idea what you said other than you're still upset someone said "Millenials are silly", or something thereabouts.
Your problem shouldn't be with the fact that people say this.
Your problem should be with the fact that they are
Now, wait a minute. I've seen a fair amount of anti-baby boomers sentiment on threads here.
Like the post above about college profs being a diverse group despite the media pigeon holing, so are the members of any generational cohort.
IMHO, most humans defy rigid categorization, even if I am the one doing the categorizing. ;-0
Yeah right, because if there's one thing the comments section of Reason isn't, it's "stupidly emotional"
If simply seeing the word "Millenial" being....disrespected?...triggers an actual Millenial to disagree violently with something they otherwise would agree with, do we really want them around?
Besides which, how many Millenials go around reading articles hyper-aware of the media's nomenclature for their cohort, and hyper-aware of their belonging to said group such that any slight is grounds for completely losing their shit?
ant1sthenes said it in many fewer words.
It's not the sight of the word that I fear would turn them away. It is the appearance that this "culture" so to speak is unfriendly to them.
It sounds like some pansy liberal shit, but in my mind it makes sense. Especially if you want more and more supporters.
Social acceptance is like what? On the third level of Maslow's hierarchy of needs? Why would anyone want to be a part of something that is seemingly hostile to them?
Not saying there should be rules or force applied.
I was just pointing out in a tounge-and-cheek way that it might not be so hot of an idea to harbor too much resentment to the people that are going to be running stuff in the future.
Hey, I like millennials.
I am Not responsible for the inability of others to think
Get a life, fuckface. Clickbait is a long standing internet reporting problem. Don't be so fucking sensitive you special flower dickfuck.
"...that keeps biting the GOP in the dick"

Title IX has become the Commerce Clause of American academia.
It's becoming the Jim Crow for gender in academia.
Jim Crow is more accurate. Turning men into second class citizens one campus at a time.
I bet that they'll start making male-types use separate restrooms, even
Unless they dress like or claim to be female.
You say this as if protecting a the most vulnerable and underprivileged segment of society from men is a bad thing. What is wrong with you you hate fill monster?
There is a terrible irony that laws and policies created to prevent gender discrimination can treat members of one gender differently and unfairly.
Irony? No, I don't think that's it. It's another "i" word, though....ah, I've got it. Intent.
You know who else treated people differently and unfairly?

she copy + pasted a porn link by mistake.
Oh, it was an accident! She was browsing porn and didn't notice that she copy/pasted that page instead of another one? And she is a college "professor"?
While I doubt anyone was harmed by this, I just can't get my head around how you could do something so stupid. Considering how nearly every person on this site probably watches porn, has any one here ever "accidentally" e-mailed porn links? I have never made such a mistake.
Especially given that when you copy and past a link it shows up as a URL.
I'm not entirely sure how she mistook xhamster.com/analbeads for lawbriefs.org.
I think it was pornhub.com.
Though, if it was Xhamster, she could claim that something from that website had sent out the email/overwritten the link she pasted. Xhamster has been known to host ads that inject malware onto the...umm...visitor's computer.
This article explains how it could have happened:
Romanorgy.com
Oops...
Well, maybe she was a classics professor? Hence the confusion.
I'd actually have to giver her credit for dedication to the field if she was watching porn so topical to that field (though not sure if I'd trust a doctor who's into 'medical porn') that she mixed up the links.
I've heard of things like this happening, but it was spoofing, not the actual person sending the email.
But honestly, who among us hasn't inadvertently pasted the link to porn we were watching into a work email? I do it two or five times a day, and like I always tell HR, I must stress the purely accidental nature of my mistake.
The stupid thing with email that I've seen happen at work is when people 'accidentally' CC when replying to an email.
I remember when I was working for one small company many years ago, the entire IT dept was 4 people. So I was sitting at my desk when a rather portly manager bursts through our door, red faced and panting and blurts out 'Is there anyway that you can stop an email that I just sent?!'
I just looked at him and said 'Most likely no'. This resulted in his face getting ever redder. Apparently, he'd just replied to like 20 people with a flaming rant about the VP of the company. Oops!
I did something similar in high school (boarding school). I meant to send some collection of absolutely filthy jokes to a couple of my friends. One of their email addresses was just one letter off from the blast email that goes to everyone in the school. The headmaster was not amused.
Also, in true RBS fashion this occurred during football season so I got out of most of my punishment because we had an away game the following Saturday.
Hilarious. Email shenanigans are one of the few non-political bits of schadenfreude I really enjoy.
This is why I hate athletes.
Oh you kids and your emails! When I was in school, if we wanted to reach that many fellow students, we had to slip s fake into the day's announcements.
My boss's boss just did this.
Spammed a password to the entire company. (The ridiculous way IT is done at my company raises my blood pressure by about 60 mmHG once or twice a month)
Wait, you guys email your passwords?
Might as well scribble them on the bathroom wall.
That's usually using the "reply to all" icon.
In all fairness, they two are rather close together in most mail client programs.
I haven't done it that I can remember. But, I know I've come close.
My sister lost her job by hitting "reply to all" once where she commented on her boss' absence in no uncertain terms.
It's called 'bate 'n mail. You have to send emails while 'batin to get off. Sometimes links get muddled.
If we're really to get to the bottom of what's happening today on college campuses, we need to start with editing the following paragraph and go from there:
Students marched in protest and started a petition demanding that the administration condemn the professor's "toxic ideas? because they have no place here.

