A Russian warplane "buzzed" the USS Donald Cook in the Black Sea in what American military officials called a "provocative action."

        Pretty much.

      Hello.

Ok. Am I missing something about the KKK condemning the crime?

      1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

It's heartwarming, in a bizarre sort of way.

        1. gaijin   11 years ago

          It's hate speech though, right?

          1. Rich   11 years ago

Certainly. Just consider the source; and if that's not enough -- it was "too little, too late".

    3. Restoras   11 years ago

provocative action = US destoyer in the Black Sea

      1. poguemahoney   11 years ago

That is exactly what I thought. Why the hell are we there, except to provoke?

    4. Suthenboy   11 years ago

What the fuck are they doing there? Jugears has our sailors fucking with the Ruskies....for what? Yeah, the Ruskies are the ones being provocative here.

If a Russian warship was cruising around the gulf of mexico I can't imagine they would not be buzzed by our planes.

It was a desperate plea not to send Joe "the boob" Biden.

Looks like someone hired a PR firm.

    1. paranoid android   11 years ago

Imperial wizard, heh. If these guys could ever just stop with the lynchings and cross burnings and crap, they could get a hell of a D&D campaign going.

      1. pan fried wylie   11 years ago

not if all their ranks are caster classes. they have knights, right? (not looking it up)

        1. PD Scott   11 years ago

One of the offshoot Klan groups was the Imperial Knights of the etc., if I remember correctly. Archers, I don't know, but I expect some of them do bow hunting. A few hardscrabble ministers, so they have clerics, sort of.

        2. Juice   11 years ago

          Aren't they all knights?

        3. Agammamon   11 years ago

Screw that dude - wizards are tier 1, they can do what any other class can do and often better than classes dedicated to that thing.

*Knights* are tier fucking 5. You'd be better off taking a damned *fighter* than a knight.

      2. Crazyotto   11 years ago

Does this have anything to do with the game of thrones?

Woman tackled and arrested for not talking to Cop. Why did he want to talk to her? Because she was walking on the wrong side of the street...

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Well, it was for her safety.

And the cop did get home safely after his shift.

      So everybody wins!

    2. Agammamon   11 years ago

Look - its extremely important for the good of society that you walk on the appropriate side of the street. Its completely appropriate for the city to have made a law mandating that and have police officers use violence to enforce that law.

If you want to walk all higgledy-piggledy then move to Somalia.

    3. Suthenboy   11 years ago

      Skimming the comments is interesting.

      1. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

They are surprisingly decent. Not too many idiots defending the cop.

        1. gimmeasammich   11 years ago

Has it been posted at PoliceOne yet? That might change your tune.

          1. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

Maybe, but it's encouraging to see average people call this cop and his supervisor out. I was expecting a lot of "well, what was she expecting?"

    4. Brandon   11 years ago

"The motorcycle has a patch on both sides of the gas tank. It's black and white and says 'Whitehouse Police,' and has red and blue lights on it," Whitehouse Police Chief Craig Shelton said. "So you have to take it for what it is. Do you think he's a Whitehouse police officer? Why would you think he's someone impersonating a police officer?

      Tone deaf, stupid and presumptive.

      1. R C Dean   11 years ago

Why would you think he's someone impersonating a police officer?

"Because, Chief, I never thought someone so slovenly, crude, unintelligent, and unprofessional could possibly be a member of your department. I stand corrected."

IRS did not upgrade their OS, so now they pay Microsoft millions for custom support for XP.
Yet, people idiots want the government to run their healthcare.

Wow, they've actually manage to upgrade past Windows 3.1?

      3. poguemahoney   11 years ago

Well at least they are not using DOS....

    2. Rich   11 years ago

      Oh, FFS! 8-(

At least get Kathleen Sebelius to take over the project.

    3. seguin   11 years ago

I wonder how much Microsoft lobbied for them to "forget" to upgrade....or was it just payback for complicity in leaving some back doors open?

