Oklahoma U. Expels Racist Students, But Not Violent Football Players
Do feelings matter more than actual violence?

University of Oklahoma President David Boren expelled two students for racist chanting, ostensibly because the school has an unofficial zero tolerance policy on racism. But Boren had plenty of tolerance for OU football players who committed violence against women and were allowed, not merely to remain at the university, but also to rejoin the football team.
The Daily Caller News Foundation's Blake Neff notes that last year, freshman Joe Mixon was caught on tape punching a female student in the face. He knocked her unconscious and broke four of her facial bones. He was later convicted of a misdemeanor assault charge.
What did the university do? According to Neff:
Despite his conviction, Mixon faced a comparatively light punishment compared to the massive crackdown on the Sigma Alpha Epsilon students. He was suspended from the team for the season, but faced no other repercussions, remaining on campus and continuing to attend classes like any other student.
In February, Mixon was allowed to rejoin the football team.
Boren, at the time, said that while Mixon's behavior was abhorrent, it was important to grant second chances.
I also believe in second chances, although it's easier for me to grant them to people who merely said insensitive things than it is for me to grant them to perpetrators of violence against women. Boren, it seems, feels differently.
Or perhaps star running back Mixon was more deserving of forgiveness because he was a critical part of OU's football program?
OU also sent a letter of acceptance to Dorial Green-Beckham, a University of Missouri football player who was kicked off the team after being arrested for drug use, alleged breaking and entering, alleged threatening, and alleged violence against women, according to Neff.
I do not mean to suggest that these students should have been expelled or never accepted; I've not carefully reviewed their cases. Perhaps their punishments fit their crimes, and perhaps they truly deserved second chances. But if anybody was going to be railroaded off campus without so much as a hearing, you would think it might be perpetrators of actual violence, rather than perpetrators of offensive speech (which is not actually a category of crime).
It's hard not see this as another example of the backward priorities of many universities, where the security of students' feelings is taken more seriously than their actual, physical security.

He knocked her unconscious and broke four of her facial bones.
I wonder how many police departments have offered him a job.
He'd have to go through some training before they put him on the street so he'd know how to properly shoot her 37 times or at the very least beat her into a coma. They don't want cops who half-ass their jobs.
He'd have to go through some training before they put him on the street so he'd know how to properly shoot at her 37 times, hit her once, or at the very least and follow up with beating her into a coma.
That's how I'd phrase it.
Then handcuff her.
You gotta keep yelling "STOP RESISTING" when you're dealing out the beatdown.
As is typical of colleges and universities today, even though these kids broke no laws, they were not given an opportunity to defend themselves and their constitutional rights were violated not because they were being racist, but because they are white.
Stormfront misses you, Please go back
To be fair, do you honestly think if a bunch of of black fraternity members were caught on tape chanting about lynching whitie they would be expelled? These dipshits were not just expelled for being racist, they were expelled for being white racists.
That is actually a fair point.
Uh oh, this is going to ruin Bo's narrative...
According to most lefitst thought on the subject of racism, only whites are capable of being racist.
I think the word you want there is "dogma", not "thought".
-jcr
Yes, because "blacks don't have the power to effect racism," which is institutional. Translation: I have the system on my side, whereas, say, Barack Obama, does not.
This actually makes sense in their minds.
It's a good point but the prog rulebook says that only whites can be racists. And the tone of the comment I responded to was in no way as reasonable as yours.
Expel a football player? At OU? Are you nuts?
Yeah, that's crazy talk.
Do you fuckers want to watch Switzer fucking die crying?
Cause that is what is going to happen if you start expelling OU football players. Shit Barry nearly lost it when they got rid of the old lady. Imagine what would happen if they expelled a star player.
Maybe if he were a 3rd or 4th string bench warmer, but a star player? they can pretty much get away with murder.
This just proves that women are more oppressed than black people. /SJW
Nice.

I would like to think that all the attention this case is getting would also shine a light on the corruption of college sports - oh who am I kidding.
I suggest that Soave be outfitted with a coronet to be used to signal the charge of the Offended White Guy Brigade.
Does he have a college degree?
And libertarian bona fides?
He's bona fide!

Well played.
Ruthless. Love it.
The bugler is usually an enlisted man, so he doesn't need a college degree.
