Brickbat: Do You Know Who Else Asked Students to Write About Why Jews Are Evil?

In New York, an Albany High School teacher, who wasn't identified by local media, has been suspended after asking students to write a letter to a Nazi official arguing that Jews are evil. The assignment was given before the class was scheduled to read "Night," a memoir by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. District Superintendent Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard apologized for the assignment, calling it insensitive but not malicious.

You know who else attacked a subject on more than one front?
Hayek?

Seems like your typical exposition writing assignment. Take a position that isn't typical and defend it.
TL;DR, Jews hate writing.
There are good ways of proposing just such an assignment as you describe. "Write how Jews are evil" isn't it. Like I said in the other thread, if that's the teacher's idea of a well-constructed assignment, I don't want her teaching my kids, regardless of her motivations.
Hey, I wasn't debating the quality of the assignment, just that it sounds typical for government education camps.
Fair enough. Now, if the assignment was "Write how the Irish are demons" THEN I'd be all on board. Everyone knows human beings don't have red hair.
Yup, and I agree with your point. The teacher wasn't asking the students to defend a controversial position...he/she was asking them to try and convince a Nazi to be an anti-Semite using Nazi propaganda. It was not only a poor way to handle controversial subject matter (which could have been useful under the right conditions), but it was a really weak exercise in persuasive writing. It does sound like a terrible teaching effort and I wouldn't be bothered at all with them losing their job.
Also, it annoys me that Reason decided to delete the post on this story that had the most interesting discussion in the comments.
The matrix must have changed something.
You know who else posted the exact same thing twice?
