Does George Zimmerman's Fight With His Girlfriend Cast Doubt on His Acquittal?

Yesterday George Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, claimed he aimed a shotgun at her during a fight. Here is part of the 911 call that Scheibe placed at 12:30 p.m. from her home in Apopka, Florida:
Scheibe: He's in my house breaking all my shit because I asked him to leave. He has a freakin' gun, breaking all of my stuff right now. [To Zimmerman:] I'm doing this again? You just broke my glass table, you broke my sunglasses, and you put your gun in my freakin' face and told me to get the fuck out…This is not your house. No, get out of here.
Dispatcher: OK, where's his weapon at?
Scheibe: He just put it down. [To Zimmerman:] Get out of my house. Do not push me out of my house.
Zimmerman: I didn't push you, Sammy.
Scheibe: Will you please get out of my house.
Zimmerman: Calm down.
Scheibe: Are you serious right now? Are you fucking kidding me? [To dispatcher:] He just pushed me out of my house and locked me out.
Zimmerman denies brandishing any weapons. He claims Scheibe was the one who flew off the handle and broke the table. He says she became irate when he started packing his things to move out after she informed him that she was pregnant but wanted to raise the baby on her own. (Scheibe says she is not pregnant.) When police arrived, about four minutes after Scheibe called 911, they found Zimmerman calm and unarmed.
This incident is reminiscent of a fight that Zimmerman had with his estranged wife, Shellie, in September. She initially claimed he had threatened her and her father with a gun but later admitted she never actually saw a weapon. The police concluded there was insufficient evidence to charge Zimmerman.
People who are already convinced that Zimmerman's shooting of Trayvon Martin was not justified will see these two incidents as further evidence that Zimmerman is an aggressor who is good at playing the victim. And if he really did threaten his ex-wife or his girlfriend with a gun, that suggests a disposition consistent with the conclusion that he acted more out of anger than out of fear when he shot Martin.
Still, the prosecution did not come close to proving that claim beyond a reasonable doubt at Zimmerman's trial. On the whole, the evidence indicated that Martin started the fight and that he was on top of Zimmerman when the shot was fired. Furthermore, Zimmerman's injuries were consistent with his report that Martin punched him in the face and knocked his head against the pavement. That does not necessarily mean Zimmerman reasonably believed shooting Martin was necessary to prevent death or serious injury. But to win an acquittal, all the defense had to do was make that scenario seem plausible. If it seems a little less plausible in light of Zimmerman's subsequent domestic squabbles, that does not mean the jury erred. After all, even an asshole can act in self-defense. We will never know for sure whether Zimmerman really did, but under our system of justice he rightly benefited from that doubt. And it should go without saying that any crime Zimmerman might commit after his acquittal cannot possibly make the right to stand your ground retroactively relevant to his defense in the earlier case.

Should Orenthal James Simpson's erratic post acquittal behavior call into doubt the criminal jury's finding of not guilty?
I can't wait to read Zimmerman's version of If I Did It...
For me, the answer to my question is.........yes. Why? Nothing concrete, just the manner in which OJ carried himself. Yes, I thought he should have been acquitted.
They really should allow a third verdict of "not proven guilty" for cases where the prosecution hasn't met the burden but the defendant looks guilty as hell. IIRC this is actually how juries work in Scotland.
Sort of like "the ruling stands" vs "the ruling is confirmed" in the NFL.
Why would that matter though? Is there any actual legal distinction?
No. The whole point is that the government has failed to meet its burden. Whether we think a defendant is really guilty or really innocent means nothing, legally, if the prosecution fails to prove its case.
Dont they also have found innocent? Not guilty IS not proven guilty. You mean we need a proven innocent option, but that runs the risk of allowing double jeopardy for "not proven guilty".
The 28th Amendment: Trayvon's Amendment
The 12 provisions below will work to make America a more safe place by eliminating the obviously failed experiment that is the second amendment.
The second amendment of the Constitution of the United States, being no longer necessary to a secure state is hereby nullified.