      1. prolefeed   11 years ago

No, it's worse than that -- once a government has a legacy computer or operating system, they are loathe to update it (unless they are the military). I guess they realize they are so incompetent, if they can sorta get something running, they are afraid to fuck with it.

Or maybe, it's just, "hey, we have no competition! We don't have to stay up to date to avoid losing customers!"

  5. Palin's Buttplug   11 years ago

Six months ago, global finance officials meeting in Washington berated the U.S. for failing to put its fiscal house in order. This time, the critics were silent.

The Congressional Budget Office projected today that the 2014 deficit will be the lowest in six years and down more than 60 percent from the record $1.4 trillion in 2009. With the annual April 15 tax filing deadline looming, the U.S. has received about $80 billion more in income taxes this fiscal year than it had 12 months earlier.

The Treasury's coffers are swelling as the almost five-year economic expansion gains momentum, generating more corporate and personal income-tax revenue and reducing spending on social services. Stronger growth, in turn, will depend less on government spending to fuel growth than it has in the past.

    FUCK YEAH!

"The Congressional Budget Office projected today that the 2014 deficit will be the lowest in six years and down more than 60 percent from the record $1.4 trillion in 2009."

I'm totally trying this with my wife. I'm going to vegas every weekend for the next month. At the end of the year, when I am only going to vegas twice a month, I can be all "Look honey, I has been responsible. We are at our lowest level of debauchery in 6 months! I am sure we can cut that number in half next year- only one vegas trip per month!"

      1. Ted S.   11 years ago

I don't see why she'll complain. Your wife enjoys it when I engage in debauchery with her.

        1. Overt   11 years ago

"Your wife enjoys it when I engage in debauchery with her."

Thank god someone finally sated her need to crush a man's balls and have someone eat her own shit. I got tired of telling her no. You have done me a great service, sir.

        2. Bobarian   11 years ago

          Still too much spending. Check.

      2. John   11 years ago

Yeah. Obama reduced the deficit that he created by 60%. I am going to come over and piss on your floor Overt. But don't worry, I will clean up 60% of it.

        1. Agammamon   11 years ago

Oh no, not clean it up - tomorrow I'm going to piss on your floor again, but less of it this time.

        2. Palin's Buttplug   11 years ago

You're an idiot. You know that Bush left the highest deficit in history to Obama ($1.3 trillion).

Now I will tell the truth. The GOP House helped force that deficit down to these lower levels.

          1. Overt   11 years ago

You say: "You're an idiot. You know that Bush left the highest deficit in history to Obama ($1.3 trillion)."

And yet your previously quoted article says:

"The Congressional Budget Office projected today that the 2014 deficit will be the lowest in six years and down more than 60 percent from the record $1.4 trillion in 2009."

I mean christ. You can't even do TWO fucking posts without contradicting yourself. Please enlighten me as to how $1.3T is actually more than $1.4T or how Bush somehow caused the 2009 deficit. (Also, let's not forget that "Bush's Deficit" include a bunch of TARP spending that was, ya know, signed by Obama.)

            1. Palin's Buttplug   11 years ago

Listen, dumbass. The deficit BUSH left was #$1.3 trillion (CBO numbers).

The current FY deficit is only $480 billion.

Now spew your Rush Redneck talking points.

              1. Protagoronus   11 years ago

The current FY deficit is only $480 billion

                The Treasury's coffers are swelling

                I haz a confuse

                1. The Original Jason   11 years ago

                  Simple.

The Federal government uses cash-based accounting. Deficits count as revenues and debts don't count until you're making payments on them.

              2. Overt   11 years ago

Palin: If you want to hold Bush accountable for his budget, then let's pull out the 300+ billion that Obama put onto that outlay and add it to the 2010 budget. That would put 2010's deficit at around 1.6 Trillion.

