The French Senate has banned beauty pageants for those under 16. The bill must be passed by the National Assembly before becoming a law. Proponents of the measure say such contests sexualize minors.

    What's wrong with sexy miners?

  2. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

Organisers of such pageants may face a jail term of up to two years and a fine of 30,000 euros (?25,000; $40,000).

The first rule of Pageant Club is that you don't talk about Pageant Club.

  3. Mickey Rat   12 years ago

Is France weird now about what it considers right and wrong?

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   12 years ago

      France is just weird.

      Quarrelsome bunch.

  4. SomeGuy   12 years ago

is it just me or do pageants for little kids creep you out?

    WTF!!!!!

    OMG WTF ROFL!!!

      It's like someone photoshopped a obese middle-aged woman's head onto a six-year-old's body.

    2. Matrix   12 years ago

      Yeah... that is disturbing. *Shudders*

I can just see like a small group of them staring an adult down with their dead eyes as they slowly approach. I can even see a ginger one singing "la la lalala la la lalala".

      Oh god! It's horrible! _

    3. Robert   12 years ago

      You are not alone.

You're getting this from someone who also coaches children in contests wherein the outcome is determined by a combination of their physical attributes and their prepar'n: football. And yet somehow when the contest is about "Look at me!" instead of a game, it creeps me out. Even child cheerleading doesn't creep me out as bad as this, because although cheerleading is also about "Look at me!", it's more like dancing.

    sexualize minors

wouldn't that still be the case here at 16?

I know some countries allow certain legal rights before majority, or sometimes align them with age of consent, or have a separate age of sexual majority.

    1. Rich   12 years ago

Not just "sexualize" -- "hyper-sexualize", which I understand is even worse than "ultra-sexualize".

  6. Lady Bertrum   12 years ago

Where does Roman Polanski live? Right, France.

So, sexualizing minors is fine as long as you do it privately and make sure to annually rape them. cool.

    1. WTF   12 years ago

Yeah, make sure they get it once a year.

      1. Zakalwe   12 years ago

The reported surge in interest among married women in trying annual sex makes a lot more sense now.

        1. Lady Bertrum   12 years ago

          anal sex annually? not even.

        2. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

          Annual sex is over-rated.

          1. Lady Bertrum   12 years ago

            TMI

            1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

              Subtlety ain't your strong point.

              1. Lady Bertrum   12 years ago

                TMI?

                1. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

                  Okay, that made me laugh.

                  1. Lady Bertrum   12 years ago

                    😉

          2. Zakalwe   12 years ago

Does Nicole know she's now our expert on annual sex? I expect she'll be annoyed.

    2. Snark Plissken   12 years ago

It's not that the French condone rape, it's just that flipping the US the bird is more important that prosecuting famous European directors for rape. BTW, the demonisation of poor Polanski by some members of the left (obviously not Whoopie) is what forced poor Carla Bruni to the right.

  7. Rich   12 years ago

"Let us not make our girls believe from a very young age that their worth is only judged by their appearance."

Isn't that why these pageants have a "talent" segment?

  8. ElCiD   12 years ago

And yet the age of consent in France is 15...

  9. Rufus J. Firefly   12 years ago

Is it me or was Gomez of the Brewers kinda acting too much like a punk the other night against the Braves? McCann meeting him before he touched home plate after the dinger was classic. Don't think I ever saw a brawl start off that way.

    1. Mongo   12 years ago

Gomez apologized profusely after the game.

Too bad he still isn't playing for the Twinks - he was entertaining.

    2. Old Man With Candy   12 years ago

McCann deserves a good beating. Someone called him "Bobby Hill," and that's a perfect description.

  10. A Secret Band of Robbers   12 years ago

    The fuck is wrong with:
    1) beauty pageant people
    2) the French

    1. Sevo   12 years ago

      "2) the French"

They're hypocrites; notice how they won't extradite Polanski, and yet pageants for kids are icky!