The production and sale of new firearms, being defined as a rifle, pistol, or other gun, will be disallowed until a time in which the number of firearms in circulation is equal to 50% of the population as determined by the Census.
No gun may reside in the same building as anyone who has failed a mental health evaluation, as performed by a medical professional, as approved by the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare).
A mental health examination, as performed by a medical professional approved by the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) must be passed in order to receive a firearms license.
An income tax equal to 4% of an individual's income will be assessed by all gun owners. In states which were at any point in time a part of the Confederate States of America, this tax shall be equal to 10% of an individual's income. Taxes levied under this amendment shall be appropriated in equal portions to programs to expand Affirmative Action programs and begin to pay reparations to the descendants of African slaves.
There's more insanity in the other provisions.
There's more insanity in the other provisions.
Yeah...the free "Skittles n Tea" codicils seemed a bit much!
Really....who goes through the mental exercises required to post this drivel? The president had his head handed to him the last time he rolled the dice on gun control and he had a whole stack of children's bodies to perch upon while he pontificated.
-he had a whole stack of children's bodies to perch upon
Those were white kids, totally different.
At least the drafter of this proposed amendment is literate enough to understand the meaning of the Amendment II and has a modicum of respect for the Constitution.
That's a lot more than you can say about most advocates of gun control.
I don't think someone who proposes punishing the gun owners in a certain section of the country for completely past historical reasons (collective guilting FTW!) more than the rest of the country has much of a respect for the Constitution.
He just sounds like an insane KULTUR/REGION WAR asshole gun banner.
I think what CatoTheElder is getting at is that they at least realize that the 2nd Amendment would have to be nullified by an Amendment to the Constitution to get what they want, unlike many gun control proponents who think statutory measures accomplishing the same are allowed.
Obviously the drafter of the amendment is an asshole. It's just that he's more literate and more respectful of the Constitution than the typical gun controller.
You would have a point if he hadn't written this:
President Obama will establish a Secretary of Firearm management. This office will have final say over future gun regulation to prevent against rampant innovation that was not forseen by the second amendment.
The president can't establish a government agency. Congress would have to pass an enabling statute explaining the limits of that agency's power. You also couldn't write 'President Obama' into an amendment because it would no longer make sense when Obama was no longer president.
My favorite part though:
Yeah! Fuck private property! You have to let U.S. Marshals onto your land even if they have no warrant!
The president can't establish a government agency. Congress would have to pass an enabling statute explaining the limits of that agency's power.
Well, if the constitutional amendment says he can, he can. it would trump anything in the previous amendments or articles.
You also couldn't write 'President Obama' into an amendment because it would no longer make sense when Obama was no longer president.
Future prezzes wouldn't have to establish it again once BO establishes it.
In states which were at any point in time a part of the Confederate States of America, this tax shall be equal to 10% of an individual's income
Are you sure this isn't a joke? Because this is too insane to be real.
Once again the border states get off scot-free!
But how would West Virginia be treated?
Read his rule: since the land that comprises West Virginia was at one time part of the Confederacy, they gotta pay. Don't you know how collective guilting works?
I just checked this with wikipedia. The Confederacy was formed 4 February and adopted its constitution on 11 March. Virginia voted to secede on 17 April, voters ratified that on 23 May. I did not see a date for admittance to the CSA. West Virginia held a convention 13-15 May which scheduled a second convention for 11 June, and was admitted to the Union on 20 June.
So there is a sort of quibble, seeing as how WV began the secession from VA before VA seceded from the Union, and there is no date for VA being admitted to the CSA.
I just found another web page which says Virginia was an independent republic until it joined the CSA on 19 June.
So I'd say West Virgina was independent from Virginia from 11-20 June and bever was part of the CSA.
Doubly insane when coupled with this:
As written, it is eminently possible that the majority of the South's population would both be taxed 10% as eeeeeeevul Confederate gunowners *and* be subsidized by the above Affirmative Action program.
(What percent of African do you have to be to qualify as a descendant of an African slave, anyways?)
One drop.
Right, so the whole damn South, then (whether they'll admit it to themselves or not).
