The Most Shocking Checkpoint Refusal Video You've Ever Seen
Checkpoint refusal videos, in which citizens assert their right to be left alone when stopped and questioned by Department of Homeland Security officers, are all over the internet. Check out this compilation video by Matt Mills, which was a finalist at last year's Reason Media Awards.
But you won't believe the checkpoint refusal video we released last week.
Nor should you.

OK, now it's obvious. The M/W is not about raising wages, it's about punishing business owners:
"If your business cannot afford to pay a living wage, either you're too greedy or your business simply is not needed. Close up shop and get out of our city."
http://www.sfgate.com/politics.....379511.php (first comment)
Puts people out of work? Who cares? The business owner has gotten his comeuppance!
It's a sad judgement on progs when their great ideas force out the mom & pops that they then whine about the box stores taking over.
I don't know if you've noticed, but it's awfully convenient that their own policies create more of the "problems" that they claim the power to solve, and use that as justification for force and more laws and regulations. Amazingly convenient, isn't it?
To do that intentionally would require admitting, even to themselves, that their policies do more good than harm. I don't give them that much credit. They really do believe that they are helping the workers by taking away jobs that don't pay what they feel is a high enough wage. They don't see it as a choice between a crappy job and no job. They see it as a choice between a low paying job and a better paying job. They are paving the road to Hell with their good intentions.
*harm than good*
Well, it's a coalition of two types: people who are too dumb to realize the consequences of their beliefs (lifelong Dem. voters, hippies, people who post lefty shit on Facebook, etc.) and those who realize it fully, but are evil enough to take advantage of the situation (e.g., Al Gore, Paul Erlich, Paul Krugman, etc.).

"Well, it's a coalition of two types:"...
Fools and knaves, all wrapped up in one lefty cause!
I really don't think he is in on it. I actually got the chance to talk to him at length (about 20 minutes) in 2006. He's a window-licker. I mean like forgetting to breath without a reminder level of stupid.
The fact that he has made millions (billions?) from his schtick is like The Jerk in real life. He didn't even exhibit the kind of dumb animalistic cunning that many lawyers/politicians usually have.
How much of his fortune was made by planting tobacco with his own two hands?
I met him too while I was at Memphis State. I totally agree with you. If his dad hadn't been a senator, Al would have been aspiring to living in a double wide somewhere in Tennessee.
I certainly have.
The folks losing jobs as a result of this will end up on the taxpayers' dimes and so the idjits behind this will claim we need more welfare.
Vicious circle.
The M/W is not about raising wages, it's about punishing business owners
No, it's not even that. It's about making progtards feel good about themselves by forcibly preventing the least-skilled people from having any jobs at all.

Evangelical Atheists celebrate converts:
"American Atheists President David Silverman is traveling to Utah to deliver a speech and welcome the newly freed atheists to the atheist community and personally invite the participants to our 2014 national convention,"
YOUR Atheism may not be a religion (*rolls eyes*) but what do you call this?
A moron who's trying real hard to make a really stupid point, but he doesn't realize he's a moron, and he fails at making his stupid point?
Shh, don't interrupt him when he's making himself look unbelievably stupid. It's the best part.
God, you're as tiresome as Bo with his SoCons.
People form ski clubs. It doesn't make it a religion.
Ski clubs don't celebrate winning converts away from snowboarding.
And as an atheist, I don't belong to a ski club.
Tell ya what SIV, you go right on believing whatever stupid shit you want. You can smear shit on yourself, for all I care.
Finally got to the 2048 tile with a high score 21688.

what are you on about?
Google "2048".
Ah but what about the 4096 tile ?
I've gotten to 512. But I've only been playing for 4 hours.
Less than 2 hours!
I'm so excited.

While we're at it, SF proggies are really setting the world on fire:
""We demand that Google give three billion dollars to an anarchist organization of our choosing," the post said. "This money will then be used to create autonomous, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist communities throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. In these communities, whether in San Francisco or in the woods, no one will ever have to pay rent and housing will be free."

