North Korea Drops Another Nuke, World Disapproves, Keeps Turning
What's up with North Korea?

North Korea conducted its third nuclear missile test this Tuesday, coming just three weeks after the totalitarian regime threatened to do so in response to a new round of United Nations condemnation and sanctions for a December missile test. Any additional sanctions will likely take weeks as well, but international pressure is building for the U.N. to investigate human rights conditions in the country, which the State Department calls "deplorable." With a new generation of leadership both in North Korea (where Kim Jong Un's father, Il, died in 2011) and China (where the latest party congress was held last year), the missile tests are testing the complex relationship. China is North Korea's only significant ally in the world, and China's foreign minister summoned the North Korean ambassador for a dressing down the same day North Korea confirmed a nuclear missile test. The United States told North Korea today to avoid "additional provocative acts," of which North Korea promises more.
The nuclear tests have had other repercussions in the region, namely a renewed push among some politicians and policymakers in South Korea and Japan for nuclear weapons. A member of South Korea's ruling party likened the situation to a "gangster in the neighborhood buying a brand-new machine gun" and having only a pebble for self-defense.

i see a sternly worded letter in somebody's future.
Apparently the human rights conditions in the world's caricature of a totalitarian shithole are a real big mystery to the UN.
I feel like a goddamn hippie for saying this, but if only nuke detonations could feed a population of starving Korean chinamen.
That's what their children are for.
A modest proposal...
Sadly.
Commie fucks. When will the Norks' nightmare finally end?
Have you ever spoken to a Nork? Or seen one interviewed?
I get the impression the entire country is brainwashed into believing they live in the happiest, most prosperous place on the planet.
It is a self-induced nightmare and I dont see it ending anytime soon.
That's what makes it even sadder. Christ, I detest commies.
Realistically, we have no idea what North Koreans think.
For one thing, their only source of information is the state media, although there is increasing amount of information slipping through on illegal cell phones and other sources.
OTOH, even if they thought Kim Jong Un should be drawn and quartered, why would they be stupid enough to say so to anyone?
When Kim 2 died, there were stories of people being arrested for not showing sufficient grief. If I were North Korean and a Westerner approached me, I'd spout the party line to the letter.
"OTOH, even if they thought Kim Jong Un should be drawn and quartered, why would they be stupid enough to say so to anyone?"
Hi, Mr. or Ms. Nork comrade! I'm someone you don't know asking your opinion. Would you like to praise the glorious leader or would you like to simply get shot right now?
The scary thing about totalitarian states is that you can't even trust the people you think you know well. The stories of East Germans who found out that their best friends/lovers/family were ratting them out to the Stasi are both depressing and harrowing.
The country is slowly getting leakier and leakier in terms of what gets in. South Korea needs a superhawk in charge.
There's really not much even that fat thug can do to stop this; it *will* get leakeier, even from China.
The question is how many will end up dead before it gets at least as free as China. I'm guessing Kim hangs onto power at least to the extent Mao did, probably knowing full well that he'll die a slow and painful death once it gets out of control.
" I get the impression the entire country is brainwashed into believing they live in the happiest, most prosperous place on the planet."
And yet look at how much of the country is dark. Once the nukes are gone it's all over war-wise. Without china they can't even power their own country.
Either that or anyone who is allowed to give an interview is afraid that if they don't act like it is the happiest country in the world, they and their families will spend the rest of their lives in a prison camp.
What do you mean? Go watch some episodes of MASH. The North Koreans were the good guys!
Fuck Alan Alda. With a ditch blade.
that chicken wouldn't stop clucking!
I'm not sure Viet Cong sympathizers during the Korean War and North Korean inmates citizens now would necessarily be the same people.
Were there Viet Cong sympathizers during the Korean War? How prescient was that!
I never got that impression watching MASH.
Now, uhhh, let me be clear, uhhh, I uhhh disapprove , uhhhh.
King Odumbo: Wow, Michelle, did you hear that speech? I was magnificent, yeah? I scared the shit outta that fat little Chinese short stuff, yeah?
Michelle: You're such a boring jerkoff, I'm goan on vacation by myself.
King Odumbo: Well, uhh, let me be clear, uhh, I like that, because uhh, you're fugly, and I like, umm, don't need women more, you know, since I'm immortal and everyone loves me. I'm going to play that white sport, golf, and bask in my own glory for a while, biaaatch.
Opey Cunningham: Sir, err, I'm sorry, I mean your highness, Kim Jong Un is on the phone.
King Odumbo: WTF? I told you I ain't taking no damn calls, I'm on vacation, tell that short little slanty eyed fuck to go to hell.
Opey Cunningham: He says he has a nuclear warhead pointed at DC.
King Odumbo: Well, I'm leaving, tell him to fuck off... there isn't anyway that missle could reach Hawaii, right?
Opey: That's closer, sir.
King Odumbo: What? It's way out in the middle of the ocean, it's not closer to anything! It's the 57th state! Damn you Opey, you're fucking fired! Now, go learn some geography and file for your free government shit! Do you have the phone number for that fat shit that used to do your job?
If the Norks pointed a nuke at DC, how many average Americans outside the blast area would give a shit?