Maybe we can get Craig Cobb in on this deal.
That sort of thing would almost certainly kick off our second civil war. Given how blatantly abusive the proposal is, I can't imagine it having any other intent.
There's also the problem that SCOTUS ruled all the secession declarations to be illegal, unconstitutional, null and void -- so legally speaking no state was ever part of the CSA, they were all part of the US during the war.
Even if they found some circumlocution to do what they want, the status of AZ, NM, OK, (controlled by the Confederacy early in the war) and especially WV would be pretty murky.
An income tax equal to 4% of an individual's income will be assessed by all gun owners.
Hehehehehe. That doesn't mean what they think it means.
Shhh, don't enlighten them. If they pass that as written, PROFIT!

The only comment there:
Poe's law?
Brilliant satire...though he shows his cards with the contact email for
"hate mail".
The website is now down. But yeah, I'd say this has to be some guy trolling the gun rights groups.
I found it in my Facebook feed.
Am I the only one who things this is satire?
-Does George Zimmerman's Fight With His Girlfriend Cast Doubt on His Acquittal?
For a previous and separate charge? Of course not.
I will also note that currently Zimmerman has only been charged with, not convicted of, the current allegations. Which makes my of course not even stronger.
"Does George Zimmerman's Fight With His Girlfriend Cast Doubt on His Acquittal?"
I don't know, but I think we better ban assault weapons just in case.
Given that you're 6,000 times more likely to bekilled with an assault car and 18,000 times more likely to be killed by an assault doctor than by an assault weapon, maybe we could ban those too, just in case?
Scheibe: He's in my house breaking all my shit because I asked him to leave. He has a freakin' gun, breaking all of my stuff right now. [To Zimmerman:] I'm doing this again? You just broke my glass table, you broke my sunglasses, and you put your gun in my freakin' face and told me to get the fuck out...This is not your house. No, get out of here.
I'm calling fake.
Concur, especially after the cops got there and found him unarmed. Sounds like a classic case of "I'm calling the cops and they will believe me, not you."
Isn't that every single fucking domestic violence call that involves a man and a woman?
It is a priori.
Something similar happened to me the last time I had roomies. Call the cops and lie, lie, lie was cheaper than buying out my portion of the lease.
He had a gun and didn't use it. That points more to his innocence in the original case than his guilt.
Regardless, just as the measure of freedom of expression is how it treats abhorrent speech and abhorrent political stances, the measure of the protection of the law is how it treats people who are abhorrent.
I agree. This incident may also shed light on the sort of jerk-like behavior that might have inspired Trayvon to want to beat the guy senseless, but it in no way "proves" that Zimmerman's pulling the trigger was unjustified/not in self defense.
Missed where he had a gun. Quoting above says cops found him unarmed.
I was wondering about that. I haven't read the linked stories, but did someone recover a fucking gun from the scene?
During the call she said he put the gun down.
Still should be able to "recover" it. But would be consistent with a woman lying to the dispatcher.
An income tax equal to 4% of an individual's income will be assessed by all gun owners.
I like this one! A lot!
Just wait ... in a few years ObamaCare will allow insurers to recover the medical costs of gunshot wounds by imposing higher premiums on gunowners.
First, the premiums of young males had to subsidize the old and the females.
Next, the premiums of smokers had to "pay their fair share".
Why shouldn't gun owners have to pay higher premiums, if you think like a progressive?
Dude, I'm pretty sure I've heard proposals from gun banners that include some kind of "gunowner fee" to pay for the victims of gunshots. Seriously. They're already there, don't worry.
No one else has noticed the "by" in that quote?
Of course I noticed it, but I know what he meant, so being pedantic is pointless. Yeah, he's a dope who goofed up what he meant. That takes a back seat to his insanity.
I thought it was a tell that he was spoofing.
It was the first thing I noticed. I was wondering why only 4%.
I stand by my earlier comment: the drafter is still more literate than the typical gun control nut.
At the same time we could also push for a Helpless Victim Tax that would penalize people who refuse to defend themselves and call the police for help instead.