$3Bn?! Pikers! See Obo for some real numbers!
And, yes, some of the commenters are dumb enough to support it.
+1 anarcho-syndicalist commune
I wanna take a turn acting as a sort of executive officer of the week, so long as each decision I make has to be ratified by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs or a 2/3 majority in all other affairs
You know, it would be worth some amount of money to build a compound out in the middle of beautiful nowhere, attract them all there with freebies and then leave them there. No cars will have been allowed and then the wireless comms go out and since there's no land lines to fall back on they can neither call or drive for help.
Can we place landmines around the perimeter?
And how about some spread around the inside, just for the fun of it?
Back in my hometown they used to hold an event where they'd stick a longhorn cow into a 10'x10' enclosure and mark out a grid. You'd pick one of the squares and if the cow took a shit on it you won a prize. This would be the same sort of thing, but with hippies.
So here, we set up some stands, sell the seats and bet on how long it takes for a hippie to wander into the 'magic square'?
I like it! Especially the 'launching' of the hippie!
It's called Burning Man, but they keep escaping.
Can we use Madagascar for this purpose?
I support this. If we allowed leftists to open a syndicalist commune in the woods, three months from now there would be fewer leftists and some very well fed bears.
California health department and zoning would shut them down.
If they get to choose who gets the money, that's not anarchist.
Wait, they say they're service sector workers who make money off the tech-workers but they want the tech-workers gone?
Who, exactly, are you gonna serve that double-milk mochaccino to then?
I like this one.
I'm not too familiar with Northern Cal, but aren't there already a bunch of anti-capitalist communes out that way?
Sacramento.

BTW, one of the commenters raises an interesting point:
The Fire Fox CEO was publicly identified for his contributions; why aren't the 'protesters' identified for contributions in kind?
Living in SF, I'd be happy to hang signs on the rent-controlled apartments they occupy.
""We demand that Google give three billion dollars to an anarchist organization of our choosing," the post said. "This money will then be used to create autonomous, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist communities throughout the Bay Area and Northern California.
Doesn't that community already exist, and isn't it called San Francisco?
I found a genuine case of anti-atheist persecution. You're welcome.
Not only did the village of Stoke Poges win the cherished Most English Village Name competition,* but it has a Sikh school to which the government educational authorities have assigned local non-Sikhs.
"The school promotes strictly vegetarian meals, prevents pupils from bringing meat or fish in packed lunches, provides lessons in Punjabi and Sikh studies, promotes meditation and begins the day with prayers from Sikh scriptures....
"In a statement, the school said it was run with a "Sikh ethos but inclusive to all", with non-Sikh pupils not required to learn Punjabi and allowed to worship separately in a multi-faith prayer room."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/edu.....chool.html
* Not really.

"I found a genuine case of anti-atheist persecution. You're welcome."
You didn't try very hard:
"What are the four states that atheist are not allowed to hold an office in?"
"AR, MD, MA, NC, PA, SC, TN & TX all have laws against athiests holding public office."
The four states seem to count 8
http://www.chacha.com/question.....-office-in
These laws are unenforceable thanks to the US Supreme Court:

