TX Officer Pleads Guilty To Peddling a Stolen Gun

An Eagle Pass police officer has pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen firearm, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Eriberto Leija, 40, faces up to 10 years in prison after admitting that in July 2012 he tried to sell an M1 carbine that he knew was stolen, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Leija originally told federal agents that he'd received the gun from a Mexican federal police officer, but that was not the case, according to court documents.