He just needs to sound off with that coronet when Col. RC tells him to sound the charge into the Valley of the Progs.

Oh, what sad times are these when passing commenters can call a man "Bo" at will to old posters. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
Nice.
Calling a man "Bo" creates a hostile learning environment. It should get you summarily expelled from the University of Oklahoma.

Irish and Jimbo did a much nicer job than my lazy effort. Kudos, gentlemen.
The Offended White Guy Brigade has the famous distinction of being the only brigade present in both Opium Wars, the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and every Anglo-Zulu war.
Don't forget the Occupation of West Florida.
That would make Flashman a member of the OWGB.
Which is . . . perfect.
Horribly OT but amusing:
John Kerry says: "The science that shows the Climate is getting warmer is as settled as gravity."
The difference is that I can predict how fast the apple will hit the ground if dropped from distance X, or how many BTUs it takes to cool a volume of water to 32?F. I can't, however, determine what the temperature will be in 5 years with an additional X amount of CO2 added to the atmosphere.
Plus, we don't even know how gravity works either.
Plus, we don't even know how gravity works either.
We don't know it twice. Which is twice as bad.
Squirrels know how it works
And sometimes the submit tab is confusing.
I accidentally double clicked!
I've had double post happen just clicking once. No rhyme or Reason.
SCIENCE HATH SPOKEN
Going back to the Scott Walker evolution question, that a politician/person merely states the "correct" position doesn't mean they know why it is correct or how science works.
He might be right if he's talking about quantum gravity.
So all you need to do now to win an argument is to evoke the science gods. You aren't anti-science, are you?
John made a good point the other day on a different topic that cargo culting has taken over the mainstream. It doesn't matter what you actually know or whether it actually works, it only matters that you follow the rituals and perform the incantations properly.
"...by what right do people stand up and just say, 'well, I dispute that,..."
You hear that? You have no right to point out the difference between accepted scientific positions for which the evidence can easily be replicated and those that even its proponents cannot verify. No right to separate theories that make verifiable, accurate predictions and those that are able to make none at all.
No. Right.
This from a guy who lives right down the road from this;
http://rt.com/usa/239497-icebe.....-cape-cod/
in this, a post-snow era.
If ever there was a more transparent scam I don't know what it could be. Yes, I know, I have no right to even say that.
No. Right.
Kerry has basically taken the position that experiment, observation, and predictive value are no longer required, because SCIENCE! And about half the population actually thinks this makes sense. We are well and truly doomed.
Your rights are whatever John Kerry tells you your rights are, you science denying neanderthal! /prog-derp
"Science also tells us that when the water temperature drops below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, it turns to ice. No one disputes that,"
Umm, actually you can dispute that: it depends on if you're talking about pure water or water with salt or other mineral impurities in it, which can alter the freezing point. /pedant
Also, it depends on the air pressure above it.
The right of free expression. The right to dissent. The right to criticize. The obligation to improve science by mounting a challenge to the hypothesis.
And yes, it is a hypothesis, not a theory. I'll even give that it may be a working hypothesis, but it certainly has not been fruitful. But you don't even know what that is or the differences between them, do you Mr. Heinz?
...that's not even what the theory of gravity says.
Gravity EXPLAINS why things always fall by claiming that all masses are attracted to each other, with the force being proportional to both masses and inversely proportional the their distance-squared. The theory was invented to explain astronomical observations as well as the basic earthly phenomena, and was confirmed with gigantic lead weight balls, and has always been confirmed as such as long as the experiment's been tried.
So A) John Kerry doesn't even understand philosophically how science works and B) the thing he was talking about has way, way, way more verification than anything climate science does.
Both facets of this pwn him
John Kerry knows a lot about gravity. Just look at his face.
Oh. And Jjjjenjis khan.
They expel two white students, but look the other way for black student guilty of a violent act. Should we be talking about this?
I really don't think we're supposed to be talking about this.
No because it would be racist.
So, wanna go to the Gap?
Because the 2 racists white guys aren't star athletes of the football team. It has nothing to with the race of either party. It has to do with the dollars going to the machine that is college football. If the athlete had been white he would have received the same treatment. And only whites can be racist according to the prog rulebook
Yes, much like how police brutality is not a racial problem, in this too race is almost certainly incidental.
