Warns against arming rebels

The MEP has been updating his followers on Twitter on a visit to the Middle East. He crossed the border into Syria yesterday after spending a day in Lebanon, according to his account.

Calling Damascus a "modern, bustling city", he compared security to that of Belfast during the Troubles, and aside from "occasional explosions" in the distance, said life in the Syrian capital was "normal".