College is no place for ideas!
It continually amazes me that today's feminists--mewling hysterics who spend every waking minute in utter terror of the dreaded penis--actually expect me to show them respect.
They are your betters. They expect your respect the same way noble lords expected respect from their serfs, or slave owner expected respect from their slaves. They don't expect true respect, just deference when you are in their presence.
It's not "today's feminists" it is feminists. They've always been mewling hysterics.
The burning scepter of socialized and merciless morality will find the fucking witches in the colleges and martyr them on flames of outrage. Heretics be warned. The medieval is back, bitches, and our mobs are here to flash-boil you inept rejects of truth into submission. Fear us: the center of the universe is Progressivism and its reality is brilliant and unalterable and fucking Thug.
As a medievalist, I'd like to observe that folks back then would at least generally let you go if you recanted. I see little evidence of that these days -- it's recantation and then the auto da fe anyway.
Thank you.
Carry on.

... And Why Using It Hurts Everyone
Isn't rape a violation of a person's liberty? Have men not been raped by priests who were their teachers? Would it be wrong to care about that, too?
It's so hard to disentagle the hatred for women in these comments and this post from the reality of who gets protected by policies against rape.
This post is misrepresenting the content of Laura Kipnis's article.
The professor Kipnis takes up for has been accused of not just molesting an undergraduate he bought drinks for but also raping a graduate student. What hysteria, to care about these things. Where do people work where this type of behavior is accepted?
Whoever at Reason who has such deep seated issues to be using this kind of stupid "from afar" diagnosis of campus life to represent libertarian views is going to lose the support of any decent person.
Can a series of rhetorical questions replace actual dialogue?
Can we replace reasoned argument with moral denunciations?
Whomever engages in those sorts of practices is obviously intellectually dishonest. Should people take this sort of thing seriously?
Who teaches people to behave in this manner, and is this something as a society we should accept?
This comment raises crucial issues which need to be addressed.
Can a series of rhetorical questions replace actual dialogue?
Andrew Napolitano says YES!
Pish. The Nap doesn't use declaratory or exclamatory sentences. He would, instead reply:
"Why not?"
"Isn't rape a violation of a person's liberty?"
Why, golly, JB. You've really enlightened me.
But, wait. Aren't you sure?
Oh, I'm enlightened. On the other hand, ruining innocent men's lives over a frivolous accusation of sexual misconduct, or sending them to prison for something they didn't do, isn't a violation of their liberty; it's just a learning experience!
Shorter JenniferBaker: "Any words I find in disagreement with myworld view must be censored, and the writer punished." How's that Brownshirt fit, Jenny?
I doubt Jenny has a clue what you are talking about.
But she knows it is sexist, racist, and rapist punching down. And probably has an excessive carbon footprint.
"Isn't rape a violation of a person's liberty? Have men not been raped by priests who were their teachers? Would it be wrong to care about that, too?"
You honestly think that anti-rape policies will be employed to help male victims? That's rich, Jen. These policies were all clearly crafted for women against men. To pretend that's not the case is to be living under a rock in another solar system.
Also, do you have any, like, evidence, of these rape accusations. You know, evidence? I know, I'm a rape apologist for not just taking your word for it; evidence is misogynist, right?
Go back to ranting about how much you hate men and how you abuse your boyfriend with impunity at Jezebel.
It's so hard to disentagle the hatred for women in this comment and this post from the reality of who gets protected by policies against rape. Why do you support rape?
I support rape because prisoners need love too.
"The professor Kipnis takes up for has been accused of not just molesting an undergraduate he bought drinks for but also raping a graduate student. What hysteria, to care about these things. Where do people work where this type of behavior is accepted?"
I was unaware accusations are the same thing as proven facts. Come back to me when you have some sort of conviction rather than unsubstantiated accusations.
Isn't assuming guilt without evidence a violation of a person's liberty? Have women not been unfairly found guilty due to moral hysteria? Would it be wrong to care about that too?
Do you see what's dumb about your post now? I'm glad I could help you grow as a person.
Viscount Irish, Slayer of Huns said @11:43:43:
Not a conviction, but simply facts.. Miscarriages of justice happen both ways, so neither a conviction nor lack of a conviction proves anything by itself.
A lack of conviction proves that the person has not been convicted.
In this country, the US of A, one is supposed to be considered innocent unless proven guilty.
Although in reality they are innocent until proven broke.