But the central fact remains: how is it that utterance of crimethink in a private setting that is surruptitiously recorded and distributed well outside its intended audience is somehow a greater crime than actually fucking brutalizing and breaking bones?
Yes, follow the money, yada yada yada. But that doesn't make the university's claims of moral high ground any less transparently false.
The "homers" around OU football will forgive anything done by a star athlete and will forgive any action taken by those that protect star athletes. They don't care about anything but winning and winning generates millions of dollars for OU.
Of course. Just saying, the "optics" make this awkward and darkly funny.
It's very easy to twist this as Robby first defending racists (White Guy Brigade!), and then complaining that a black student was not punished harshly enough, complete with the word "violent" next to a picture of a young black man.
He's simply trying to utilize his power to usurp both John and I who are presently duking it out to be the captain of the OWGB.
We already have a colonel. Not having a military background I must ask the order of rank between captain and colonel. I need to know whose ass to kiss.
Navy Captain == Army Colonel (both O-6)
Pucker up
Considering that this is the Offended White Guy Brigade, the captains can shove off.
Lieutenant Colonel (ha!)
Major
Captain
Gentlemen, please.
We just need to increase our number to 10,000 OWGs, and there will be colonelcies available for a modest fee. Checks payable to Major General Dean, of course.
Um, soooo....Chief of Staff/XO position open? I was a really good BDE XO.
If the athlete had been white he would have received the same treatment.
Likewise if either of the two expelled students had been a star football player the president of OU would be "bravely standing up for their 1A rights and due process" while waiting the furor to die down so that the team can quietly re-instate them.
Thousand times this ^^^
Bullshit.
One student athlete means nothing. This is about 95 full scholly student athletes, of which upwards of 60% will be black. I don't care if it was a star white athlete, he would be getting the same treatment these kids are because he's there for four years tops at one position and if he remained after this he'd adversely effect their ability to recruit the other 94 players around him and well past his departure from the campus.
When it comes to OU its not bullshit. OU has protected rapists, child molesters, thugs of all colors and anything else that contributes to the machine. I wish I could find the article but there was a student athlete that had some really questionable things to say about race relations a few years ago. He was suspended and attended racial diversity training and then back on the team he went. I grew up around that mess. I worked around that mess. Hell, my mom had classes with Brian Bosworth. I remember getting drenched sitting in the endzone watching Switzers wishbone roll up "half a hundred" on people. There is no amount of hipocracy that OU will not commit to protect a star football player. And most of the black athletes will quietly go along if that player happens to be the quarterback that gets them on national TV and a bigger NFL contract in 4 years.
I haven't heard any more about investigating the fraternity as a whole for discrimination.
I wonder why that is?
Because its already dead, that's why. That chapter doesn't exist anymore. Its house has been cleared out. Its gone, and not just pining for the fjords, either.
Who needs an investigation when banishment and disillusion can be accomplished by executive order?
Boren is an utter coward here. It is always fun to see cowardly public officials hoisted on their own bullshit. I want to see Boren crucified on the cross of violence against women here.
Why does David Boren not care about women or think violence against them not a serious issue?
I want to see Boren crucified on the cross of violence against women here.
FIFY because I'd rather not see the continual identity group Balkanization which somehow postulates that fracturing facial bones of a woman is somehow a more egregious crime than fracturing an equal number of facial bones of a man, even if there is some delicious irony in it.
Violence is violence, no matter the reason or the target. The only thing that differentiates one violence from another is the degree of violence employed. Speech is speech. It is not violence and in this case the OU SAE chant wasn't even designed to incite violence. Though it may well incite violence, I guaran-damn-tee that it will be only reported on the HBD/"race-realist"/Stormfront reaches of the internet because it will be retributory violence targeted at the very boys who were filmed for 11 seconds jokingly singing an uncouth song.
I think you misinterpret John here. He just wants some good old-fashioned schadenfreude while watching them eat each other..
I understand and agree. I am just too cynical to believe the right thing as you describe will happen. So, I have adjusted my expectations downward.
Get over it. Race trumps sex. Didn't you learn anything from the O.J. trial?
"Horrific deplorable violence is OK as long as no one says any naughty words."
