Brickbat: Bible Thumpers
Election officials in Williamson County, Texas, forced Kay Hill to cover up her T-shirt before allowing her to vote. The T-shirt read "Vote the Bible." They said the message violated state law banning electioneering inside or within 100 feet of a polling place. "Electioneering would cover wearing a hat, a pen, a T-shirt, or a sign that would indicate a position for a political party, candidate or a proposition," said Williamson County public affiars director Connie Watson.

She should have worn her "Bible the Vote" t-shirt. It confuses the enforcers.
What law would Jesus violate?
fishing without a license?
Not being from 'round here.
Operating a food service without a health inspection certificate?
Not to mention serving and producing alcohol without a license.
Also, polluting water.
Stand Your Ground?
Practicing medicine without a license.
Making more than 200 gallons of wine in one year without a license.
Holding gatherings without a permit.
Suspected gang activity.
Suspected terrorist.
Killed by a drone.
Killed by a drone.
There's a law against this?
nah, but crucifixion has been relegated to EPA only.
I figured they'd just call it Loitering.
Since, you know, he was...hanging around.
I think that's just the end result for all of his crimes.
animal cruelty?
Yep. Those poor pigs.
Trespassing on private waters.
I'm sure that stunt with Lazarus would have gotten JC crossways with the undertakers (or the local board who licenses undertakers).
Is Bible on the ballot, or is he/she a write-in candidate?
My eyes were blinded by a fellow-voter's Obama/Biden campaign button while waiting in line at the polling station this morning. If we wake-up tomorrow morning and Gary Johnson is not the winner, this illegal campaigning will be the cause. Voter suppression I say!
Someone should tell Nike about these rather crude counterfeit t-shirts
Jehovah vs Phil Knight, throwdown of the millenium!
But which bible?
Jewish?
Christian?
Mormon?
Dreams of My Father?
Another win for the 1st amendment. YES
Oh come on, it's pretty clearly in the Can'tstitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech (except for political speech within 100 feet of a polling place), or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I really do need to get the government annotated version. I only have this really old one they let fall into the hands of the prols.
Yeah, the e-copy is much better, since it can receive updates on the fly.
The Vote the Bible people need to get in touch with the Funny-Tees people to get better models.
Jim Wallis and James Dobson would seem to disagree over who this t-shirt helps.
I love when I hear Christian Right types say things like 'vote Jesus'. If you think we have a socialist in the White House now, what do you think Jesus actually would do if he were President when it comes to things like equality and wealth distribution?
Tell them we've already had four years of a Messiah, and it was bad enough.
he's the Messiah? Are you sure?
"Render unto Caesar".
This.
Given that he seemed to think the institution of slavery was just peachy keen and that he advocated voluntary not mandatory charity I'm betting not much.
Not have it enforced at the point of a sword - you are measured by how you act, voluntarily - Christ didn't admonish people to force others to clothe and feed the poor or visit the sick and imprisoned.
^this^
He advocates stealing food in Mark Chapter 2, so apparently he wasn't entirely opposed to forced redistribution.
Gleaning =/= theft.
Jesus was Caesar?
In America, we are all caesar.
I am Sparticus
what do you think Jesus actually would do if he were President when it comes to things like equality and wealth distribution?
Remain apolitical and provide moral messages to guide people to right actions.
But if the black panthers show up with bats and tell everyone they better vote Obama mother fucker well that's ok.
Thank you! I'm still pissed off about that. I tell people that happened but they don't believe me. After all, in this country such a thing would be prosecuted, right?
Get over your fear of Scary Black Men.
Let's see the liberals shrug when the Klan shows up, unarmed, outside a polling place in Montgomery.
I live in Williamson County, Texas, and I'm SHOCKED that such a thing occurred. I would more expect to see someone handing out "vote the bible" t-shirts with an election official calmly explaining, "In Williamson County, you cannot vote without one of these T-shirts. It's just our way."
There seems to be a law here that any jewelry, T-shirt, or other clothing/accessory must be adorned with either 1) the logo of a Texas College sports team, or 2) something about Jesus.
My daughter was buying charms for her bracelet. I asked if she could order a dollar sign charm. The saleslady looked horrified. I may as well have asked for a pentagram.
Maybe the saleslady was horrified by your involvement in charm-bracelet witchcraft.
BURN HIM!!!
Go to "Christian" bookstorees and ask where they keep their rosaries. 🙂
Rosaries are books?
Catholics are heretics and pedophiles. This is a Protestant nation. Deal with it.
Not sure if serious ... ?
Officials were more lenient with the NAACP in Texas yesterday.

"We back the actions of our appointed elections workers at the county and precinct level," Williamson County Judge Dan Gattis told the American-Statesman. "If a citizen does not agree, they need to follow the proper channels to complain.
"Vote the Bible"? What the hell? It's nonsensical. You can vote according to Biblical principles. You can vote for Jesus. You can vote according to your religious denomination. But "vote the Bible"?
Yes, early and often.
I just saw a woman at Starbuck's wearing a shirt that read "Vote for Vodka."
What - and steal votes from Gin? I have principles, dammit!