I know someone who was there not long ago. He described Korean society as a bizarre cult.
If you haven't already, watch the documentary on Netflix about the eye surgery team who managed to sneak in video cams and do a lot of filming inside the country.
It's surreal. Bizarre does not even start to describe what I saw. I can't imagine actually being there.
I watched Vice Guide's trip to NK. It was unbelievable. Incredibly, Eritrea's possibly worse.
Never seen it. This one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24R8JObNNQ4
Yup.
Who presumes who believes any of that?
Are the Kims stupid enough to think anyone outside of NK buys that? Are they simply hoping to retain power and privilege by thuggery in NK?
If so, why waste time and effort arranging a 120,000 peeps show for two peeps?
Weird doesn't begin to describe that.
Heh.

OOOOOOOPS. Not sure how that happened.
Supposed to be

That is a better description than I gave. Yes, cultish as hell.
The Norks now have the worst Meth problem in the world, with some estimates claiming 50% of the population being addicted.
Easy to understand why. I dont use drugs, if you dont count alcohol, but if I lived there I might be tempted to give it a whirl.
How in hell do they get meth?
I know it doesn't require rare earths, but it does cost something, and as I understand it, "something" is more than norks have.
Because their borders are not as impregnable as Dear Leader would have us (and them) believe.
Oh, you were talking about cost. In that case, the only thing I could think of would be the equivalent of the NK upper-crust in their capital city. I've heard those people tend to have it a bit better, I think it's entirely possible they'd be able to afford meth.

"Oh, you were talking about cost. In that case,..."
Suthenboy is claiming 50%. Pretty sure 50% is starving.
How much a fucked up hellhole is your country when meth is the drug for the rich people?
@Virginian
I would think the meth would make it more bearable, even for the rich. "Rich" is relative of course.
@Sevo
Didn't rtfc, silly me. Not sure how to explain 50%. What the hell would they be trading for it (have to assume trade, doubt their money is worth anything to smugglers, if they have any money)?
North Koreans produce meth themselves. In the late 1990s, the government started two meth factories to make extra money for export, and it quickly got out of hand (the people working in the factories smuggled it out, then people with the relevant knowledge started producing it on their own). By the time the government began cracking down around 2005 (and apparently largely shut down its own meth production), there were numerous private manufacturers and supply networks, which is where we are today. North Koreans are actually quite astute businesspeople, just not in the ways we would normally think.
Well damn. That makes sense. Eugh.
A very effective way to suppress the appetite. If I didn't have access to food, I would use it too...

"A very effective way to suppress the appetite. If I didn't have access to food, I would use it too..."
But you have to have what it costs to buy it.
So where is libertymike and Justin Raimondo gushing over North Korea? I mean its existence and ability to launch nukes is a punch in the nose to the neocons and US Empire, right?
Except they don't gush over North Korea, or do anything of the sort, so....?
We have to make sure the letter we send to NK this time is even more strongly worded than the last.
At this rate, I would HIGHLY encourage North Korea to conduct one nuclear test per week. This will ensure that they burn off all of their fissable material. Hell, the Israeli never have to test their bomb design. They KNOW IT WORKS.

I read an article by some wag yesterday that suggested the nuke that was just set off in North Korea was actually an Iranian Nuke. He actually had some pretty interesting arguments.
A good article. I must say that this article make me really good person.I am a
Yahoo Store Designer.
Why does the world community need to do anything about deplorable human rights abuses in North Korea? They have "rights" from nature. That's all they need.
Hodor.
A peaceful N. Korea would cut the US arms industry in half and cause millions to lose their jobs. It is good news for our aircraft building families that Tiny Kim continues voicing his bogus threats.
I do have a sort of sick admiration for the new Kim. The guy deserves to be flayed alive, but successfully keeping his daddy's power in that totalitarian system despite his youth is impressive in a villainous sort of way. I imagine he had to prove himself as a ruthless bastard pretty fuckin quick
I don't know how well this is known outside of Japan but a huge proportion of the Pachinko parlors (think of a verticle type of pinball - or google it) are owned and run by NORKs living in Japan and the lion's share of their profits are smuggled out in Yen (hard currency) to help support the Kim regime.
NORK will do anything to generate hard currency. I expect they would run brothels in the mid-east staffed by their own women if they didn't know that it would be a preferable existence, for the women, to staying in NORK. Repatriation might be difficult.
Where are they doing the tests? If you do tests in water won't the radiation spread everywhere?
I have a theory that nothing is going to change in N.Korea anytime soon. N.Korea is fairly rich in resources, which are currently being underutilized by the Norks. China would be the likely destination of anything extracted. If the Koreas reunite, China now has a large industrial competitor in charge of the resources. They also have a western nation smack dab on their border.
I think China is powerful enough diplomatically to prevent a US base anywhere closer to their border than now. Hell, I think if we saw reunification we'd be under significant pressure to leave, causing the US military to lose an 'important foothold' in the region.
i think now each countries government should bane the nuclear tests, we don't have right to play with nature. what you say guys???
I am working at KGN Technologies is an offshore ecommerce web development company.
Many of them do. That is what makes them so evil.
Bingo. They have always known.
They're about power. Their rationalizations on why they want power are belied by every action they take.
