Had People Voted at 2004 Rates Romney Would Have Won in 2012

According to William H. Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, Romney would have narrowly won the presidential election in November last year had people voted at the same rates they did in 2004. In 2012, African Americans voted at the higher rate than any other minority group. Frey's analysis is the latest indication that the Republicans need to figure out how to attract minorities to the GOP if they don't want a repeat of 2012 in a few years time.
From the Associated Press:
WASHINGTON — America's blacks voted at a higher rate than other minority groups in 2012 and by most measures surpassed the white turnout for the first time, reflecting a deeply polarized presidential election in which blacks strongly supported Barack Obama while many whites stayed home.
Had people voted last November at the same rates they did in 2004, when black turnout was below its current historic levels, Republican Mitt Romney would have won narrowly, according to an analysis conducted for The Associated Press.
Census data and exit polling show that whites and blacks will remain the two largest racial groups of eligible voters for the next decade. Last year's heavy black turnout came despite concerns about the effect of new voter-identification laws on minority voting, outweighed by the desire to re-elect the first black president.

So what you're saying is that if we just increase the fraud rate in Red areas to what it is in Blue areas, the GOP will win next time?
I think they are saying that if whites voted as racistly as blacks the GOP would have won.
Or that alt-text was related somehow.
White Republicans voting for a white Republican = Perfectly sensible and completely objective choice. Black Democrats voting for a black Democrat = Racism!!!
It is such a puzzle why the GOP doesn't get more black votes.
I wasn't aware that 95% of whites voted for Romney, or that they turned out in record numbers for the elections against Obama.
They didn't, but trolls gotta troll.
Not to mention the disturbing subtext that minority votes are some how not as valuable as white votes, and thus that Obama is somehow cheating by winning without having to go after the "real" votes.
More strategery, that's what the GOP needs!
Your lying is sadder than your tears.
And if frogs had wings, they would bump their ass when they jump...
wouldn't. dammit. EDIT BUTTON!
it works either way.
I approve of your call for an EDIT BUTTON, but I am confused by your phrase.
It's an old redneck saying that basically amounts to "what, at this point, does it matter"
The assumption being that IF a frog had wings, it could gently flutter to the ground instead of bumping it's ass every time it jumps. But, frogs don't have wings, so they'll just have to deal with it.
IF a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump it's ass a'hoppin'!
Romtopia was within our grasp! It was the non-believers that ruined it for the rest of us!
A write-in for Ron Paul is a vote for Jill Stein.
When you ride alone, you ride with Hitler.
I ride with Hitler. For breast cancer.
I ride with Hitler. Because his car is awesome.
that is an awesome car.
Expected this, was disappointed.
It's amazing that some people still think it matters.
I think you meant to say:
"What difference, at this point, does it make?"
a deeply polarized presidential election in which blacks strongly supported Barack Obama while many whites stayed home.
And if those damned race traitor white people had voted for Romney...
*sigh*
Three more years of this shit.
Thanks a lot, White people!
Hey, you'll never be as kickin rad as that kid.
Hey, I gleamed the cube, back in my day!
Folks, it's STILL Romney; we don't care.
Obviously Republicans should have tried to get Obama on the Republican ticket. Then they would have had a shot.
So, if Romney hadn't been such a shitty candidate, Romney might have won?
But then you'd have to get Republicans to stop talking about rape and vaginal probes in liberal media interviews (because apparently they can't figure out how that one's going to end for them).
Or it could also be an indication that if the Dems want to win every presidential election for the foreseeable future they should run a black man. Regardless of what his actual policies are once in office.
They should force black folk to run for president.
Yeah, they could totally make them their slaves...
Regardless of what his actual policies are once in office.
Working so far.
In 2012, African Americans voted at the higher rate than any other minority group. Frey's analysis is the latest indication that the Republicans need to figure out how to attract minorities to the GOP if they don't want a repeat of 2012 in a few years time.
Alternatively, the GOP could find a candidate who actually inspires people to turn out to vote.
And I am pretty sure that what you just said is the exact opposite of what the analysis was all about - the analysis showed that Romney didn't lose because he failed to attract minority voters, he lost because he failed to attract voters at all.
And how do you propose the GOP attract minority voters? By offering them free stuff? That's worked pretty well for the Democrats. How about the GOP offering to leave people the hell alone?
What is it about minorities, particularly, that makes them crave free stuff more than white people?
Whoa, slow down there, Tiger. White folks love free stuff.
In fact, when white folks demand free stuff, they go BIG. The free stuff that minorities want pales in comparison to what white folks want.
I think everyone likes free stuff, white people just get a lot more of it.
Yes, yes they do. On that, you and I agree 100%.
Occupy Wall Street obviously failed to prevent a minority of Americans from siezing control of the levers of power.
Republicans need to figure out how to attract minorities to the GOP if they don't want a repeat of 2012
No, not necessarily. Although that would help.
It means they need to figure out how to get their base to show up in 2016.
They're definitely going to have to figure a viable challenger to the Biden/Clinton ticket.
