Former Country Club Hills, Illinois, police chief Regina Evans has been sentenced to five years in prison. Evans pleaded guilty last year to stealing more than $900,000 in state grant money.

Not in this case. The procedure to stealing state grant money is to make a crony company with a great deal of structural defects but connections to the decision makers so that it can get grants that are then paid as renumeration to the employees (aka, the sole proprietor and a few friends)

Let her go. She's got a record of embezzlement now, so she won't get any jobs with responsibility; even police forces will look at her cross-eyed. Her marriage (I haven't RTFM) is probably on the rocks, and the loss of family income may piss off hubby to dump her. Any job she gets, confiscate some for restitution with interest. It's better than spending money to lock her up.

IOW, she's not a street thug any more, she's not a random danger to the public any more, and if she shoots somebody's dog, it's not in the line of duty any more.
