Brickbat: You Gotta Have Faith

When the Community College of Baltimore County turned down Brandon Jenkins' application to its radiation therapy program, he asked for an explanation. In an email, the program's director said several other applicants had better grades than Jenkins, but she also singled out his response to an interview question. When asked what was the most important thing to him, he said, "My God." The director wrote that radiation therapy "is not the place for religion." She went on to tell him that in any future interviews he might want to leave his "thoughts and beliefs out."Jenkins has sued the school, claiming it violated his First Amendment rights.

Maybe he can just reapply and tell them that his views on religion have "evolved".
Maybe he can sue them into Kingdom Come (speaking of religion).
The director wrote that radiation therapy "is not the place for religion."
Something about discrimination. That is all.
Yeah, working around radioactive devices all day and shooting beams of radioactivity at helpless people....who needs God's help there?
What if he was black and said "my people" were most important?
"There's no place for blackness in this program!"
Somewhere Al Sharpton has detected a disturbance in the force.
What if he were black and gave the same response..."My God"???
Does anyone for a nanosecond think he'd be rejected?????
This is something about Progs., the disconnect between two positions that is maddening.
They despise religion, except Islam, and love minorities as a cause. While woefully or willfully ignoring the fact that most minorities are devout in their faith.
WTF
In Pulp fiction, bartender Paul asks Vincent Vega (Travolta) about his upcoming "date" with Mia Wallace. The conversation gets prickly and finally Paul puts up his hands and says "My name is Paul, that's between Y'all".
To which Vega rightly grumbles: "Then what did you fuckin' ask me for?"
I would think Jenkins should grumble the same thing.
If fear of eternal damnation isn't a great motivator to do well in the course then what is?
"I have a passion to pursue the healing art of radiation therapy..."
"Great!"
"In order to honor God through my labor."
"Next!"
When asked what was the most important thing to him, he said,
Back when I used to hire a lot of people, one very cute 20-year-old blonde interviewee told me what was important to her, "Par-tay, baby! Little Friday is drink-all-night night! I'm not worth a shit after, so don't expect much from me Friday mornings."
She thought she had the job just because I enjoyed her interview.
At least she didn't use the G-word.
Knowing better, I still would have found it very difficult not to hire her.
Hah. Back when we used to be able to interview hourly applicants (before we were prohibited from doing so as a result of a court case based on conditions not dissimilar to those noted in the article), one young lady informed us that her most-important characteristic was that "I am pretty."
She then went on to extrapolate and expound on this subject.
She was not that pretty.
We did not hire her.
So, did God instruct you to hire her or not?
Christfags can't be persecuted because they are the majority of the privileged and powerful.
Check your SoCon privilege!
You have offended the machine god, now your computers shall freeze and x-rays will irradiate your gonads. May the god of the flesh have mercy on your soul.
Ave Machina.
How stupid and arrogant do you have to be to give a discriminatory answer like this? She could have just said grades or even just not answered. But she had to rub his nose in it and open herself and the school up to litigation.
The same sort of arrogance that makes someone discriminate against faith - they don't believe there's anything wrong with doing so, so they don't believe they have to hide it.
And it's also arrogance when the religious discriminate against people they don't like, right, guys?

Interview Training 101 - "Stay Away From Dangerous* Topics"
Interview Training 301 - "If Interviewee Brings Up Dangerous Topics, Redirect"
Interview Training 400 - "If You're Going to Discriminate, REMAIN SILENT ON THAT AND JUST TELL THEM THE SELECTED APPLICANT MORE-CLOSELY MATCHED YOUR NEEDS."
Fortunately, people as stupid as this keep people like me employed. Lucratively.

*"dangerous" = "legally ptorected or prohibited"
The list of non-important or irrelevant questions on college applications has gotten out of control. Once you get past grades, the entire process is completely subjective, which makes it ripe for these types of abuse.
My fave interv is still the young man who hemmed and hawed FOREVER about the gap in his employment history. We finally pressed him hard enough, and he coughed up..."Well, technically, I was in jail..."
Best. Answer. EVER. We both had to turn away because we were about to bust out laughing. Turned out - youthful offender, rehabbed, flying straight for the last few years, no problems...
We hired him. Never had the first problem with the kid. ..."Well, technically, I was in jail..." I still haz a lulz
oh that is beautiful!
At least he wasn't literally in jail
I've often felt that figuratively I was in jail.....ironically most of those times I was at work.
Is that a different technicality from the one where they forgot to pick up the guy for 13 years?
Seems that the whole 6000 year-old Earth fantasy and radioactive half-lifes would be incompatible anyway.
Couldn't a creator capable of creating an entire universe also be capable of creating a planet complete with fossils and partially decayed radioactive isotopes?
Woah woah God didn't put fossils on Earth. Satan did. To trick us into developing archaeology.. the most sinful science.
You do know that not all theists are young-earth creationists, right?
You do know that only religious people can be accused of ignorance, right?
I mean, come on, flying spaghetti monster!! *wins every religious debate*
Not all of the deeply religious are YEC's.
CCBC spokeswoman Hope Davis declined to comment on the pending litigation but said the college is committed to diversity."We have so many people from so many different backgrounds and so many different cultures," she said. "Just to think that we would discriminate based on religion ... it's just not something that we do." A response from CCBC's attorney Peter S. Saucier, also included in the exhibits, said the school seeks applicants "motivated by an individual passion in the field" and that Jenkins' statement that he was pursuing the program at the behest of God or others "was not a good answer."
With all due respect, these clowns are just digging themselves in deeper.
"With all due respect"
Which would be....NONE!
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."
