I don't get it. Fish don't ride bicycles. This is NOT funny.

    /progcultist

    1. Doctor Whom   12 years ago

A better prog answer would be "You just don't know that you need it, which is why Top Men need to inform you, and also, you need to buy it to keep prices low for those whose votes we need to buy who deserve our help."

      1. cavalier973   12 years ago

But fish really don't NEED bicycles. People DO need affordable health care administered by the government, else we would have anarchy in the health care market, and people would DIE.

A funny cartoon would have had the fish out of water saying he doesn't need water, when he really does. See, that would make more sense, because it would represent how stupid you anarchists are, who think you don't need health care, when you really do.

        /progcultist

    2. Stephdumas   12 years ago

Here in Quebec, Canada. We use the term "poisson", a French word mean fish as a counterpart to the word sucker who also design from what I saw on the Free Dictionnairy website:"Any of numerous chiefly North American freshwater fishes of the family Catostomidae, having a toothless jaw and a thick-lipped mouth adapted for feeding by suction."

      1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

We use the term "poisson", a French word mean fish

        Hey, Canuckistani!

I've seen The Little Mermaid. You don't need to tell me what poisson means, asshole.

      2. KDN   12 years ago

        Dictionnairy

I hope this isn't a simple typo, because I just want to say that I love the habit of native French speakers intentionally and repeatedly putting double consonants in words that don't require them. It's one of my favorite things about any Quebec related thread on hockey boards.

    3. David Wall   12 years ago

      It WAS very funny.

      Are you stupid?

Fish out of water: The bicycle is the individual mandate--a government intrusion on individual liberty. IT will carry society (the fish) out of water and to its destruction.

Now that you forced me to explain it, it's not funny anymore. But it had to be done, I guess.

      1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

        No you dork.

The bicycle will force the fish to evolve into a land animal where it will replace humans and ultimately reach it's evolutionary pinnacle. Just as socialize medicine such as Obamacare will help humans reach their full potential.

        1. Agammamon   12 years ago

Its a commentary on the genesis of New Soviet Man!

      2. ReasonableS   12 years ago

It would have been better if the bike was made entirely out of bells and whistles with the fish saying

"My underwater scooter didn't comply with the Affordable Care Act so I had to buy this land bike. It is more affordable, but it is made out of only bells and whistles. It doesn't work."

    4. Dr. Kenneth Noisewater   12 years ago

The ironic thing is Obamacare mandates drive transferring even more dollars from males into servicing the increased medical demands of females. So the feminist fish is actually leeching off the bicycle even more!

  2. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

i didn't laugh, but i didn't groan, so this must be accounted a triumph for Bok

    1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

We are lining up the triumphal chariot, parade route and legion to march with as we speak!

      1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

Don't forget the slave whispering in his ear "Remember, you are usually only as good as Henry Payne"

        1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

Indeed - if that does not bring him back down to Earth....nothing will.

  3. Jaybirdmojo   12 years ago

    Political Cartoons

  5. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

I will give this much credit - I could at least figure out what was meant to be the joke this time.

    1. CampingInYourPark   12 years ago

Now I can't figure out whether you're implying the cartoons are not clear or if you're admitting to being dim witted. Opacity for the win!

      1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

If it makes you feel better to believe you're smarter than me, go with that one. If you realize I was ragging on the track record of unfunny cartoons, you might have hit upon the truth. It's early yet, and my wordsmithing isn't at its best in these morning hours.

        1. CampingInYourPark   12 years ago

If it makes you feel better to believe you're smarter than me, go with that one

Nah, I was just razzing you. No need to go all Jonathan Martin on me. I apologize.

          1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

            I fail troll.

            🙁

            1. CampingInYourPark   12 years ago

There are a lot of other bridges to live under. Don't give up yet.

            2. Almanian!   12 years ago

              can't tell if unserious

  6. Fist of Etiquette   12 years ago

Death panel at Long John Silver's.
    _____

Q: Why did he make you buy that?

    A: For the halibut.

        First (joke of its kind).

    2. Ted S.   12 years ago

This isn't the plaice for bad fish puns.

      1. gaijin   12 years ago

would they be ok if I included some typos?

      2. gaijin   12 years ago

You're just being shellfish. Or maybe they are too deep. Can't you fathom it? For what it's worth, Bok seems to be under a lot of pressure.

      3. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

        Fugu you

        1. Almanian!   12 years ago

Why are you being so crappy? If you want to carp about this, that's fine - he who dealt it smelt it. If you can salmon the courage to put your enemy's head on a pike, your puffer-y might all be worth it. The sunfish will come up tomorrow, and if others are bluegill with envy, they might skeedaddle like a catfish on a hot tin roof.

          1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

            i'm just floundering

            1. wareagle   12 years ago

I'm brimming with anticipation over the next word play that bubbles up.

              1. Rich   12 years ago

Or that comes down the pike.

                1. gaijin   12 years ago

Hey chum, we're all guilty of somefin, right?

                2. Fatty Bolger   12 years ago

No mora! If I keep herring these puns, I might have to gill myself.

                  1. PaulW   12 years ago

I disagree, we dolphinately should continue. If anyone has more puns, let minnow.

          2. Francisco d Anconia   12 years ago

            Okay

            1. Entropy Void   12 years ago

I knew someone would have to do this ... Thank you, Frankie.

  7. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

That one was actually decent, I think, because of the allusion.

