Senators Make Deal To Avert "Nuclear Option"

Senators have reached a tentative deal to avert the "nuclear option" on filibuster rules.

Under the proposal, which the White House has not yet agreed to, President Barack Obama would pull two nominees to the National Labor Relations Board — Sharon Block and Richard Griffin — and replace them with two nominees who could receive Senate votes quickly

Votes on the other five nominees would be allowed to go forward – including Cabinet nominations such as Gina McCarthy as EPA administrator and Thomas Perez as Labor secretary.

The first rule of politics in any pluralistic system: "What goes around, comes around." The Republicans contemplated the "nuclear option" back when they were in the majority, but now I'm betting every member of the Rep caucus gets down on his knees and offers up a prayer of thanks to any deity he may believe in that they didn't pull the trigger, at least once a day.

The good news? The very fact that the Dems are even considering such a thing suggests that their days in the majority are numbered. Pride goeth before a fall, and talk about a "permanent majority" goeth before big losses.
