Damon Root: Atlantic City Wants to Bulldoze a Home to Benefit a Casino
The power of eminent domain allows the government to take private property and put it to a public use, such as building a road or a bridge. But in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a state agency known as the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority is seeking to abuse that power by seizing one family's home in service of a shady real estate scheme designed to "complement" a politically connected casino.
