It sounded simple enough. A second-grade teacher at Colorado's Talbott Elementary School asked her class to go outside, look at the clouds and thendraw what they saw. Kody Smith thought the cloud he saw looked like a gun, so that's what he drew. His teacher filed a bad behavior report on him.

    It was an ASSAULT CLOUD.

    1. AlmightyJB   11 years ago

Nobody needs more than three clouds.

  2. Gene   11 years ago

    This is a joke...right?

    1. AlmightyJB   11 years ago

Public education? Yeah, it's a joke. A very sad joke.

      1. Libertarian   11 years ago

I only enjoy these stories when the last paragraph states that the parents are taking their kid out of the public school and either home-schooling or sending them to the local private school.

        1. Almanian!   11 years ago

          AND NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED!

  3. Bardas Phocas   11 years ago

    I see -- a boot stamping on a human face ? forever

    1. Raven Nation   11 years ago

I'm not going to remember this exactly but, someone in the commentariat brought this up a few months back. They suggested that Orwell got it wrong. Instead it would be a bureaucrat frustrating humanity forever.

Whoever it was, they were far more poetical in their explanation than I just was.

      1. SweatingGin   11 years ago

Not 1984, not quite Brave New World. Brazil really seems to be the dystopia that won out.

        Still plenty of 1984-ish things.

        1. Doctor Whom   11 years ago

          With some Idiocracy mixed in.

      2. aix42   11 years ago

        fisting humanity

  4. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

I could draw a better gun than that.

    1. UnCivilServant   11 years ago

You've also (presumably) passed the second grade already.

      1. Suthenboy   11 years ago

        Why would you presume that?

        1. UnCivilServant   11 years ago

Well, he constructs sentences of at least a fifth grade level. Though he could have been an apprentice scrivener.

          1. Almanian!   11 years ago

His minions write all his entries. How he ever got so much power and money is beyond me - he's certainly done well for a thing that never made it out of preschool.

            1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

I got so much by not spending a lot on minions. Ernesto my Filipino manservant transcribes all my comments. He doesn't eat much.

              1. Slammer   11 years ago

I want Fist suspended. He's disruptive to the learning experience.

    2. Old Man With Candy   11 years ago

      Thank you, Maddox.

      1. gimmeasammich   11 years ago

I guess I should preview more replies to see if my joke has already been made.

    3. gimmeasammich   11 years ago

I could draw a better gun than that.

      Are you really Maddox?

    4. Radioactive   11 years ago

      it's not a gun, it's a poorly drawn penis....hahahahahah

  5. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

The report says Kody showed behavior that is disruptive to the entire learning community. The parents were worried that this would be on his permanent school record.

So much stupid. Bureaucrats being piss-ant assholes. Parents worrying about their second grader's college applications.

Reason is killing me by enabling my inner cynic.

  6. Libertarian   11 years ago

"Who said it was a gun, Miss Landers? Why, it's a......a.........a........a..........a boomerang! It's god's boomerang - see the halo on it? And it's flying across the sun. I think YOU"RE the one being disruptive, Miss Landers."

    1. Almanian!   11 years ago

      God HATES Miss Landers!

      1. Libertarian   11 years ago

        Then I hate god.

  7. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

I'm sure that putz Ellis on TI last night would approve.

Holy shit that guy was insufferably pompous.

    1. Ted S.   11 years ago

But did this gun make racist comments about Kim and Kanye's wedding?

  8. invisible furry hand   11 years ago

He should have just drawn a cock like every other little kid would have done

    1. Ted S.   11 years ago

      Circumcised or uncircumcised?

      [ducking]

      1. EDG reppin' LBC   11 years ago

        Deep dish.

  9. Lady Bertrum   11 years ago

This kid is some variety of genius. You know he did it on purpose. He knew it would aggravate the right or wrong people and he did it to stick up their asses. The correct response would have been: "Nice work, Cody, but it lacks detail."

    1. Rich   11 years ago

A *true* genius would have drawn the gun with the circle-backslash symbol superimposed.

  10. Will4Freedom   11 years ago

Some people just see the world differently. Just about everywhere I go I see those tiles that are just random swirls. I can look at just about every tile and find something in them... mostly faces.

My wife says it's the sign of a creative mind, but I just think I'm crazy.

    Best wishes, Lad.

    1. Almanian!   11 years ago

Sometimes a cigar is just a smoke.

      Sometimes...

    2. WDATPDIM?!   11 years ago

I see faces in those things all the time. Especially when I'm on the hopper and forgot to bring some reading material.

  11. Pro Libertate   11 years ago

We used to draw B-52s when I was a kid. Better or worse than guns?

    1. UnCivilServant   11 years ago

      For what application?

      1. Pro Libertate   11 years ago

Sometimes just flying, sometimes bombing. Don't recall there being any targets drawn.

Also drew a certain starship phasering stuff.

    2. sarcasmic   11 years ago

      Rock Lobster or Love Shack?

    3. Doctor Whom   11 years ago

I used to draw space battles, but that was in the seventies, so I wasn't suspended or medicated or anything.

      1. Libertarian   11 years ago

Yep. I used to run around my parents' house with METAL six-shooters in a holster shouting "bang!" I'm so old, I bet the holsters were leather, too. I guess it was okay, though, 'cause I was shooting indians.

    4. WDATPDIM?!   11 years ago

I used to draw cemeteries. I shudder to think what would have happened to me in today's public schools.

      1. gimmeasammich   11 years ago

In sixth grade I drew on an assignment a t-shirt that I had seen that had a sniper and said, "Sniper: if you run you'll only die tired." My teacher pulled me aside right before going to recess and said that I probably shouldn't draw that kind of stuff and gave me a new assignment sheet to do. Nothing else happened. This was 1995/1996.

    5. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

As long as they were on Planet Claire. It has pink air you know.

  12. sarcasmic   11 years ago

Would he have gotten in trouble for drawing a penis?

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

But of course. That's a threat too.

      1. sarcasmic   11 years ago

But what about tolerance and diversity?

        1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

If that penis is intended for a female, then it's heteronormative patriarchical oppression.

          1. sarcasmic   11 years ago

And if it's not intended for a female?

            1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

He's just expressing himself. They'll probably get him a tumblr account.

            2. TANSTaaFL   11 years ago

And if it's not intended for a female?

They give him an award for courage

  13. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

    Slightly OT:

    http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025012445

While Black president is in power, they will react this way to everything.

They all of a sudden want their country back and they need guns to do it...

Yes, they were disgusting filthy pigs before Black President, but since then they have gone on pig steroids..

  14. Swiss Servator, CH yeah!   11 years ago

I see a hockey goalie stick, with the pick on edge behind it.

    1. Swiss Servator, CH yeah!   11 years ago

      *puck*

      1. TANSTaaFL   11 years ago

Yes, yes it does...more specifically, it looks like Jonathon Quick's goalie stick with a puck sailing over it.

  15. Rich   11 years ago

"Our primary responsibility as a school district is to ensure safety of all staff, students and community. We exercised an age-appropriate reaction to an incident. The student's education was never disrupted nor is this incident on the student's permanent record. Our response was in line with routine procedures focused on school safety."

A load of bullshit in every sentence.

    1. WDATPDIM?!   11 years ago

If their primary responsibility is to ensure safety, then why don't they shut down the whole system?

  16. Doctor Whom   11 years ago

How dare you do what I instructed you to do!

    1. Seamus   11 years ago

Sounds like that teacher needs to be fired for luring students into gun-related play. How can our schools be safe, nurturing spaces if our teachers act so irresponsibly?