  8. Fatty Bolger   12 years ago

Those are clearly fish, that is very clearly a bicycle, and two of the fish are obviously swimming in water. In other words, as Bok cartoons go, this is an artistic masterpiece.

  9. SugarFree   12 years ago

But what if the the fish and bicycle had a child? It wouldn't be covered under your old crappy plans that you've been told you you don't actually like. WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE FISHCYCLE CHILDREN?!?

    1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

opponents of gay marriage predicted this very outcome, but did we listen?

      1. cavalier973   12 years ago

And now I have to hire a fishcycle at my florist, against my religious beliefs, and MY CUSTOMERS ARE LEAVING!!!

        1. Neoliberal Kochtopus   12 years ago

I think fishcycle should now be the stand-in for all minority jokes. Like "Canadians" was back in the 1990s.

          1. cavalier973   12 years ago

Q: How many fishcycles does it take to screw up a lightbulb?

            A: Three! Hilarious!!

            No...wait. I told that wrong.

Q: WHY does it take three fishcycles to screw up a lightbulb?

            A: BECAUSE THEY'RE SO STUPID!!!!

            hahahahahahah!!!!!

            1. Almanian!   12 years ago

Q: Why did the fishcycle cross the road

              A: For moar free shit

              HAHAHAHAHAHA!

              Also - fried chicken.

              1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

Q: Why did the vagina smell like fish?

A: Because it was riding a fishcycle!

    2. Neoliberal Kochtopus   12 years ago

Fishcycle children are only cute when they're babies.

    3. Slammer   12 years ago

Fishcycles only get created when you hit a fish and a bicycle with a bus.

      1. Pope Jimbo   12 years ago

You got fish on my bicycle!

My bicycle was ridden by a fish!

Reeses GM Motors introduces the fishcycle

    4. Auric Demonocles   12 years ago

Oh come on, how would a fish and a bicycle even have a kid? That can't happen....Unless.... What if they got hit but a bus?

      1. Pope Jimbo   12 years ago

I hate to agree, but if there aren't any BritCars (and they've been trying hardNSFW) there probably ain't going to be any fish cycles.

And it wouldn't even be good fish pr0n either. It would just be a shallow depression full of bikes which is then doused with fish sperm (probably from a helicopter). How many hits on YouPorn is that going to get.

  10. Lord Humungus   12 years ago

The best cartoon I've ever seen... on Reason... which isn't saying much.

    1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. I would even go so far as to say it was fairly clever.

      1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

Whoa, whoa whoa! Let us not go too far, all at once!

  11. cavalier973   12 years ago

That fish needs to have a helmet. Kids might see this cartoon and think that it's safe to ride a bicycle without a helmet.

    1. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

      Nicely done.

      1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

It has my stamp of approval.

    2. DontShootMe   12 years ago

      Bravo!

  12. Almanian!   12 years ago

    Sucks. Therefore - perfect.

    Happy Friday, Reasonoids.

  13. Almanian!   12 years ago

Also, this is pretty clearly a treatise in pen and ink about the death of Lou Reed, which is also the death of Civilization As We Know It.

Matt Welch has a three-part miniseries on Reason.tv about it.

*lights fishcycle incense and downs another shot of whiskey*

    1. Rich   12 years ago

      fishcycle incense

      Nice band name.

  14. Rich   12 years ago

Why can't a bicycle stand up by itself?

    It's too tired!

  15. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

    Um....NEEDZ MOAR LABELZ?

    1. UnCivilServant   12 years ago

"Water" "Fish" "Shore" "American Public" - Sprinkle on cartoon as desired.

    2. Auric Demonocles   12 years ago

Alt-text is a kind of label... so yes.

  16. The Late P Brooks   12 years ago

    Abnormally non-horrible.

  17. Spoonman.   12 years ago

Yeah, but what if the fish gets hit with a bus?

    1. Auric Demonocles   12 years ago

      Hmmm.... timestamp inconclusive...

  18. Eduard van Haalen   12 years ago

Bok was funny? (Consults Book of Revelation) uh, oh...

  19. Pompey   12 years ago

Why is The Creature From The Black Lagoon/hermaphroditic alien lover of Dennis Quaid from Enemy Mine riding a bicycle? And why in the devil is it talking to fish????

  20. Swiss Servator, I got nothing.   12 years ago

Its 8:02 - no AM Links - did the intern hit the snooze button one too many times?

  21. johnl   12 years ago

    This is funny.

  22. BFawlty   12 years ago

You shouldn't make fun of fish.

  23. Libertarius   12 years ago

"See, the evil insurance companies and the Koch Brothers made the fish think it didn't need a bicycle, but it turns out that they just didn't want to pay for it!"

    /progtards on facebook

But seriously, I'm still seeing this "your insurance was crap anyway" non-argument trotted out by the leftoid sheep on facebook. Are these people really this fucking stupid, that they just mindlessly repeat whatever the other leftoids are saying?

  24. wingnutx   12 years ago

My last pay check was 9500 dolr working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out.

  26. Rach   12 years ago

    Funny double play:

"A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" -- Patricia Irene (Irina) Dunn

This cartoon is both lampooning that statement, and Obamacare; One of the provisions of Obamacare is for Single MEN to pay for abortion, birth control, and maternity services to defray the costs women need to pay.

I say it is a great political cartoon.

    1. don quixote   12 years ago
