You think I come here to read posts? That's cute. I come strictly for the comments.
I come here for the alt-text. Oh, wait...
I'm here for the alt-text-related points I am owed.
I second that. The level of snark really makes my day.

Let me think about it, no.

California State Sen. Leland Yee pleaded not guilty to corruption and gun trafficking charges today.
He'll have a hard time grabbing guns from a cell in Leavenworth. Fuck him.
This is delicious. I wonder if this will take some of the wind out of the 'grabbers' sails.
BTW, I was floored this morning to hear NPR report on this, with specific reference to his being a 'grabber.
I wonder if this will take some of the wind out of the 'grabbers' sails.
Every hearing on gun control should start with the bill's sponsors being asked:
"Are you now, or have you ever engaged in, gun trafficking with Muslim terrorists?"
Hey, he's a businessman. He's got to do what he can to keep his prices up.
He probably just thought, "If Holder can do it (run guns), so can I!"
Part of me hopes he was.involved in or had knowledge of the workings of Fast and Furious through his.connections and sings like a canary.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced today that the vote on the proposed minimum wage hike will not take place for three weeks.
Probably due to the KOCH BROTHERS
I wonder what his paymasters in Vegas pay the maid staff and other unskilled hotel workers.
Pish. You never pay illegals minimum wage. That's the whole point!
In Vegas you pay them in comps, just like you pay your Senators.
Free land for the honorable Senator from Nevada!!
Joe "No No he did not get free land he got no money down real estate contracts for land we already pre-sold to another buyer so all he got was the money from the difference between the contract and how much the pre-sold buyer paid. It was an investment. This is totally legit and legal and hey look over there at the corrupt Republican in the 1960s!!!"
Hey everybody. It's awareness day for people who don't understand statistics.

The scores:
Nil-nil.
Nil-nil.
Nil-nil.
Nil-nil.
FC and United advance nil-nil on aggregate after winning penalty shootouts.
Because there's only one goal scored a year on average. 😉
I remember back in the 70s, some British magazine did a study of the Spanish football league to try and find proof that Spain played the most boring football. They actually found two or three teams that lost every game of the season 1-0.
I'm all for equal pay for equal work. Trouble is, what does equal work mean? How is that defined? At my company and at my level, the pay disparities are significant and have to do with a lot of factors that may or may not have anything to do with gender.
How is that defined?
In my experience it is defined as 'what you do that I don't, but could if I would'.
For your pleasure, check out the parties that ran in Quebec last night.
Two stood out. 'A party without a party' and 'Mon pays le Quebec.'

I lol'd. I guess the voters held a similar oppinion of the PQ as I did (or a large number of them.)
disclaimer - despite living near Canada, I've never visited that country. I didn't want to clean out my car enough to not have to worry about the DHS creeps on my way back.
FFlawless feminist logic
Kukowski goes on to reiterate the usual conservative talking points that blame women themselves for being paid less, because "women and men hold different jobs in different industries and varying levels of experience." But if the problem is just that women, in aggregate, are worth less, then why is there an objection to greater transparency? Indeed, if you're confident that women are making less because they deserve less, you should welcome a federal database that has experience, title, and gender data in it. After all, won't it just prove your point?
Sure, there's always the danger that greater transparency will show that women are not being paid the same as men commensurate with their titles and experience.
Who says titles and experience should dictate how much you are paid? I would think how much you actually work and how productive you are would count more.
Just my 'mansplation.
How dare you suggest diiferent people produce different quantities and quality of work.
you should welcome a federal database
What could go wrong?
Holy shit.
Because they will misapply those stats just like they do all others.
Please, Even at a government job, everyone called an IT Specialist Y is going to have a different pay rate from the others with the same numeral, it really depends on your negotiating unit. (Right now in NY, M/Cs are getting screwed over in the equal pay for equal work field)
And you know what the effect is on the employees? Everyone works down to the lowest common demominator because the added effort isn't rewarded.

