IRS Finally Starts Accepting Individual Tax Returns

Really. It took them until today to update their systems.

It's official: 40 after tax season was officially kick off, the Internal Revenue Service has announced that it is now accepting all returns.

No, that's not a typo. 40 days.

Tax season was originally slated to open on January 22, 2013, but due to the last minute tax deal, opening day was delayed to January 30, 2013. Even then, some returns were delayed even more, with taxpayers claiming education credits and depreciation, for example, being pushed back to mid-February for processing.

It wasn't until today, March 4, that IRS officially announced that it has finished updating its tax-processing systems and all remaining individual and business taxpayers can file their 2012 federal income tax returns. That includes those who were initially still waiting for the all clear because of residential energy credits and various business tax credits and deductions.
