Brian Doherty on the Libertarian Party's Possible Banner Year
The Libertarian Party is showing signs of unusually encouraging midterm-election results in November. This seems only natural for an era when both independence from major party identification and a general yen for libertarian ideas are growing.
At least three L.P. candidates for federal or statewide office are also polling unusually strongly for Libertarians, handily beating the gap between their major party opponents. North Carolina Senate candidate Sean Haugh, Kentucky Senate candidate David Patterson, and Florida gubernatorial candidate Adrian Wyllie talk of the pleasures and pains for running Libertarian in a year when they all agree awareness and acceptance of the label are higher than they've ever seen.