Yes.
BOYS are more likely to be raped a teacher than a priest. MEN are more likely to be raped while in the custody of the state.
Oh, this is going to be good.
Cite?
I believe the States already have a "policy" against rape. We typically refer to them as criminal statutes.
Sure thing. And what proof do you have that "the professor Kipnis takes up for" did either of these things?
To care about what things? Or are we back in Salem, Massachusetts circa 1650 where an accusation and falling on the ground was sufficient proof of "witchery"?
So, in the absence of proof, you've gone from the professor being ACCUSED of something to the professor actually having done them AND that the university accepts it being done. Crackerjack work.
Whoever made this comment who has such deep seated issues to be using this kind of stupid "from afar" diagnosis of rights of the accused to represent progressive feminist views is going to lose the support of any rational person.
Well since nothing that has been posted can be considered hate by any stretch, I have taken it upon myself to help you out.
Fellow He-Man-Woman-Haters repeat after me:
I... (state your name)... Member in good standing of the He-Man Woman Haters Club... Do solemnly swear to be a he-man and hate women and not play with them or talk to them unless I have to. And especially: never fall in love, and if I do may I die slowly and painfully and suffer for hours - or until I scream bloody murder.
I find the rantings of feminist SJWs indistinguishable from the rantings of evangelistic religious fanatics.
When you say "rape", do you mean real rape like wot happens when Boko Haram or Roman Polanski rolls into town, or bullshit PC campus rape, like "it involved a penis" or "I verbally consented, but I was mentally crossing my fingers" or "it involved like twenty imaginary fraternity brothers"?
Isn't rape an actual crime?
Have charges been filed with the actual police?
Do you care about the rights of the accused?
Is it so hard to separate the distaste for criminal behavior from the desire to violate someone right to a fair trial?
Is so difficult to be JenniferBaker and still be able to have principles rather than just emotions?
How did it become acceptable to convict and punish people without the use of the criminal justice system?
Is it possible to have any intelligent exchange of views with JenniferBaker or her ilk where they do not resort to claiming those who disagree with them hate women?
If all women were as stupid as JenniferBaker would that actually make us all hate women?
Wow, now I see why the Judge and JenniferBaker write in this style. Is is so much easier than assembling complete arguments and presenting them in a logical fashion!
"It's so hard to disentagle the hatred for women ....."
Hatred for women ?
Who here has ever said they hate women ? No one I am aware of. I love women and and married to one I love more than all the rest.
It's bitches like you, who make hate filled statements like that, that we detest.
This post is misrepresenting the content of Laura Kipnis's article.
How so?
The professor Kipnis takes up for has been accused of . . .
The operative words being "accused of." Has he been tried and sentenced?
"has been accused of not just molesting an undergraduate"
Guilty. Guilty.
Hang 'em!
"As a white, female, upper middle class, bisexual person who engages in alternative sexual practices I approve of this article."*
(*I have bookmarked this as the "perfect, default comment" to add to any article about "millenial social justice" issues)
I would gladly vote for an ordinance that states that any person who engages in identity politics or feels they must identify their class, gender, and race to discuss an issue be sentenced to execution by being tied to 4 horses and ripped apart.
As someone who cares about the feelings of Horses, I think this is a terrible idea, and can not endorse it.
You presume that horses don't have more hatred for such people than I do and would not gladly volunteer for such a noble cause