There was a 60 year old dude out by the pool today wearing a thong. In what part of the world is that acceptable?!?
Eastern Europe.
Eastern Europe.
Or just Europe....and jJapan
India, China, Africa...
Makes me love Latin America sometimes. Where showing man skin is considered unmanly....
Well except Brazil.
I thought you guys were tolerant of that shit in California?
Apparently not. There were over 1000 lounge chairs at the pool area, all of them taken. Except for a few rows around this guy.
So his DGAF-get-off-my-lawn attitude works exactly like it should!
I was kind of wondering if the guy was trolling.
Why are you against gender and age equality?
More feminist concern-trolling. This time by Joan Walsh
So why doesn't every capitalist just fire all the white guys and hire black women?
You think Joan has her knickers in a twist that men pay more for auto insurance?
No, because when there's a "gap" applicable to whites or men, it's just a fact. Any other "gap" and it's discrimination.
Walsh is a horrible person and a complete sexist. If she is angry about anything it is that men are even allowed to drive in the first place.
Nursing home routinely hired strippers for patients
"Grandma, no one's stealing your money! Well, not really."
What if the patients wanted it?
Those strippers are out there every day doing God's work.
The Walkin' Dude awakes, grinning the dark somewhere.
Who is suing over that? What kind of a monster would want to deprive nursing home patients of strippers?
P Brooks, I'd guess. :-p

Steven Hayward is a professor of Conservative Thought at the University of Colorado in Boulder. As for Professors of Liberal Thought...well, they're too many to have a separate title.
Here's a quote/paraphrase from the Chairman of the Faculty, Professor Paul Chinowsky, referring to Hayward:
"He said if the university expects its students to respect diversity, the faculty members need to show their support for inclusion and a welcoming, safe campus....
""We have an obligation to really support all members of the community here, and if we're not, then what are we saying to the students?""
Of course, these remarks were in support of *disciplining* Hayward. For what? For this online article, which criticizes "gender-bending diversity mandates" -
http://www.powerlineblog.com/a.....bender.php
There is at least some faculty skepticism about discussing Hayward's case. Said one prof: ""The moment we come out and say something, no matter how nicely we state it, 'While we respect diversity of opinion, at the same time we have a responsibility to uphold the dignity ?' as soon as we engage in this, he's going to spin this as, 'There you go, I was attacked by the liberal faculty at CU.'""
http://www.dailycamera.com/cu-.....ism-steven
"While we say we respect diversity of opinion, we only really respect opinions we like".
There, fixed it for you, Professor.
We need to respect diversity while ruthlessly enforcing total ideological conformity.
got it.
Repressive Tolerance
Diversity is all about superficial things, like color, sexual orientation, gender, not about fundamental things like ideas.
Sandra Fluke masters the art of politicking: fuck nuance, WE MUST DO SOMETHING!!!
And she's probably going to win. She better send Rush a fruit basket or something.
That is unacceptable, and something I will work hard to change when I'm in office.
How will she have time, what with all the gun running she'll be doing.
Lovely, a national joke writ large.
To be fair to her, she can't possibly lower the mean IQ of congress by more than 20 or 30 points.
You know, back in the last century, they didn't accept that many morons into Georgetown.
"If Republicans in Congress want to prove me wrong, if they want to show that they in fact do care about women being paid the same as men, then show me. They can start tomorrow. They can join us in this, the 21st century."
That's all well and good, Mr. President. But what about pay equality for *animals*?
Archie will die in upcoming issue, in demise that creators call 'very heroic
Um, okay. So it'll be all about Jughead from now on?
Actually, this is part of a speculative fiction line of Archie comics that they're going to be ending; in the regular Archie world he's going to go on living.
So they're killing Fake Archie? How is that newsworthy?
If he doesn't come back to life three issues later, it actually would be a newsworthy death for a comic book character.

Holder fucks with perennial dumbass Louis Gohmert today:

Eric Holder Wishes Critic 'Good Luck With Your Asparagus' After Testy Exchange
Good to know you look up to and respect a man like Holder. Even though you do it eery single day, we really can't be reminded enough that you are in fact a fascist.
The guy should have asked Holder if he had sold any guns to any Mexican drug gangs today.
We already know that about this mindless trollbot. There is no need to feed it.
Gohmert: Perennial dumbass who makes a dumbass remark.
Holder: Attorney General of the United States who lies to Congress and purposefully withholds documents that have been subpoenaed.
PB: HA HA ISN'T HOLDER FUNNY FOR MAKING A SARCASTIC REMARK?
It wasn't a dumb ass remark. It was the truth. Holder doesn't give a fuck that he was held in contempt. Holder has no respect for Congress or any other institution. And he never will.
That fact should be thrown in his face every time he appears in public. Holder should never be allowed to even pretend he is anything but the contemptible piece of shit he is.
Weigel is just doing his paid job of being a JournoList (dicksucker for Obama and the democratic party).

