Embattled New York Assemblyman Resigns
Embroiled in sexual harassment scandal
Once powerful Brooklyn State Assemblyman Vito Lopez is now officially out of a job.
His resignation took effect this morning at 9 a.m.
Lopez announced his decision in a brief letter over the weekend as it became clear he could face expulsion from the Assembly if he did not immediately resign.
Two separate investigations found that he sexually harassed staffers. However, today's resignation may not be the end of Lopez's political career.
