Formerly Democratic Navajo Nation Switches Parties Over Coal
They endorse the GOP Senate candidate in New Mexico
SANTA FE — The Navajo Nation Council once a reliable bloc of Democratic votes has switched to the Republican Party over the war on coal.
The Navajo Nation Council has announced its support for Heather Wilson over her Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich, in the U.S. Senate race.
New Mexico has been fighting with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the agency's demand that the state's largest coal-fired, electricity generating plant adopt costly anti-haze measures that will increase New Mexico's utility rates.
