Thousands of Bay Area commuters were bracing for the prospect of a disorderly commute Friday morning after transit workers at the nation's fifth-largest train system walked off the job for the second time this year after a midnight deadline to resolve contract negotiations passed without a deal.

Officials from both unions representing workers for Bay Area Rapid Transit as well as the agency itself confirmed the strike, the Associated Press reported