Notorious G.K.C.|4.6.14 @ 7:51PM|#
"These laws are unenforceable thanks to the US Supreme Court:"
So as an atheist, all I have to do is take the state gov't to court?
Why, that's not persecution at all!
Fail.
They no longer enforce these laws. Don't take my word for it, apply to be a notary public or something.
And you're upset because I posted a story about religious persecution against atheists? Because I didn't post the *right* story?
No offense, but you're something of a suspicious sort.
I'm confused - there doesn't seem to be a lot of anti-atheist anything in that story.
If anything its about parent complaining that not only did their precious kids not get into the school they wanted but got forced into a school that the parents wouldn't have chosen voluntarily in a million years.
Its more anti-government-controlled-school than anything.
"there doesn't seem to be a lot of anti-atheist anything in that story."
Well, the headline was "Row as atheist pupils are sent to vegetarian Sikh school."
And there is this passage:
"One father, an atheist, who asked not to be named, told how his 10-year-old daughter had been allocated a place at the school even though he selected two other neighbouring comprehensives on an application form.
""We are horrified," he said. "It's very much a Sikh school with Sikh values. I'm not religious and my daughter is just going to be lost in a school like this."
Another said: "We're not a religious family so it's clearly inappropriate for our children to be educated at a school with an overtly religious ethos.""
But none of that is actualy what I'd call *anti*-atheist. Just some atheists who got caught up in typical government idiocy.
Notorious G.K.C.|4.6.14 @ 8:01PM|#
"They no longer enforce these laws. Don't take my word for it, apply to be a notary public or something."
So I get to hope some crusading prosecutor will read your post and give me a pass? Sorry, still a fail.
And, no, I'm not upset about the 'right' story; it's about your claim you found 1 (one) case of persecution.
/sarc off
I keep my atheism to myself because when I don't I get shunned.
/sarc on
"your claim you found 1 (one) case of persecution."
When, right below this story, I post a story about Saudi Arabia's law?
I have to say you're easily offended. I had actually entertained the hope that by posting a couple articles about the persecution of atheists, I might have gotten your interest in a positive sense.
And I seem to recall posting an article about a report from (IIRC) an international atheist group about worldwide anti-atheist persecution. Not to beat my own horn, but I don't think this was covered in Reason (unless it was in Reason 24/7).
But you seem fixated on the idea that I cannot possibly care about the persecution of atheists because I am a right-wing bleever neo-fascist. Can't we all just get along?
Can't we all just get along?
Not after your advocacy of enforcing "alienation of affections" and "criminal conversation".
Don't forget Intentional Interference With Contractual Relations:
http://www.justia.com/trials-l...../2201.html
"I have to say you're easily offended"
Not my intent and think you're being defensive.
All I did was to point out how ridiculously easy it is to find cases of gov't strictures on non-belief in what is one of the most enlightened countries. And what I got back was excuses about how they really didn't mean it, if I didn't really make a point of it.
Does Germany still pay the church from taxes?
To your last question, I believe it does, but I don't know the details as to division among Catholics, Lutherans and others.
And I was a bit surprised that when I linked stories from the UK and Saudi Arabia about mistreatments of atheists, your response was "aha - what about the US?" and claim I only cited one example of anti-atheist behavior (I gave two, and it was I who at an earlier point linked the report of worldwide anti-atheist persecution).
The statute books are littered with laws which are unenforceable because the courts have declared them unconstitutional. I'll grant that from time to time someone tries to revive one of these laws, but it's not the "gotcha" point you seem to think it was.
"(I gave two, and it was I who at an earlier point linked the report of worldwide anti-atheist persecution)."
I missed that; point taken.
"I'll grant that from time to time someone tries to revive one of these laws, but it's not the "gotcha" point you seem to think it was."
If it were, say, a law against GOPers holding office, I'd bet you'd be less blase' about it.
Laws on the books are subject to selective enforcement and if that doesn't chill speech, I don't know what would.
"If it were, say, a law against GOPers holding office, I'd bet you'd be less blase' about it."
If you cited a couple of articles about anti-Republican Party laws and someone responded with angry accusation that you were overlooking the persecution of Republicans, maybe you'd be a bit offended.
The school principal, Rose Codling, has also insisted that the academy's strict vegetarian policy was implemented on health grounds, not because of the Sikh faith, telling a local newspaper: "You only have to follow the publicity concerning scandals around cheap quality meat, horsemeat, BSC, chicken and salmonella, to understand many people's concerns."
The UK is a totalitarian shit hole.
Don't be hyperbolic. Its only moderately more authoritarian than the US (not excusing either, just pointing out that both have a decent ways to go before they're actually *totalitarian*), and neither is it a shithole.
Well, mostly.
Here's one:
"LONDON: Saudi Arabia has introduced a series of new laws which define atheists as terrorists, according to a report from Human Rights Watch."
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.....135020.cms
Whoo-hoo!
Goddamned right we're terrorists. We make the religious face the existential terror of a universe with no purpose.
..."We make the religious face the existential terror of a universe with no purpose."
AAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
Not to harp on this or anything, but by 7:40 I had two posts up about anti-atheist persecution, yet at 8:10 you said you were offended by "your claim you found 1 (one) case of persecution."
OK, that's cleared up above, thank you.
In these communities, whether in San Francisco or in the woods, no one will ever have to pay rent and housing will be free.
Hurray!
$13Bn don't sound "free" to me.
And I can imagine the fights breaking out over who gets the dough among the people who don't care about filthy lucre.
Don't you already not have to pay rent in the woods?
You *do* have to keep an eye open for vicious law enforcement agents who will shoot you dead for the crime of camping where its not allowed by Top Men.