-Kyle's Mom
Boren, at the time, said that while Mixon's behavior was abhorrent, it was important to grant second chances.
For SAE.
It depends upon the time of year he punched her-maybe there was a school shooting that day so everyone else was involved with anti gun rhetoric and he lucked out and got off easy. Unfortunately for these ass clowns, Charlie Hebdo was in January, Isis still bein' cray cray (yawn, typical) and people are starting to tire of vaccinations. Racist White Boys are a change of pace and exactly what March needed to kick off it's monthly world scandal debates which no one will care about come mid April. In the mean time if you don't make a poster, apologize that racism still exists on social media (if you're a white person) you have no heart.
Whether if his actions are just or not (which the boys should pursue) the Dean has a huge fire under his ass to act quickly and literally remove any idea that racism is an issue at his campus otherwise he becomes a part of the problem that it does still exist. The Dean doesn't want to work at his brother in law's plumbing company for the rest of his life, so he expels them. They're white, come from good families, they'll do OK.
The most important (and racist) thing to note about this whole ordeal is that we expect black athletes to hit women but we don't expect white people to be bigots. Because white people should know better and black people need to be forgiven so they can make their Team owners more money.
In the mean time if you don't make a poster, apologize that racism still exists on social media (if you're a white person) you have no heart are a racism apologist and part of the problem.
FTFY. The progressives are no longer satisfied with implying that you don't care enough if you perform the right social signaling exercises, but that you're actively racist/ an apoligist for racism and therefore just as bad as these frat bruhs.
*don't perform the right social signaling exercises...
What a sad article - if only campuses across America would take positive actions to expel racists rapists homophobes cis-gendered men we could finally begin - begin - to make strides against our hideous heteronormative rape culture.
There are a couple of just priceless aspects of the Mixon case as it relates to the SAE case. First, before hitting the woman he called her boyfriend some kind of homophobic slur. So much for offensive language being a big deal to OU. Best of all, the entire incident was captured by a security camera. OU and the Cleveland County DA went to extraordinary measures to ensure the public never saw that tape. The DA had the guy on video tape punching the woman and he agreed to let him plead no contest to the charge. It is true that she slapped him. But that only gave him the right to respond reasonably. No jury or judge would have ever find her slapping him made his punching and crushing her face self defense. They took the no contest plea because closed the case without making the evidence and the tape subject to mandatory release to the media under the Oklahoma sunshine laws. OU was vitally concerned about Mixon's privacy and the videotape unfairly prejudicing the public against him. Chew on that piece of irony for a moment.
Lastly, Mixon's defenders claim his actions were okay because she called him a racial slur. So I guess the rule at OU is that it is wrong to hit a woman unless she gets lippy. I so want the Mixon case to become a national issue. I want to see the race mongers and the feminists and the college athletic haters tear each other apart over it.
I guess the rule at OU is that it is wrong to hit a woman unless she gets lippy.
means yes.
Dammit!
[racial slur] means yes.
(White) Fraternity dudebros are racist, sexist enablers of the Patriarchy.
That said, I'm going to say something real unpopular, having seen the video of the incident between Joe Mixon and Amanda Moliter: she made physical contact with him first (a shove and a slap).
Should he have let it slide and not decked the drunk white woman? Probably. But it goes to that article yesterday about feminism breeding these "exquisitely fragile monsters." It's all fun and games and "empowerment" until you slap the wrong man and he decides to give you some equal lefts to go with your equal rights. Then you're looking around for some benevolent sexism, I mean, Chivalry.
How have you seen the video? It is my understanding it was never released to the public.
And yes, she did shove and slap him. The problem was his reaction. You can't crush someone's face because they slapped you. Sure, his physical strength was such that he probably didn't mean to do that. But too bad. I doubt Ray Rice meant to knock his wife out. Being big and strong means having to be careful.
I can understand the reason why you would give Mixon a second chance. They guy shouldn't have his life ruined because he lost his temper and hit some drunk girl. The problem is the incredible double standard. I don't think the SAEs should have their lives ruined for singing a racist song. Yet, they apparently have and David "just give the poor kid a second chance" Boren was leading the charge
The judge didn't release it to the public. Some media got to watch it, and a few other people got their hands on it before the restaurant owner "destroyed" their copy. I watched it last year and one computer ago, so I don't have the link on hand and I don't ask how people get their stuff.
