NRA Calls for Armed Officers in Every School

Holds press event but doesn't take questions

The nation's largest gun-rights lobby is calling for armed police officers to be posted in every American school to stop the next killer "waiting in the wings."

The National Rifle Association broke its silence Friday on last week's shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school that left 26 children and staff dead.

I'll post what I put on Buzzfeed- Every school should have a non-cop private security guard who is not allowed to intervene in school affairs on any level- no involvement in school discipline, no locker raids, no tackling and handcuffing unruly kids. Just one simple job. Be armed, be aware, and be vigilant about every single person who wishes to enter a school. That's it. Nothing more.

I absolutely disagree about allowing LE to groom schools officials into being willing conspirators to excessive discipline, invasive child surveillance practices, and the consistent overreach that is commonly engaged in by the law enforcement community. Kids and cops don't mix well.

Pretty disappointing and does not make me confident that the NRA is going to be able to fight off bad gun laws this time. Instead of coming off as engaged and empathetic its the same old "kids these days" crap.

Let's talk about mental illness, let's talk about the drug war and how many "gun deaths" are a byproduct, let's acknowledge that you can't make everyone safe all the time, but for the love of god don't come off as a bunch of bitter old farts.

Do like some school districts in Texas are doing. They have armed teachers and staff. Which ones? No one knows but the staff and principal. They all have been trained with a CHL class, and they also have training in regards to when to use deadly force.

The beauty of this method is.. no matter when an asshole decides to shoot up a school, said asshole will not have any idea who has the guns and who doesn't. That's a damn good deterrent if I ever heard one. This horse shit about clips and "assault" weapons is a smokescreen to rob us of our 2nd amendment rights.

the NRA has the right idea, but they're hampered politically by this "think of the children" mantra the gun grabbers have seized upon. The opportunistic ambulance-chasers have poisoned the discourse by using the tragedy in Connecticut as a "human shield" to get their invasive, rights-raping agenda rammed through an already overzealous government.

The problem with the NRA over the years has been that they are too focused on appeasement and placating the do-gooders and nanny-staters. The fact that this tragedy occurred in a "Gun Free Zone" in a state with an existing "Assault Weapons Ban" is completely lost on them and of course all they can think about is how we "need more" of what's "already not working".
