Brickbat: The Language of Love

A French judge has ordered blogger Caroline Doudet to pay 2,500 euros to a restaurant she gave a bad review to and ordered her to change the title of that blog post. The judge said the review showed up too high in Google's search results for the restaurant. The judge also expressed concern that her blog had too many followers.

She screwed herself by complaining that there were snails in the escargot.
Live cannibal snails?
Just when you start thinking the states are descending to the bottom of the cesspit, Europe comes along to remind you it could always be worse.
So, I'm guessing French restaurant reviews are even less reliable than Yelp.
And...
Yet another airliner goes missing.
Over Africa this time, on a route from Ouagadou to Algoers
"Algiers"
"Ougadougou"
Ouagadougou, actually.
"Afikka"
Efrika.
Over Mali. Thats not suspicious at all.
This one should be easier to find, anyway.
It's probably right behind that sand dune over there...or that one...
At least the ELT should be locatable.
And Mali? Yeah, no worries there at all.
Of course I've been reading that Swiftair (who wet leased the plane to Air Algiere) is a shitty operation using old, badly maintained planes. According to one source, their MO is to use old planes, and pay their pilots next to nothing. One link implies they basically have their pilots pay them for the privilege of flying (hour building, I guess).
Old shitty airplanes and poor pilots in Africa? I refuse to believe that.
I'm also willing to bet that they cover routes/passengers that companies with higher overhead won't(or can't) serve.
Yeah, Ouagadougou - Algiers isn't exactly Hong Kong - Tokyo
We ain't found shit.
+1 comb.
Nice.
Racist!
Just read a report that it was vectored by ATC to avoid a dust storm because of "poor visibility," which makes little sense to me. Yes, you want to avoid dust storms but visibility has.little to do with why.
How about if your plane is sol old an shitty that all you've got is VFR?
Lets roll with it man, I like it.

Restrictions on freedom of speech are justified by fear of political unrest, riot etc. , but in practice it is always about this kind of petty bullshit. Cronyism and peoples feelings.
The cravenness and pettiness of the Obama admin never ceases to amaze me. Given the slightest pretense for attacking one of our most cherished and important ideals he did not hesitate to do so. Constitutional scholar, my ass.
Everyone knows you can't shout "Yuck!" in a crowded theater, SB.

FTFY 🙂
Yeah, Obama should have picked better judges for France!
The restaurant owners said the article's prominence was unfairly hurting their business.
Well, cry me a fucking river.
Unfair. Fair.
The words of a child, or in this case a tadpole.
What would be considered fairly harming a business?
Forming a union of it's employees and extorting funds from the owner.
I think we have a winner, ladies and gentlemen.
I AM IMPRESSED!
What would be considered fairly harming a business?
Depends on what they business to deserve it.
Now, if some restaurant had brought in armed goons to extort 2500 Euros from me, I would say that a Molotov cocktail through the window might be fair.
What would be considered fairly harming a business?
Government induced harm, of course.
I guess that pretty much proves that we are still better than France, as awful as we have become. We all know what would happen to that restaurant here, just ask former Amazon vendors who try to sue people over their review.
"Still better than France" is a pretty low bar, but yeah, at least we have that.
At least the shit sandwich has the crust removed.
It's also alarming that the judge showed no comprehension of how a search engine works. I must have missed it when how widely circulated speech was became a litmus test for its validity.
The mere fact that the French equivalent of an interlocutory injunction would issue on this is really depressing. And of course since the blogger doesn't have the cash to take this to trial, the restaurateur gets what he wants - her honest opinion is squashed to serve his interests
Not really. Guess what's at the top of the search listings now ....
Well, it's clear that the blogger should have bribed better
Don't you mean the Restaurant Owner should have bribed better?
It's France. It's bribes all the way down.
I guess nobody in France reads Bastiat any more. Or at least, if they do it's to mock him for not being enlightened enough.
Sadly, that's true! I'm French, and I don't personally do know anyone who even heard of Bastiat. Only on the Internet could I find any
My condolences. Want to move to Denver and open a restaurant?