And I agree. We have two incidents: one in which no actual harm takes place (SAE) and one in which it does (Mixon) and the reactions to both incidents are wildly disparate.
We have two incidents: one in which no actual harm takes place (SAE)
I think black people may disagree on the no harm thing.
White people hear that song the SAE folks sang and wonder "what's the big deal?"
Black people see it differently.
It's like the Confederate Flag: It's a swastika to some people.
Offense and disgust are not harm.
I, who is not black, agree.
Blacks do see it as harm. Perhaps not physical harm.
I'm willing to bet that the kid that sang the "nigger' song never burned a cross, lynched a nigger, or anything like that.
So what? That doesn't change what the 1st Amendment says. Moreover, even if it did, it still wouldn't justify the incredible double standard and hypocrisy of OU's treatment of this case versus its treatment of the Mixon case.
Alice, claiming hearing someone say something racist in a video is the "harm" in anything like the same way as having your face smashed is offensively stupid even for you.
Do you just think it is no big deal to hit white women?
So are you arguing that to be offended is to be harmed? Or that hearing "no black people will ever get pledged into OU SAE" is some form of mental trauma so great that it rises to an intentional infliction of emotional distress?
And you can't be kicked out of college for having either a Confederate Flag or a swastika.
Please define the actual harm that singing a song has done. Forgive me if I don't hold my breath.
LIke I said, me, a white middle-age guy, sees no harm in a silly song from a "BLACK RAPPER"...btw.
//" You can't crush someone's face because they slapped you"
....uhhhhh, I disagree?
The whole point of every-once-in -a -while interpersonal violence is that it keeps people in check. People don't act like assholes because they know they'll get decked.
Women are no exception. Back in the day, women just didn't act like assholes as part of chivalry. If a woman decided to act like a piece of shit, like a man, and mouth off to everyone, chivalry didn't really apply, and she could be expected to receive the full brunt of a punch.
There's no doubt in my mind this douche-ette must have been acting like a guttersnipe.
Seriously, in my world, most "assaults" would be ignored by the court under the de minimis concept. Most people have the luxury of not having met endless strings of massive jagaloons, but I know better.
I don't write the law, just read it. And your system, whatever its merits, isn't how it works.
"Being big and strong means having to be careful."
I'm not sure how far this goes. I had a drunk woman get mad at me, many years ago, and she started punching and kicking at me. I just sort of deflected the attack. Then she grabbed my shirt, leaned in toward me, and bit a chunk out of my face. I still have a nice little scar from it. That's what "being careful" got me.
"Being careful" to me goes both ways. If you initiate violence against someone bigger and stronger than yourself, why expect them to be careful? If they're trying to physically harm you, then why is it your responsibility to make sure not to injure them? To me, they've asked for it.
But then, a couple years ago, I had a mentally ill relative, who has a history of violence, start pushing me. I pushed her away, and she fell backwards and broke her wrist. I left, and the cops showed up at my place that night, and charged me with aggravated assault. Prosecutors ultimately dropped the charge when they decided to spend 5 seconds interviewing her, and realized she was batshit insane, but it's lose-lose if you're a man who happens to be assaulted by a woman.
Link?
And yes, to some extent she deserved to get her ass kicked for being a cunt from everything I've heard regarding that incident. But from a strictly legal perspective, the force he employed was well beyond any reasonable self defense within the countext of the situation.
The point isn't who's the good guy and who's the bad guy between him and the fratbruhs. The point is one act is illegal and an actual violation of someone rights while another is legal and violates no one rights, even if it is universally agreed upon that it is distasteful.
What these idiots never seem to realize is that every time these absurd double standards come up, it only fuels the resentment of people towards the "protected" groups and in fact creates more fertile grounds for racism than any stupid 11 second video of a dumb chant could ever hope to achieve.
Agreed. The prudent thing to do would have been to leave the drunk blonde alone and go away.
I agree with this, too. Once upon a time (70s) college is where you went to go do distasteful things and encounter distasteful ideas and get them out of your system. Now it's a sterile bubble of conformist, ideological purity.
