Obama Won't Press Democrats on Gay Marriage
It's not like they're supporting gun rights or reduced spending or anything like that
White House press secretary Jay Carney, pressed on whether President Obama would encourage Democratic Senators to back gay marriage, signaled that he wouldn't and that he believes they should be free to make up their own minds.
As a cascade of lawmakers has come out in recent weeks in support of same-sex marriage, three Democratic senators have yet to do so: Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Mark Pryor (D-Ark.).
"He was not and is not In a postion to pass judgment on others," Carney said during a press briefing Monday.