I think I can safely say, as a fluid-identity black, lower-class disabled lesbian woman*, that I agree with this comment.
*Insofar as race, class. gender, sexual orientation, and level of ability are all socially constructed identities which could change at any moment, such as for the span of a post.
I'm increasingly committed that when I'm done with grad school I'll just go straight into industry. Why would I want to do research in an environment where every barroom conversation I participate in is evidence against me in the show trial following my denunciation? Being a university faculty member has to be the closest thing to life in East Germany that we have today.
This is why I hate the concept of 'leftist intelligentsia.' Academia is leftist like a chain-smoker's lungs are cancerous. The cancer is hardly right to be proud of having the lungs for itself considering that it has rendered them completely nonfunctional. So yes, I am saying that leftists (modern ones at least) are a cancer that has consumed academia, and metastasized to other organs too.
And I think think one anecdote justifying the distinction of 'modern ones' was a story I think Goerge Lukianoff told. He had a Marxist professor for a class and on one of the exams, the students, knowing his views basically regurgitated Marxist thought to kiss his ass and get the A. He actually was so disturbed by this that for his final exam he made the students read and defend passage from Hayek's 'Road to Serfdom.'
I don't know if profs like that exist anymore, none in my experience. Humanities/social sciences classes are nothing more than lessons in intellectual fellatio. I don't think I've ever seen a professor (outside of STEM fields that is) actually try to foster debate between opposing viewpoints in a class.
As to your last point, many of the adjuncts you'll find at a community college are still good about that. It's the tenure that burns out that ability/desire would be my guess.
This is one reason why I switched. I was getting ready to start my senior year at my university but I have transferred to a small community college to study a trade. It has been my experience that community college professors are superior to their university counterparts.
They just teach the shit, say what they have to say, and then leave it at that. No attempted brainwashing, no shutting down discussion, none of that shit.
As I have stated though, this has just been my experiences after attending both a CC and a university prior to me going back to CC.
Plus CC's are way fucking cheaper and you can make just as much if not more money in the trades than with 90% of the worthless degrees they hand out at universities.
So you blew three years of time and money only to basically repeat two of them to "learn a trade?"
That's just fucking stupid. No offense.
Disagree!
It was smart.
Smart people recognize their mistakes and take corrective action as the O.P. did. We recognized their savvy by the fact that they can admit to their mistake and share how they overcame it.
It's so hard to disentagle the hatred for women in these comments and this post from the reality of who gets protected by policies against rape.
I'm sure it is.
Whoever at Reason who has such deep seated issues to be using this kind of stupid "from afar" diagnosis of campus life to represent libertarian views is going to lose the support of any decent person.
"No dissent, please. We're students."
This is fucking stupid, Soave. There is a big difference between writing an essay about how ridiculous the rape culture bullshit is and mass-emailing a porn link.
Yeah! 'Cause one of those things is awesome!
agreed.
Is there a way for a college or university to be exempt from the provisions of Title IX, like Hillsdale College w/r/t affirmative action? Publicizing a list of such colleges might help to combat the intolerance of a once-tolerant sector of our society.
I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I've been doing,

