Friday A/V Club: Woody Woodpecker Resists Wartime Rationing, Fights the Police
The 1943 cartoon Ration Bored
Hollywood made its share of propaganda during World War II, but there were times when it still tweaked The Man. Here's Woody Woodpecker in Ration Bored (1943):
The only concession to political propriety here is the "Buy More War Bonds for Victory" card after the story is over. Woody even gets to go to heaven after he dies—and to keep tormenting cops when he gets there.
Bonus film: The draft board chases Daffy Duck to hell in Bob Clampett's Draftee Daffy (1945).

I find it just as interesting that Woody was teaching kids how to siphon gas.
A skill that was heavily utilized in the 1970s.
Heaven has cops?
Sure - English Bobbies right?
A good European dies and he goes to Heaven - English police, French chefs, everyone has an Italian lover and the Germans run the joint. A bad European dies and he goes to Hell - French police, English chefs, everyone has a German lover and the Italians run everything.
I'm a huge fan of Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." In one episode, talking about Mel Brooks cracking endless jokes at the end of the show, Carl Reiner asks, "Do you know the difference between a Jew and a Frenchman? A Frenchman leaves without saying goodbye, and a Jew says goodbye without leaving."
He's an instigator.

Didn't mention the unlimited "X" ration that politicians got (natch).
I thought Standards & Practices of the day required the cops to win...imagine the outrage if this came out today.
