Photo of Cop Sleeping on the Job in America's Most Violent City Prompts Investigation

Caught napping in Camden, New Jersey

(Reuters)—A photo of a police officer in Camden, New Jersey, apparently asleep in his cruiser has prompted an investigation in the U.S. city with the nation's highest violent crime rate in 2012.

The photo, which shows the uniformed officer wearing sunglasses, head cocked back and mouth agape in the driver's seat, began circulating on Camden-related Facebook pages this week.

  1. Seems to me if a cop is sleeping, that’s a bit of evidence Camden is marginally decreasing the violence level…

    1. Hush, my darling, don’t fear, my darling,
      the lion sleeps tonight

  2. Everyone knows doughnuts are loaded with L-Tryptophan.

  3. I’m ok with this. I’d rather them be catching some ZZZs than kicking some poor bastard’s teeth in for looking at them funny.

  4. Cops get tired just like anyone else. From what the story said, they (the county police) have been doing a better job of reducing the crime rate than the city cops did and they’re working 12 hour shifts. I’ve worked 12 hour shifts before in high-stress jobs and sometimes you just have to grab a nap to stay functional.

And I’d rather they catch a little sleep on the job instead of going without and overreacting because of stress and exhaustion and making problems worse. As long as it isn’t a habit and as long as they aren’t screwing up at the job because of it, not really a big deal.

  5. Reserving judgment. That’s something I seldom do on the internet, so that’s big.