"There is a terrible irony that laws and policies created to prevent gender discrimination can treat members of one gender differently and unfairly."
Irony? There's no irony. The Progressive Theocracy screws men *by design*, recognizing them as statistically relatively opposed to their agenda, and using their disempowerment to sell privilege to women. It's a win-win.
No irony. Penis envy results leads to forced castration at some point.
This all-to-common example is proof that Western culture is in serious decline.
The more liberal a community is, the less free individuals are to dissent in any way from liberal orthodoxy. So it's no surprise that academia is as unfree as a communist bureaucracy.
How long before a college has a mandatory class where you have to spend an hour with your blankie and stuffed animal curled on the floor sucking your thumb?
"class"? That's a Major
A Major Major.
There was a Spanish TA in UCSD who got really angry that I tried to double check the format of the essay (had to be 12 font, double spaced, yada yada). She called me out in an angry reply, and then I wrote back that I didn't mean any disrespect, and then she accused me of "insulting her intelligence."
In another Spanish class, the very left wing TA got upset that I always sat in front. She was also bothered that I sometimes fumbled around the pile of stacked essays when I tried to place the essay. I only did that to make sure I placed it on the right pile. She even asked me if I had a "condition". Eventually, I was called up to the head of the Spanish department who told me my behavior was "counter productive"
You'd be surprised at the sort "meta societies" that are allowed to exist in college campuses. There's a lot of bitter, angry people who detest the establishment of all kinds. The Co opt bookstore wouldn't take credit cards and refused to expand, but the profs made us buy books there. So I would have to wait 20-30 minutes outside a commie bookstore the size of a liquor store, because they could only take in so many people.
No one likes Upworthy or Buzzfeed-style headlines, Robby.
Shit, I wrote this too soon before seeing the comments. Damn it! I will have an original post someday!
The important thing is that your first instinct was correct.
Not that I would have given a rat's ass but I was in college at age 17 and had a professor e-mailed me a porn link that might have broken some "providing sexual materials to a minor" law.
Allan Bloom published The Closing of the American Mind in 1987, twenty-eight years ago. He made observations about changes in American campus life that dated to about 1965, so we have fifty years of experience now with the effects of political correctness, from its infancy in the 1960s, to its maturity in the twenty-first century. What we're seeing now has had a long time to take hold. Students, faculty, and administrators all have a share in it.
The subtitle of Bloom's book is How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students. Someone might have told him, as he wrote the book, "You think it's bad now, wait till you see what it's going to be like thirty years from now!"
Think about the real meaning of the phrase, political correctness. In practice it means, "Think the way we do, or get out. If you do not agree with us, we do not want to associate with you." How in the world did agreement on political and social issues become a criterion for association? Bloom posed a question, "do we want to train students who feel comfortable sitting down with the greatest philosophers who ever lived, or do we want to prepare students for membership in a narrow tribe of people see themselves as true believers?" We can go one way or the other. Bloom cast no doubt about the direction he thought America was headed.

Sounds like unions and closed shop contracts to me.
Google pay 97$ per hour my last pay check was $8500 working 1o hours a week online. My younger brother friend has been averaging 12k for months now and he works about 22 hours a week. I cant believe how easy it was once I tried it out.
This is wha- I do...... ?????? http://www.netjob80.com

Liberal/progressive prof hoisted on the liberal/progressive petard, oh the irony. There is something delicious about progressives eating their own.

The Universities are strangling themselves with rules and costs. Death will follow.
Wait... Northwestern?! I almost went there! Whew!
And I thought that kind of liberal censorship was only prevalent at Michigan!
We're doomed.