The fact is, Bushpig delivered Obama a 1 Trillion dollar deficit, and Obama pushed it up to 1.4 trillion. If you don't want to talk about years where Obama and Bush worked together to screw the fucking piggy-bank, then we can talk about 2010, which- at 1.3T- was only moderately below the previous year's absurdity. And my point would still stand. Obama shouldn't get credit for "cutting spending" from the ridiculous high he got it to.

              3. Red Rocks Rockin   11 years ago

The current FY deficit is only $480 billion.

                10/01/2013 16,747,478,675,335.18

                04/01/2014 17,578,141,920,035.68

                Total: $831 billion

                Oops--LOL

      3. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

My wife fucked only four men this month after averaging 5 for the last three years!

        We're renewing our vows.

      4. R C Dean   11 years ago

The Congressional Budget Office projected today that the 2014 deficit will be the lowest in six years

Accordng to debt to the penny, the debt held by the public at the end of the last fiscal year (09/30/13) was $11.927TT. Through the end of March, it was $12.581TT, for a deficit to date of $654BB.

For the same period last fiscal year (09/30/12 - 03/30/13), the deficit was $647BB.

If I'm reading the CBO right, they are saying that the FY 2014 deficit will be $560BB (40% of $1.4TT). The deficit is already almost $100BB higher than that.

The deficit has never gone down from 03/20 to the end of the fiscal year. Sure, they get a big revenue pickup in April, but not enough to fund the entire government for the rest of the year, much less take $100BB off the already accumulated deficit.

        Something doesn't add up here.

        1. R C Dean   11 years ago

OK, looking at the total public debt, it has increased by $816BB from 09/30/13 to 03/30/14.

So that's even worse. I have no clue why the CBO thinks the deficit (whether total or held by the public) is going to be anywhere close to H0BB. Its just lunacy, no matter how you look at it.

          1. R C Dean   11 years ago

            "anywhere close to $460BB".

            Fuck you, squirrelz.

    2. Tak Kak   11 years ago

The CBO also says the deficit is going to start rising every year after 2015. A bit premature for a "fuck yeah"

It's not quite as bad as it seems, because in nature, women would experience periods quite rarely ? perhaps as little as 7-10 times in their lives between lactational amenorrhea and pregnancies.

Yet *another* reason for the government not to fund birth control.

That's three times the percentage of votes Gary Johnson reeived.

The difference, Ted, is that Johnson was already nominated by the LP to be their candidate for president, whereas F. Glenn Miller was never a candidate for the U.S. Senate. He was contending for the nomination, but that is a far cry from what Peter Caca is insinuating.

Pragmatically speaking, are there ways to frame the public discourse that might circumnavigate or penetrate the cognitive loop of these conspiratorial types? In other words, what kind of dialogue may perhaps serve to move the national discussion in a more productive direction, given your insights into the psychology of denial?
      permalink
[?]StephanLewandowskyProfessor of Cognitive Science|U. of WA[S] 24 points 7 hours ago
My views are: 1. The public is currently being denied the right to be fully informed about the risks it is facing. 2. There are many reasons for this, from 'doubt-mongering' to ideologically-motivated denial. 3. We know from much research on misinformation (reviewed at: Lewandowsky, S.; Ecker, U. K. H.; Seifert, C.; Schwarz, N. & Cook, J. Misinformation and its Correction: Continued Influence and Successful Debiasing Psychological Science in the Public Interest, 2012, 13, 106-131) that people cannot dismiss "noise" or misinformation unless they are given a reason to do so. 4. Hence it is important for the public to understand who the people are who oppose climate science. This is one of the reasons why I am doing the research i am doing.
In a nutshell: Underscore the consensus which will move all but the hardcore, and identify who the hardcore contrarians are so the remainder of the population can make an educated choice about who to listen to.

      1. Warty   11 years ago

Yeah, I saw that; a follow up:

1982: Reid enters NV legislature, estimate new worth at 1-1.5m.

2012: net worth, 3-10m. That's a really big spread to the point of being worthless. On the bottom number he's doubled his wealth in 30 years which doesn't seem unreasonable. BUT, Reid consistently refuses to release personal financial info.

