Almost Alone, Gun Owners of America Defends Gun Rights
Most other supposed advocates of self-defense rights have played possum
Mike Hammond, chief counsel for the powerful gun lobbying group Gun Owners of America said the National Rifle Association, the nation's largest gun lobby, was hiding from the media like an opossum following the massacre on Friday of 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
The NRA "always does this, whenever there's a tragedy, they go into 'possum mode," Hammond told The Huffington Post on Monday. "They think that if they don't say anything that it will go away."

Dunno. The current whacko-drive might be best countered by ignoring it. Maybe the NRA has a better handle?
Maybe the NRA has a better handle?
Or maybe they have a bit more class than the gun people control nuts who never miss a chance to jump in and push their agenda.
NRA? Class?
They're Amerrrrika's largest terrorist organization.
Tide is turning, gun nuts.
Th eonly gun nuts are people like you, who seem to obsess over the damned things.
Look, I know how excited you are over Sandy Hook, and the opportunities you think it's provided, but don't be too disappointed when it doesn't pan out the way you're hoping. As always, most people in this ccountry recognize the futility of gun-control laws, and most politicians recognize that when they support new gun controls, they do so at their own political peril.

Apparently whoever wrote the above isn't aware that the word opossum is correctly pronounced with the first "o" silent - so there is no reason to leave it out of the spelling when quoting Hammond. Furthermore, because the "o" is silent, opossum should be preceded by the word a rather than an. Don't they teach proper usage in elementary school any longer?
