Tunisian Opposition Leader Killed
Chokri Belaid was shot outside his home
Senior Tunisian opposition leader, Chokri Belaid, from the left-leaning opposition Democratic Patriots party, was shot dead Wednesday morning, his brother told AFP.
"My brother was assassinated. I am desperate and depressed," Abdelmajid Belaid said. The wife of the opposition leader, speaking to Radio Mosaique, said he had been hit by two bullets.
Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali condemned Belaid's killing, saying it was a political assassination and a blow to the Arab Spring revolution.
