NC Approves Charter School Rules

The independent schools gain in popularity

A bill creating more rules to govern a growing number of public charter schools in North Carolina but omitting the creation of a powerful panel to oversee them has passed the House.

The House voted 96-14 Monday on the additional changes for charter schools. Now the bill returns to the Senate.

Senators passed a version earlier that included a new board separate from the State Board of Elections to approve and close schools and set other policies.