True, but what is Mixon's "protected class"? That he's black? We've got a prison system full of people who look like him. Or that he's an OU football player? I've got to go with the football player choice.
True. One of the results of "equality"(not just legal equality) is that if you lay a hand in someone, they can beat the piss out of you.
Actually, the law says you're technically only allowed to use such force as it necessary to prevent further violence (and even then, you can only use such force as is proportionate--you can't shoot the bully who is punching you in the shoulder, even if you'e a 98-pound weakling who has no other way to make him stop).
I missed that one. Are these the type of girls that talk all sorts of shit and threaten to kick everyone's ass at the bar?
I missed that one. Are these the type of girls that talk all sorts of shit and threaten to kick everyone's ass at the bar?
It's in regard to this thread from yesterday about Feminism and Melodrama.
Oh Robby, you silly silly man: " you would think it might be perpetrators of actual violence, rather than perpetrators of offensive speech"
Speech that hurts someone's feelings IS violence! Even little slights are "micro-agressions".
Get with the program. It looks like you haven't learned enough yet. We have classes for that.
"Freedom of Speech" in America guarantees that one will not be prosecuted. It doesn't guarantee the reaction one will get from others.
Black people can go on RAP Video and say Nigger Nigger Nigger.
If a White person even uses the word nigger in a sentence can lose their jobs, have to move out of their homes temporarily, have to duck from the Media, have their faces posted everywhere.
My question to the author of this article:
Should we have a law that protects white people that saying the word "nigger" so they don't lose their jobs, homes, etc.?
Should the SAE folks be able to take the college to court on the grounds of FREE SPEECH?
Depends on the methods used to take their jobs and homes.
They should be able to take the college to court for violating their contractual agreement per the student body code of conduct, which specifically guarantees freedom of speech.
Should we have a law that protects white people that saying the word "nigger" so they don't lose their jobs, homes, etc.?
If it is the government doing the taking, we have a such a law Alice, the Constitution. I know you don't like it but I am sorry to inform you that the Constitution protects white people's right to free speech just like it does yours.
I'll repeat, I, Alice Bowie, don't believe that anyone should be kicked out of school, fired, or arrested for singing "nigger nigger nigger".
I am saying that black people do seem to take offense to white people using the word.
Sure they do. And they have every right to. I don't blame people for being offended over this. And I have no defense to offer for the people in the video. Ultimately, everyone as to learn to say "fuck off" and move on. There is only so much that can or should be done in response to this.
I really don't care that white people can't use the term in public without serious social approbation. I don't think black people are doing themselves any favors by using it themselves. But that is their business not mine.
Well said, and I wholeheartedly agree.
The frat boys in question were using the word in a private gathering, not "in public."
Taking offense does not mean actual harm was committed.
I think black people made an enormous mistake trying to take ownership of the N word and use it themselves. It was supposed to take the sting out of the word and make it something other than what it was. That isn't how it has worked out. Instead, taking the word has done is give white people who would like to use the word a grievance over the double standard. And it has done nothing to cheapen the word, at least when used by white people. It is just as nasty of a slur today as it was 30 years ago. So the end result has been black people just degrading themselves by using it.
I agree with Richard Pryor on this issue. For a long time he dropped N bombs in his routines all of the time. Then he visited Africa and decided that there was no way to save the word and no one should be subject to having it used on them and he stopped doing it. I think he was right.
Hard core rap is totally debasing to the black community. It is nothing but a minstrel show confirming the most hideous stereotypes about black people that is primarily sold to white teenagers as a way to shock their parents and gawk at the scary Negros. Why black intellectuals have embraced it or viewed it as anything but debasing is beyond me.
I don't think the fact that they used the word "nigger" is the main cause of anger here. If they had used the term "black guy" but still said they wouldn't let him into their fraternity and would lynch him, I'm pretty sure people would be more or less just as upset as they are in real life.
Don't tell John that,
Six months ago I lost my job and after that I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a great website which literally saved me. I started working for them online and in a short time after I've started averaging 15k a month... The best thing was that cause I am not that computer savvy all I needed was some basic typing skills and internet access to start... This is where to start......===========

That's what happens when you sing songs about lynching at work.

Because actually harming people is not nearly as serious as offending them.
it's easier for me to grant them to people who merely said insensitive things than it is for me to grant them to perpetrators of violence against women.
