Waze is a real-time, crowd-sourced map that not only tells you about traffic jams and finds the cheapest nearby gas station for you but also warns you of speed traps, police checkpoints, and ticket cams. Get this: The info is so good that the National Sheriffs Association is pressuring app stores to shut Waze down. 

Open WhisperSystem's Red Phone and Text Secure provide easy end-to-end encryption for phone calls, text messages, and chats. If you're on Apple iOS, check out Signal. 

Meerkat and Periscope allow you to livestream everything from your kids' soccer games to police stops directly to Twitter. The only thing blocking these apps is that they're only available on Apple's iOS for now.

So yesterday I pointed out that Garry Trudeau apparently made some shitty, horrible remarks about Charlie Hebdo and Bo got angry at me for not waiting for all the remarks to be released for 'context.' Well here's the fucking context.

By punching downward, by attacking a powerless, disenfranchised minority with crude, vulgar drawings closer to graffiti than cartoons, Charlie wandered into the realm of hate speech, which in France is only illegal if it directly incites violence. Well, voila?the 7 million copies that were published following the killings did exactly that, triggering violent protests across the Muslim world, including one in Niger, in which ten people died. Meanwhile, the French government kept busy rounding up and arresting over 100 Muslims who had foolishly used their freedom of speech to express their support of the attacks.

In other words, Charlie Hebdo should be made illegal by the French state because criticism of Islam resulted in Muslims killing people. So if you criticize someone and they respond by committing murders, you've 'incited violence' and ought to be punished by the state.

His point about the Muslims being punished for supporting the attacks is a good one, but so far as I'm concerned these comments make Trudeau look like an even bigger shithead than I'd assumed.

In Garry's case this is absolutely racism because his claims about Islam are based on the fact that they're brown people. If someone insulted, say, Anglicans and the Anglicans proceeded to kill people, Trudeau would never make this argument because they're predominantly white.

Trudeau doesn't care about their religious beliefs (since he has no compunctions about 'punching down' in order to insult lower income Christian denominations), but cares only about the fact that they are brown people and therefore entirely not at fault for their own actions. They're just vacant, agencyless ciphers who react to the actions of the white man rather than having any control over their own actions.

"(Reuters) - A man shot himself dead in front of the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, police said, sparking a temporary security lockdown at the complex on one of the busiest days for tourists in Washington.

The man, who was wearing a backpack and had carried a rolling suitcase and a sign to the site, fired a single shot at himself, Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine told reporters.

Dine said the man's sign had a "social justice" message but he did not immediately provide more details...