Look, freedom isn't free. That's why each American should pay a use tax each time he or she exercises any enumerated right. Like commenting on a blog or carrying a gun.
OK, what if Zimmerman were doing this ('you put your gun in my freakin' face and told me to get the fuck out'), and his girlfriend stood her ground and shot him. Can you imagine the punditry commenting on that?
Nice catch. Victim of domestic violence defends herself against violent hispanic man.
Eh; if he threatened her with a gun and she defended herself, it'd be a good shoot.
Sounds like the story is falling apart, though. Apparently he was unarmed when police showed up.
That wouldn't have been Stand Your Ground either since it was in her house. Not Castle Doctrine either since he wasn't an intruder. Just plain old self-defense.
Lemme see if I got this right.
Zimmerman broke up with his wife, and he got together with this woman after he was already famous.
*doing math*
One point not yet made is that given the national awareness of Zimmerman's situation, he is easily taken advantage of by people who threaten to call the cops unless he complies. I am not suggesting that happened here, merely that it is one other consideration to keep in mind.
*still doing math*
The math, Paul, is that Zimmerman makes really, really bad relationship choices, it seems. I mean...if you're not abusive or violent and you're involved with a woman who will call 911 on you for any reason, UR DOIN IT WRONG.
I agree. If I were, like you, the most hated man in the nation, you can bet I'd be very careful who I shacked up with. With whom I shacked up. Yeah, still sounds right.
Exactly. That's why all the women I date are either some kind of mail-order bride, blind, or sex slaves. I can't be too careful!
Carl: Oh, man. I cannot wait. I got the oils, the candles, the works! When does that babe get here?
Master Shake: Carl, don't refer to her as a "babe", please. She is a Chechnyan prostitute, and you will address her as such.
Carl: Look, just don't cash that check immediately. I wanna make sure that both of us marryin' her is gonna be, you know, legal.
Master Shake: Of course it is! What are you kidding me? Santa Claus ain't legal and he's around.
Carl: Well, I guess that makes sense, uh, you know.
Exactly. That's why all the women I date are either some kind of mail-order bride, blind, or sex slaves. I can't be too careful!
Mail-order brides are the worst.
Step one: Marry gullible American, get on fast track to citizenship.
Step two: Claim domestic violence. Get shady family members to corroborate the claim.
Step three: Immigration law allows woman to remain in country if her marriage ends by DV.
Happens all the time. No joke.
No, no, no. It's "up with whom I shacked."
/Winston Churchill
I've made a remark on Yahoo News:
Zimmerman needs a girlfriend like a fish needs a net.
It scored 45+ and 4-.
Good point.
I can't really judge this case until someone reports the ethnicity of the girlfriend and the 911 dispatcher.
No.
After all, even an asshole can act in self-defense.
It's a mystery why, compared to everyone else, assholes generate bad will, and sometimes have to fend off attacks.
No. He was acquitted of the murder because the state had poor evidence and couldn't overcome reasonable doubt. He admitted to killing Trayvon Martin and he will have to answer for that with his Maker (if he believes in one), regardless of whether he truly believed he did it in self-defense. Justice was done in the case; that's that. Those people who demanded a guilty verdict have no clue how the criminal justice system works.
However, it does seem like he is just starting to push his luck with the law.
And God will quite likely have no problems with what Zimmerman did. God made a commandment against murder, but not all killing is murder. The King James Bible commandment that killing is forbidden is a mistranslation.
However, it does seem like he is just starting to push his luck with the law.
It seems he is unable to stay out of trouble. That will at some point end up in front of the wrong judge and the wrong jury.
Has anybody ever considered that maybe -- JUST MAYBE -- this guy probably shouldn't be allowed to have a gun? He seems a little... crazy (allegedly).
Until that crazy becomes fact as opposed to "allegedly" neither you nor I have grounds to limit his right of self-defense.
What if he lives in one of the states which were at any point in time a part of the Confederate States of America?
It would be funny if being unjustly imprisoned by headline-hungry prosecutors, and assraped and otherwise abused by other inmates led to him being too crazy to own a gun -- wouldn't it?