Sexist pig.
This mistake should cost OU millions of dollars and already has caused a loss of donations.
Football players are required to be violent and fraternities are supposed to be discriminatory and always have.
Welcome to the new profanity. One can use the coarsest of street terms for bodily functions on campus, and some courses books written that way are require reading. Yet, students chanting a misspelled version of the Spanish word for black are expelled. To exercise free speech one must reserve the use of a small square on campus, and even then the material is restricted. However, negro athletes get a free pass on everything, including parking tickets and requirements for good grades. Why can't white females get the same treatment?
Now mind you, I would not actually do this. (Not the violent type.) However, my first response was, if that were my daughter, that guy would be picking his teeth out of his ass after I got through with him. (He is an adult but only in the legal sense, not the maturity sense.) The rest of the football team should be making his life a living hell, pound this shit out of him on the football field and in the locker room.
Of course, that would presume that these are men and not children in an adult body. The racist stuff is stupid but the player going on violent on a woman is beyond any good I can think of. OU is just a bunch of loser shit I guess.
It's not just that he was violent, there's actually an "apples to apples" comparison to be made here.
Mixon used a homosexual slur against a man who was with the woman who got her face broke in 4 places. That is what started the entire thing.
That is documented in the Probable Cause indictment and available online, just search Mixon, Probable Cause and scribd.
So why is it acceptable to use a derogatory term aimed at a gay individual directly to their face, while its a punishable (by expulsion) to use a racial slur in private?
Not trying to defend the idiots at SAE, what they did was reprehensible, just trying to provide some background as to why these two situations are far more comparable than one would first imagine.
@Robby Soave
You left out several major factors just to support your racist cause...
About the Mixon incident. First, he wasn't representing the school at the time, and wasn't in association with the school during the incident. Second, he was charged with a misdemeanor assault charge; do you know what assault is, it isn't because he punched this girl, it is because he made a threatening gesture at her. His punch fell under self defense because she first pushed him then slapped him, yes he over reacted with his force, but in the state of Oklahoma if somebody slaps or punches you and you kill them you likely won't be charged with much more than manslaughter.
About the SAE students. These students were on a trip with the OU SAE chapter, this is a much bigger incident. One, they were drinking. OU is a dry campus, even if off campus if you are with a chartered event with any group associated with OU you can be charged with violating School alcohol policies. Second the SAE chapter was associated with the school, these students were representing the school at the time of the incident, the school is very clear about racial remarks and hate speech. If it had been one or two students out drinking on their own without the SAE chapter that would be one thing, but this incident was with the SAE chapter, the school had very few options but to suspend/expel those students deemed to be instigating the incident, and disband the Frat. because of the content of it.
An OU fan chimes in and demonstrates the mentality that allowed Mixon to get off with a slap on the wrist. Not only that, but the supposed legal basis you provided is extremely flimsy.
Mixon as a football player represents the school at all times. That's part of that nice scholarship he received. The frat was on their way to some sort of school function, but what they did was in private.
If I punched a women in response to her slapping me and broken her face, I don't expect that I would get the same sweetheart deal the prosecutor gave Mixon.
This wasn't a free speech issue until the school expelled two of the students. How they decided on just two is beyond me to begin with since everyone there (just about) seemed to be part of it. Removing the protected status of frat and their university owned housing is one thing, but the
The Victim Feminist movement has introduced the notion that subjective experience of harassment is at least as important as objective judgement.
This has now been formalized as a mandate to colleges and universities by the DOE/OCR.
The May 9, 2013 DOJ/DOE "Blueprint Letter" stated that: "Sexual harassment is unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature and can include unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature, such as sexual assault or acts of sexual violence." ? "In determining whether this denial or limitation [from a hostile environment] has occurred, the United States examines all the relevant circumstances from an objective and subjective perspective?"
This national "blueprint" for resolving Title IX sexual harassment complaints effectively undermined the 1st Amendment by banning speech, whether verbal or nonverbal, that another person finds subjectively offensive, effectively eliminating the legally normative "reasonable person" standard.
A Senate task force report recommends scaling back the mountain of regulations strangling higher education institutions: HELP for DOE Regulatory Excess & the History of Title IX Over-Reach