Huh. So all the conspiracy stuff about him being behind this in order to grab the land is likely true.

I would love it if he let his true colors show for everyone to see and this nasty business ends up being his undoing.

I think he's making a very big mistake if he doesn't just let this die. But he's so drunk on power and senile at this point, that he probably can't possibly imagine his own downfall.

I came across some pretty righteous derp on my FB feed this afternoon.

Short version: All that rampant and institutionalized homophobia across Africa has nothing to do with Africans or their beautiful culture; it's the white man's influence and fault entirely!

Yeah, those damn white Ugandans are totally out of control, I have heard.

      US evangelicals
In today's postcolonial world, the influence of US conservative evangelicals on Africa's sexual politics cannot be understated. They have picked up where their colonial predecessors left of and are providing the propaganda, by way of religious brainwashing, for Africa's antigay campaigners to make the case for harsher laws against LGBT communities. This is why holding American missionaries like Scott Lively and Lou Engle to account is crucial to the protection of LGBT people in countries where they evangelise.

Not to defend the Jesusfuckers, but it's not like the Muslim parts of Africa are terribly nice to homos either.

More than ever, what Africa needs is a global uprising for LGBT rights.

      *Insert bad joke about limp-wristing.*

      1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

This is why holding American missionaries like Scott Lively and Lou Engle to account is crucial to the protection of LGBT people in countries where they evangelise.

What's fun is that Scott Lively brags about having influenced Uganda's "kill the gays" bill (and Russia's anti-propaganda bill) although he was disappointed with how it turned out. Also Martin Ssempa has modeled himself after Peter "Porno Pete" LaBarbera pretty exactly.

Both sides seem to want this to be true. The Livelys and LaBarberas on the religious right want to be seen as relevant and those who have an ax to grind with the religious right want to keep their bugbears.

        1. Warty   11 years ago

The noble savage aspect of this is hard to stomach. Without the horrible influence of my enemies, the beautiful peaceful Africans would still be living in peace and harmony, never hating anyone. Jesus Christ. What is it about fucking do-gooders that makes them unable to see people as people? Everything is a fucking morality play to them.

          1. Episiarch   11 years ago

It's because they're sociopaths. People are not people to them. They are cogs that if they can just get to run the right way, everything will be perfect. The only reason that things aren't perfect now is because someone else (wreckers, kulaks, you name it) came in and screwed things up.

          2. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

Eh, the whole thing is sad. Putin or Mugabe doing "God's work" by being bulwarks against the gay agenda is laughable and grotesque. The idea that Africa was ever any one thing (gender non-conforming paradise or not) is just as laughable. We like our broad strokes and simple narratives though so they carry the day.

            1. Zeb   11 years ago

Talking about Africa as if it is one place is always stupid. It has the most genetically diverse human population of any continent by far and is huge and very geographically diverse.

      2. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

but it's not like the Muslim parts of Africa are terribly nice to homos either.

Considering that Islam didn't originate in Africa, that would be colonialism too. Yet, when talking about the evils of colonialism, they never speak of the large swaths of Africa, Europe, and Asia that were conquered and colonized under the swords of the four major Islamic Caliphates.

        Funny, that.

        1. Warty   11 years ago

These people spend their lifetimes writing about how they hate themselves and thinly disguise it as hating their ancestors. TOTAL PROJECTION theory strikes again.

    4. Zeb   11 years ago

Oh, sweet merciful crap. Colonial powers did plenty to fuck up Africa, but that doesn't mean that it was all peace and rainbows before that.
I'm pretty sure anti-gay shit exists outside of Judeo-Christian-Islam type cultures.

      1. Agammamon   11 years ago

A ton of the stuff that is blamed on 'colonialism' is simply the normal reactions of extremely racist people who are forced to interact with each other. And the natural state of human beings is being extremely racist.

Before the Europeans created mega-states on the African continent these people live in smaller tribal nations and inter/intra-tribal power struggles didn't include 'others', reducing the stakes for not maintaining a hold on that power.

