    Procedures were followed, etc etc?

    1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

Not in this case. The procedure to stealing state grant money is to make a crony company with a great deal of structural defects but connections to the decision makers so that it can get grants that are then paid as renumeration to the employees (aka, the sole proprietor and a few friends)

    2. Zombie Jimbo   12 years ago

No, she only managed to mis-appropriate $900k out of the $1.2m grant. Shoddy work for Chicago.

Is mis-appropriate a word, or does it only apply in Illinois.

      1. Matrix   12 years ago

It is a word, but you don't need the hyphen.

      2. waffles   12 years ago

Well she mis-misappropriated because she got caught and didn't even manage to capture all the loot.

"I made a mistake. I was wrong. But is that enough to take my life away and keep me away from my child and family?"

    Ummm...

    Hell, yeah!

If you can't do the time, then don't commit the crime. People in a certain line of work say that.

      1. Almanian!   12 years ago

...and keep your eye on the sparrow.

    2. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

I'm sure that's the same question she asks every time her department went after non-violent offenders.

  3. Suthenboy   12 years ago

" But is that enough to take my life away and keep me away from my child and family?"

Lady, unless you are paying the money back, yes. Yes it is.

    1. Suthenboy   12 years ago

Oh, and notice that the sociopathic bitch said "keep me away from my child and family", not "deprive a child of it's mother". Its all about her dontcha know. She is the one that is suffering here.

      1. Rich   12 years ago

        Nice catch.

  4. x4rqcks3f   12 years ago

...a gaunt-looking Evans, dressed in a red jumpsuit with her ankles chained, told the judge.

Evans can rot in hell (not just for this crime), but I think it says something pathetic about our criminal justice system that she's in chains. Is she a 50 year old track star?

    1. WTF   12 years ago

Well, she looks to be in pretty good shape, and the sheriff's deputies are likely fat shits, so she could probably out run them.

      1. Scarecrow Repair   12 years ago

Let her go. She's got a record of embezzlement now, so she won't get any jobs with responsibility; even police forces will look at her cross-eyed. Her marriage (I haven't RTFM) is probably on the rocks, and the loss of family income may piss off hubby to dump her. Any job she gets, confiscate some for restitution with interest. It's better than spending money to lock her up.

IOW, she's not a street thug any more, she's not a random danger to the public any more, and if she shoots somebody's dog, it's not in the line of duty any more.

  5. WTF   12 years ago

She should have just stuck to having her goons beat and kill fellow citizens, then she'd be fine.

  6. Rich   12 years ago

"I made a mistake. I was wrong. But is that enough to take my life away and keep me away from my child and family?"

Perhaps not. But your pleading guilty to stealing more than $900,000 in state grant money *is*.

  7. Rufus J. Firefly   12 years ago

"I made a mistake. I was wrong. But is that enough to take my life away and keep me away from my child and family?"

This is perhaps one of the most astonishing things one can hear. Let's reverse a second. If some chump had said the same thing would she care? Never mind that, what is the LAW in this matter? How she - a police chief no less - can even utter that cuts right to the matter of her being a sociopath.

You committed a crime honey. Now do the time.

    Illinois is some place.

    1. JW   12 years ago

"What difference ? at this point, does it make?"

  8. Rufus J. Firefly   12 years ago

"To this day and very minute, she has never acknowledged the extent of the carnage she has caused," Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Bass said in a blistering argument for a lengthier term.

"She's not a person of complete, good character," he continued. "She's been a financial and personal scourge on the city of Chicago."

    Nice.

    1. Almanian!   12 years ago

Could say that about a whole shitload of pols in Chi Town.

    2. wareagle   12 years ago

I think he's saving that line and will simply fill in the appropriate name as the time comes.

    3. Bean Counter   12 years ago

      Like that's unique in Chicago.

    4. Bean Counter   12 years ago

      Like that's unique in Chicago.

  9. Almanian!   12 years ago

"There is no justice. There's just us...."

    ANGELA DAVIS!!!

    *raises fist *

  10. Rich   12 years ago

"She's been a financial and personal scourge on the city of Chicago."

Emphasis added. Perhaps we *can* do something about that prison term ....

  11. Old Johnnie Goggabie   12 years ago

    Apropos of nothing...

  12. db   12 years ago

"Made a mistake," my ass. Making a mistake in her official.capacity would be accidentally approving a new vacation policy or maybe typing in something wrong on an annual report to the city. Deliberate theft of public.funds is.not a "mistake."

  13. creech   12 years ago

Ah, yes. Another local yokel police chief who thinks she, with her
four stars, outranks such accomplished generals as U.S. Grant, George
Patton, R.E. Lee, and numerous other three star generals who led
tens of thousands of American troops.