used his executive power today to sign two directives aimed at ensuring that federal contractors pay women the same as men for the same work.
I'm curious:
What statute gives the President this power?
What statute gives the President this power?
Isn't is just wrapped up under powers the executive branch has? Such as rescheduling drugs, changing NSA domestic spying policies, ending DADT, ending extra-rendition, ending murder-droning, etc, etc, etc?
Okay, okay, to be fair, Ms. Fluke does have some ideas that have totally never been heard before:
Equality is being liberated from making life and family planing decisions.
I think it's also notable that despite European countries heavily investing in child care and passing laws mandating paid leave for parents, the birth rates are still declining.
And the "pay gap" remains.
Guess Who wrote these remarks?
Called for the" abolition of the police, the army, and the bureaucracy" and for "the salaries of all officials, all of whom are elective and displaceable at any time, not to exceed the average wage of a competent worker"?
We set ourselves the ultimate aim of abolishing the state, i.e., all organized and systematic violence, all use of violence against people in general
##While the State exists, there can be no freedom. When there is freedom there will be no State.
Marx. Marxist Utopia is anarchy. This is why so many anarchists are just confused leftists.
Funny how hopelessly naive that is and look what his efforts wrought.
BigT, if you're out there: I posted some info on a patent that is pertinent to the "seawater fuel" link we talked about earlier.
I guess they use a pervaporation system to recover CO2 dissolved as bicarbonate in seawater at their carbon.source. then they use a novel catalyst to hydrogenate the CO2 and then do RWGS as you suggested, then, Fischer-Tropsch their way up the chain of alkanes to cetane or so.
db, thanks. I'm in R&D. I have 50+ US patents to my credit, and many more overseas. So I read/write these things all the time. I wish at least one of my patents was being used commercially, but alas, not.
R&D is where you can be wrong 99% of the time and still be a huge success. Actually, shutting down stupid/infeasible projects is a very valuable service since it can save a lot of cash.
Thanks for the reply. I think.if.I won the lottery I'd set up a lab and fool around with this.sort.of.thing. As it is, I'm stuck with whatever they pay.me to.do (which can be pretty fun sometimes).

DNA analysis suggests Hitler might have married a Jew before committing suicide
DNA analysis of hair samples from a hairbrush claimed to belong to Eva Braun, Hitler's long-term mistress who married the Nazi dictator hours before their joint suicide, are said to contain a specific sequence passed through the maternal line which hints at Jewish roots.
The sequence of mitochondrial DNA belongs to haplogroup N1b1, which is strongly associated with Ashkenazi Jews, who make up around 80 percent of the global Jewish population.
"This is a thought-provoking outcome ? I never dreamt that I would find such a potentially extraordinary and profound result," Mark Evans, presenter of Channel 4?s documentary series "Dead Famous DNA," said.
Bought by Evans for $2,000, the strands of hair came from a brush monogrammed "E.B." that was found at the end of World War II at Hitler's Alpine residence, the Berghof in Bavaria, by an American army intelligence officer.
Braun was 17 when she first met Hitler in 1929 and fell in love with him. Concerned the relationship would affect his image, the Nazi leader, 23 years her senior, confined Braun to a sheltered life at the Berghof.

Florida pastor of mega-church resigns owning to 'moral failings'
The senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale resigned after confessing to cheating on his wife, which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church.
Bob Coy reportedly confessed to key leaders that he cheated on his wife Wednesday. A board meeting was called the next day, when he resigned.
Coy, who has led the church since its founding in 1985, said he will now focus his full attention on his personal relationship with God and his family.
"The governing board of the church is providing counselors and ministers who will help guide him through the process of full repentance, cleansing and restoration," a statement read.
A churchgoer was brought to tears as she spoke to Local 10 about Coy's resignation.
"I'm very sad, but, you know, we're all sinners," she said.
Assistant pastors who are on staff will continue their usual rotating schedule as teaching pastors for all services, a statement from the church said.
The question is did he confess out of guilt or was he caught? Haven't found an answer that that yet.