Same shit happens all over the world when you force these interactions - look at what happened in the corpse of Yugoslavia once the SU's iron grip was removed. Decades of forced resettlement and repression didn't create a homogenous culture, only created a pressure-cooker that exploded when the lid came off.

        1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

The SU? The Soviets? Tito defied them in the 40s.

        2. Zeb   11 years ago

There was some particularly horrible shit in Africa. But it's academic at this point. That's history. The idea that people are indebted to each other because of evils their ancestors committed is pure poison and a big reason why there is still so much bigotry and violence in the world today.

    5. Anonymous Coward   11 years ago

Only whitey can be racist/sexist/ageist/homophobic/specist because only whitey has developed the capacity for moral agency...oops.

Shriek wrote: "Also [Frazier Glenn Miller, Jr.* is] a GOP Neo-Nazi US Senate candidate in North Carolina 1986."

*F. Glenn Miller (the alleged shooter at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park in Kansas City, Missouri) tried to obtain the GOP nomination for Senate candidate for North Carolina, obtaining only 3.18% of the votes. He was NEVER a candidate.

    1. Zeb   11 years ago

How did he get any votes if he wasn't a candidate?

      1. OldMexican   11 years ago

        Re: Zeb,

How did he get any votes if he wasn't a candidate?

He was never the GOP candidate for the US Senate; he was just contending for the nomination, obtaining only 3.18% of the votes and losing to Rep. James T. Broyhill.

I mean, this isn't even my country for cryin' out loud, yet I can find these things easier than you gringos. What's the matter with you?

        1. Zeb   11 years ago

Well, he did say "a candidate" not "the candidate". Many people would say that running in the primary makes you "a candidate".

Champion of keeping a list of microagressions tells white people to quit taking being called racist so personally.

    And then there's this:

More to the point, the demand to be reasonable is a disingenuous demand. Black folks have been reasoning with white people forever. Racism is unreasonable, and that means reason has limited currency in the fight against it. Black folks understand, just like white folks do, that reason should be wielded as a tactic, not adhered to as a rule.

    1. Anonymous Coward   11 years ago

Black folks have been reasoning with white people forever.

      An assertion without proof.

Racism is unreasonable, and that means reason has limited currency in the fight against it.

So your best solution is fight irrationality with irrationality? To see who can break the most toys? Who can fling the most shit against the walls? And at the end, after you've burned down the world, the winner gets to claim his prize, right?

Black folks understand, just like white folks do, that reason should be wielded as a tactic, not adhered to as a rule.

So...you are not required to justify your ideas in facts or logic? Or you can, but if it goes against you, resort to the above shit-flinging and burning?

These people are fucking sick in the head.

    2. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

We better accept the inchoate and limited politics of those on the liberal left. Or else. Conservatives will take over the government. (Aren't they already running shit, though?)

Yes. Barack Obama is a conservative hero.

      1. Virginian   11 years ago

Barack Obama is a conservative hero.

According to the idiot Leftists on college campuses and the Internet, Obama is centrist or even right wing.

Because he actually hasn't nationalized corporations. Anything short of nationalizing corporations is right wing. But don't you dare call these people commies. That's a label, and thus bad.

        1. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

Anything short of nationalizing corporations is right wing.

That doesn't make sense to me. Guess I need a Vox explainer to lay it out for me.

They really have taken that classic Obama "some say X, others say Y, I say Z, thus Z is moderate and centrist and pragmatic" bullshit to heart.

^^This; This is also why the Repubs end up running probably the two worst candidates against B.O. in his two elections.

        1. Virginian   11 years ago

At 8,000 members, the KKK is insignificant and not a threat to anyone. I worry more about the Potoks of the world who are embedded in our illegal government and are spreading more hate and death than we could ever imagine. Just look at the poor Bundy family, who are about to be raided on their homes. The gov't doesn't want anyone ranching or farming anymore, they want us dead.