Or maybe a media lynch mob made him crazy. I bet a million grams of silver he would not have done this had there been no trial.
No, it doesn't cast doubt on his acquittal. Scumbags are innocent until proven guilty the same as any other man, woman, or Episiarch.
It's called a Florida break-up. Move along.
Since I ***YAMS*** The SQRLSy One, after all, I MUST bring out an old re-cycled nut:
The OTHER part of the truth (Martin threw away the sword and the pistol by his side, before he died, and the cops never found it, bumbling fools that they were), but here is the REAL truth:
Martin went a fartin',
And he did ride,
With a sword and a pistol
By his side,
Lookin' for a "creepy ass cracker"
To help him eat his skittles,
So when he couldn't find his spittoon,
He spit instead in his shittooon,
And shit instead in his spittoon,
While the cow jumped over the moon,
And the dish snorted coke with a spoon,
And we'll all know the truth real soon!
I liked you more when you were telling me that I wasn't an American because I have filthy Irish blood in me.
Damn right you stinking mic.
Heck, we are ALL Africans, if modern science and the mitochondrial DNA from "African Eve" is to be believed? Which is why I check off "mixed race" on the census forms, since I am also part space alien, as far as I can tell from my lack of understanding of what it consists of, to have "common sense" among the mere mortals of the Earthlings here? So then, yer bein' an un-Amerikkkan whiskey-drinkin' Irishman? All is forgiven, my friend? I am toastin' to yer? Jees-um, what is the proper insult? Mikey-Butt, right now? Bottoms up! Dude!
I say off with the losers head already!
http://www.Privacy-Web.tk
I'm pretty sure he shot Kennedy.
what his later behavior does, if anything, is give the people who can't accept the verdict -and other things- a way to say "i told you so!". not that they're correct, mind you, it's just that they have to go somewhere with their anger and/or need to be right.
"Does George Zimmerman's Fight With His Girlfriend Cast Doubt on His Acquittal?"
No.
And to be frank, it's a logical fail to ask it.
As for Zimmerman, something is fishy. He seems to get into the news a bit too much. One would think he'd disappear to never be heard of again. Yet, trouble follows him; or he follows it.
Hm.
/Puts beanie on, spins propeller with flick of finger, licks finger and sticks in ass, takes out calculator.
To be fair, he's third-act Alex DeLarge at this point. Everyone's going to try to take advantage of him because they can.
Is he supposed to remain single and isolated for the rest of his life? Probably a good strategy given the current landscape, but not an easy one for a guy who didn't choose that lifestyle to begin with.
That Anthony chick may be available. Though I strongly suggest that he not father any children on her.
Or in her!
No kids, either way. If he wants kids, he needs to hook up with another, lesser pariah.
I have to say, when I saw that story ... earlier today, or maybe yesterday, not sure, I started thinking that this is just too surreal. First the fight with his x, and now this, both times the accusers saying he has a gun threatening them?
Something is not right here. Either Zimmerman really is a nut of a loose cannon, or he is being set up. Sounds conspiracy, but this shit is just too weird. There are a lot of people, and some very powerful people, who are extra butthurt over him being aquitted, and I can definitely see someone trying to set him up.
If this guy is not nuts, he should just try to disappear from society and start a new life someplace, because otherwise, eventually, he's going to find himself back in some real trouble.
I'm beginning to lean being set up.
I'm leaning towards terrible taste in women. He wound up with an attention-seeking whore who is using him for publicity.
Stand your ground was not relevant to the Zimmerman case, so it's not relevant here.
George Zimmerman needs a theme song =

This does not prove anything except the atrociousness of the crime prosecution system (not justice system). The life of this man was destroyed by proceedings and the media-Sharpton lynch mob. None of this should have ever taken place and the race baiters should have shut up and gone away. Now the poor man is broken and depressed and people are surprised he wants to bash things. Its no excuse really, but I think its mitigating. He needs help. His girlfriend even admits that. He needs to get a job and move somewhere far away and restart his life.
