The United Nations cancelled the third annual Gaza marathon. The move came after Hamas, which governs the area, refused to allow women to run the race.

As BAAL IS MY WITNESS, THIS SHALL NOT STAND!

      "Marduk, you totally rule."

      "I totally already know that."

  2. JeremyR   12 years ago

But, but I thought moderate muslims were the norm? You were just telling us that the other day

    1. phandaal   12 years ago

"Moderate" religious folks can only be so by ignoring the uncomfortable parts of their religion.

Plus, we've always been at war with Eastasia.

    2. some guy   12 years ago

Moderate Muslims are the norm, but the extremists have greater influence in the media and politics. This is simply because the extremists actually care enough to take action, while the normies just want to live their lives.

The move came after Hamas, which governs the area, refused to allow women to run the race.

Good move, I bet they would have used their position in leadership to let women run in the race.

  4. Counterfly   12 years ago

Isn't Gaza like 6 miles long or something? What were they going to do, run 4 laps? And have Rosie Al-Ruiz cut across the middle in a taxi?

    1. LTC(ret) John   12 years ago

      "Rosie Al-Ruiz"

      *begins polite applause*

    2. heller   12 years ago

      One word: desert.

  5. SumpTump   12 years ago

Sometimes man, you jsut have to roll with it dude.

    1. LTC(ret) John   12 years ago

But anonybot, the point of the article is that they cannot roll - race cancelled. Go back and adjust your algorithm.

      1. db   12 years ago

Anonobot is showing its sexist colors--it meant "role," as in "Gazan women must accept their appointed role."

  6. wareagle   12 years ago

so tell me about the GOP war on the wimminz again. The real irony here is that Hamas is invariably the side liberals embrace when the Israel question comes up.

  7. Night Elf Mohawk   12 years ago

Why did the UN cancel it? Isn't misogyny just a valid alternative cultural norm that we should respect?

    1. Old Johnnie Goggabie   12 years ago

Indeed. Who's getting the brickbat here? The UN or Hamas?

  8. Fist of Etiquette   12 years ago

If they want a total sausagefest, they should instead hold the marathon at Augusta National or on Ferenginar.

  9. Rich   12 years ago

"We don't want women and men mixing in the same place."

Sheesh, Abdessalam, where do you think little Hamasites come from?

  11. AlmightyJB   12 years ago

They were just concerned that the women may trip over their burkas and hurt themselves. Why does the UN hate women?

  12. DonH   12 years ago

    Israel's fault.
