UN Envoy Says Syria Talks Are Impossible if Opposition Does Not Show Up
Rebels want Assad to resign before the conference
International envoy Lakhdar Brahimi is making a fresh appeal for Syria's divided opposition to attend a proposed peace conference.
Speaking in Damascus on Friday, Brahimi said it would be impossible for the long-delayed Geneva talks to take place without rebel participation.
"The Syrian government ensured its participation in the conference. The opposition, whether the coalition or other parties, are still seeking a way to be presented in the Geneva conference," said Brahimi.
