Is it churlish of me to point out that Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz, in addition to singing like a wounded warthog, makes a taxpayer-funded salary of around $178,790 per year? Probably! At any rate, at least one person in Koretz's district is living the dream:

What would be the Gen X equivalent of this? Getting elected councilman and then declaring it official Lou Barlow Day? Asking for a friend.

Not at all.

In fact, we are told, Mr. Koretz could be earning so very much more if he went into the private sector. So this $178k salary is a huge sacrifice. I thank him for his service.

Dave Davies plays guitar, Lou Barlow plays bass. Now, the Kinks are considered one of the "big four" of the British Invasion, including the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the Who. Also, Dave Davies unlike Lou, played in the same band his entire career. So an apt comparison would be to find a guitar player, that played in the same band his entire career, that could be considered a "big four" for Gen X'ers. I would posit that Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and say, Wilco would be a decent big 4. Discuss.

Maybe Green Day, so it would be like declaring Billie Joe Armstrong day.

Ahh but Davies is a Limey and as such the Gen X analog should also be a Limey. Which leads me to bands like The Cure, Joy Division, The Prodigy, and Stone Roses depending on where you place the generational brackets.

For Limeys it would be the Cure, the Smiths, Depeche Mode, and New Ordet? Maybe Echo & the Bunnymen? Oasis?

That's all bracketing it pretty early though. If you eliminate those born before Gen X then The Cure and The Smiths are out with frontmen born in the late 50s. Depeche Mode should definitely be in there but just barely. New Order members are too old as are Echo and the Bunnymen. Oasis definitely makes the age cut though.
