CNN Won't Renew Paula Deen's Contract Over Controversy
Probably over racism and not excessive reliance on butter
Celebrity chef Paula Deen's contract with The Food Network will not be renewed, the network said Friday, the latest fallout over revelations this week that she admitted to using a racial epithet in the past.
Deen's contract with The Food Network, which airs three shows featuring the chef, expires at the end of the month, the network said.
The Food Network's announcement followed reports earlier this week that Deen acknowledged in a lawsuit deposition to using the "N word," but denied telling racial jokes.
It also came the same day that Deen apologized in video statements posted online for "the wrong that I've done."

She admitted to using the "n-word" in describing a robber who placed a gun to her head at the bank she worked at in the 1960s.
And the fact that she chose to describe him by a racial slur instead of calling him "a thieving violent asshole thug" or some sort, says a lot about her.
When did she say it? in the 60s?
I may be mistaken but isn't Paula Deen the reason the Neely's are on Food Network? If she really was racist I don't think she would have given them a chance.
If you say so. I think it says whatever the listener or reader wants it to say.
And the fact that she chose to describe him by a racial slur instead of calling him "a thieving violent asshole thug" or some sort, says a lot about her.
I grew up in the '60s. It wasn't thought of as a racial slur then, at least among kids. My best friend for a couple years (before we moved away) was a black kid and so far as he ever said, he didn't think a thing of it.
And for that matter, have you ever heard black folks talking to each other? You can't tell me a bunch of them don't call each other by it.
Hell, they call themselves that.
Remember Trayvon Martin's own nickname? No limit n-word?
Agatha Christie used it a lot, I'm shocked no one had called for a boycott for her. (Presumably because she also hated Jews, which is good among the left)
And the fact that she chose to describe him by a racial slur instead of calling him "a thieving violent asshole thug" or some sort, says a lot about her.
It says she is human. For all we know she is every kind of racist but in her deposition she admitted to telling her then husband, in private, that the fucking nigger stuck a gun in her face.
That alone isn't "racist" if the armed robbery happened yesterday.
So that is a controversy? Oy.
(But.. but... where am I going to get my recipes for butter fried butter?)
There's no such thing as "over-use" of butter, short of causing a stove-top grease fire.
Full disclosure: I had sirloin steak in butter sauce earlier this week.
Melt a bit of butter in olive oil; brush the steak before you put it over the hot coals. Instant searing and flavor.
My personal favorite method for cooking a thick sirloin steak starts with brushing it with coconut oil and butter. Season with pepper and seasoned salt, then grill for ten minutes per side over charcoal. Keeping the lid on the Weber keeps the flames out.
Can't find it, but I'm damn sure there was a southerner, advisor to one of the PBS series on the civil war, caught (on tape, I believe; it was that long ago) referring to some black guy as 'nigger'.
He got a pass; he's a documented, tenured, liberal twit.
BTW, no comment on PD's issue; that's between her and the other parties to her employment contract.
I don't know and don't care.
The late great Sen. Byrd or another ridiculous democrat?
If it was the late Shelby Foote he wasn't a liberal or a twit.
It was. I think he was recalling a conversation or a story and used the exact words of another.
I have read his "Civil War: A Narrative" more times than I can count. So entertaining.

"If it was the late Shelby Foote he wasn't a liberal or a twit."
You are correct; I was confusing him with Burns.
Niggerbutter!
Times indeed were different then. When she was being raised in Georgia in the 40's and 50's, I'd imagine the adults taught her the n-word as a part of normal speech. Was a grammar-school-aged child supposed to know it was wrong?
If that contemporary use of the word is why she's being criticized, then that's a shame.
Many of my elder relations (older than Deen and signficantly more rural) use the word casually and without malice. They're aware that other people find it offensive, but they view that as a ridiculous modern oversensitivity to a benign and common word. When I've asked them why they use it, they always reply with some variant of "well, that's what they are" in the same spirit that an old-timer might explain why he uses negro instead of African-American.
If a young person uses the word in its modern meaning, have at them in the same spirit that we attack "liberals" and "progressives" who have destroyed those words for all decent human beings. But hurting the financial prospects of a seasoned citizen used the n-word forty years ago to describe someone who threatened her life? Fuck off. The critics' persecution is vastly more offensive than her use of the word.
The problem with "African-american" comes with describing non-Americans. Evidently this is not just me. Wasn't it President Clinton who end up calling Nelson Mandela a great African-american"?
"Wasn't it President Clinton who end up calling Nelson Mandela a great African-american"?"
If it wasn't, it shoulda been!
just as Shawn replied I didnt even know that any body able to make $8625 in four weeks on the computer. did you see this link
http://WWW.JOBS34.COM
I would totally click that link but you said nigger a bunch of times in the past.
KhimkiForest dot com. You will care.
For another angle on that controversial word, watch John Lennon on The Dick Cavett Show defending his choice to record "Woman is the Nigger of the World" in 1972.
On that note, why does Patti Smith get a free pass?
She'd not southern?
The Food Network's announcement followed http://www.versandhermes.com reports earlier this week that Deen acknowledged in a lawsuit deposition to using the "N word," but denied telling racial jokes.
Let's see, the last three guys I hired into senior positions in my research group were a raghead, a spic, and a chink. No niggers or fags yet, but none of them have applied.
Guess this means I'm an irretrievable racist, despite being a kike.
Why are people so afraid of words?
Why are people so afraid of words?
They appear to believe in magic.
Betelgeusebetelgeusebetelgeusebetelgeuse!
Haven't you heard, Old Man? The mere utterance of this silly sounding word, so evil that one cannot speak its name even for the purpose of explaining why it is so unspeakably evil, offsets the rest of one's life. No matter how proper, how fair, how decent one has otherwise been, no matter what good one has otherwise done in the world, it is all offset by the mere utterance of that one word. Context, provocation, intent ... they are all irrelevant. You spoke the word; you must be extirpated from society.
Thoughtcrime. Doubleplusungood.
my friend's mom makes $66 hourly on the laptop. She has been laid off for 8 months but last month her income was $21305 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Here's the site to read more.... http://www.CNN13.com
I absolutely dont care about PD. Her 15 minutes of fame seems to be centered on a joke, and the joke is past old.
But she was asked under oath if she had ever used 'nigger'. sure was her response. any one in a America care to answer that question.....truthfuly?
Cast the first stone and all.
