Cheneys Attempting to Mend Fences with Al Simpson
Public falling out over Liz Cheney's Senate bid
The Cheney family is trying to mend fences with former Wyoming Sen. Al Simpson, a longtime family friend, after their very public falling out over Liz Cheney's Senate bid.
Liz Cheney called Simpson's daughter, Susan, on Sunday night to let her know that she planned to drop out for family reasons and to let her parents know. Simpson, 82, called Liz Cheney back directly on Monday morning.
"She's doing the thing she felt she must do as a mother," said Simpson. "It was a very wonderful conversation today that I had with Liz. She told me about the situation and why she's doing it. She's doing the right thing, in her view, as a mother."