"Don't you already not have to pay rent in the woods?"
When White Indian/Mary was posting, we got sympathetic posts by those who claimed it was much easier to live 'back when' since you could shot and fish for your food, chop trees for shelter, etc.
Idiots. Guns and ammo were not at all cheap at the time, nor reliable. Fishing? Think there were straight-pins to bend into hooks? And axes didn't grow on trees, so to speak.
Weird that the less experienced romantic types treat simple capital goods like they're the bounty of nature rather than the culmination of technologies that took hundreds of years of discovery and refinement. As though cutting wood with a steel ax head that required the spontaneous market coordination of tens of thousands of different people from miners to smelters to vendors is somehow more natural than using a chainsaw.
"Weird that the less experienced romantic types treat simple capital goods like they're the bounty of nature..."
I'm waiting for the next round of 'sympathetic' posts that claim you could have used google maps to locate the pristine sites!
See? It's right here on my computer in my Early American computer hutch!
Allowing the public to use "their" land without permission? What are you, some kind of anarchist?
it would be worth some amount of money to build a compound out in the middle of beautiful nowhere, attract them all there with freebies and then leave them there. Wasn't that the point of Burning Man?
Burning Man has an almost 100% survival rate so no.
Such a poorly named gathering - not a single person on fire to be seen during the whole thing.

Looks like a very popular idea.
They keep using the word 'arcology'. I do not think it means what they think it means.

GODAMMIT.
Let's also not forget that HBO's 'Veep' returns tonight.
I did forget. Thanks.
"New research promoting the benefits of male circumcision has come in for a drubbing from a New Zealand child health expert....
"... Kevin Pringle from the University of Otago, Wellington, has criticised the authors for the evidence they have chosen to use to back their claims.
""The most worrisome aspect is the emphasis on possible diseases that are reported to be significantly more common in the uncircumcised population and the complete lack of any attempt to accurately document the risk of the complications of circumcision," says the professor of paediatrics and head of obstetrics and gynaecology in an interview with the Science Media Centre."

I do believe that woman is using some Photoshop.
Either that or her torso and ass are grotesquely out of proportion.
Fucking priceless:
A bench-clearing brawl broke out during an annual charity hockey game between the NYPD and FDNY on Sunday at the Nassau Coliseum.
I wonder if the cops were screaming "stop resisting" like bitches as the FDNY pounded them.
I'm betting NYPD started it.
I don't know, I bet they're total pussies when they don't have their 9mm's at hand and blanket immunity when shooting everything in sight.
They should have advertised the fight beforehand, though, they would've raised a lot more for charity. I know I'd pay at least $100 to watch the NYPD and FDNY beat each other mercilessly. Now, when is the IRS vs. NSA hockey brawl?
This was in an episode of Rescue Me, right?
No serious injuries?

It used to be a thing but like with gas station attendants the minimum wage killed the concept.
Well, then you just have to get the state to make it mandatory. Worked in Oregon and New Jersey...
"If atheists truly want a power struggle for the right to be intolerant, Christians will eventually engage and win."
