    ROMNEYBOT HAS NO COMMENTS

    1. darius404   13 years ago

Please, let's not be rude. The newest model's designation is Romnonbot, The EveryMan?.

  2. db   13 years ago

    ROMNEYBOT CRUSH MODERATOR HEAD.

  3. db   13 years ago

Romney's got his anglerfish Halloween costume on a little early this year.

  4. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

Hmmm, at least three possible readings of this:

    1. The cartoon highlights Romney's failure to crush an awful opponent in the polls
    2. The cartoon highlights the media's bias in challenging Romney for his failure rather than take the President to task for his crimes and incompetence
    3. The cartoon highlights Chip Bok's inability to be funny

    Discuss.

    1. WTF   13 years ago

Can I select a combination of all three?

    2. RBS   13 years ago

      Yes.

    3. Ted S.   13 years ago

I visit H&R with only cached images set to load, so I get a bunch of blank gray boxes when I come here. (I have my browser set up with a default gray background; I find that easier on the eyes.) I thought the empty gray box was funny.

    4. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

Doesn't #3 always outweigh the others?

    5. BarryD   13 years ago

IIRC Ronald Reagan was actually losing in the polls at this point, and his landslide victory was 'unexpected' until it was no longer plausible to deny it, late at night after the votes had poured in on Election Day.

Has Romney failed to beat his opponent? How do we know? This is all just masturbation by the media, waiting for the main event to actually happen, and mixed with some attempts at pro-Obama meme building.

      1. BarryD   13 years ago

BTW I have no idea who is winning. Anyone who claims to have an idea is fooling themselves.

However, if Romney turns the map mostly red on the 6th, all this will seem really stupid. And if he loses, then there is an opportunity for intelligent analysis of what he did wrong, or the GOP did wrong, or whatever. Either way, the cartoon will seem silly.

      2. Stormy Dragon   13 years ago

This is a common myth, but if you actually examine the tracking polls from the time, it is not correct:

        http://www.outsidethebeltway.c.....heats1980/

        1. BarryD   13 years ago

          I looked at the graph.

There was a lot of overlap towards the end of October, if you actually look, and by no means was Reagan winning in the polls, though clearly after the debate, Carter was done for.

  5. Fatty Bolger   13 years ago

Alright, Friday! A crappy cartoon, and soon, two reviews of the same movie!

    1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

Yep, can't have Friday without these things - why, it would be like Morning Links without sarc and John arguing over the appropriate triggers for erections

      1. sage   13 years ago

        What a porker!

        1. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

Liar, she looks like a famine victime!

          1. sage   13 years ago

            That sums it up nicely.

      2. sarcasmic   13 years ago

That reminds me, I haven't posted any John pron lately.

  6. Palin's Buttplug   13 years ago

I love that conservative blogs are all celebrating a Romney victory while the market (and reality based people) all have Obama still at a 3-2 favorite.

Penetrating the brain bubble of a wingnut is difficult but without Ohio that bubble will pop in a very satisfactory way Nov 6th.

    1. The Craig   13 years ago

Are you saying you finally understand odds?

    2. Bee Tagger   13 years ago

C'mon, take a thread off. Just make fun of Bok like the rest of us.

      1. Bee Tagger   13 years ago

You're still aces in my book, Bok. If anyone still knew who Chris Myers is, I would say "we kid because we care."

      2. Palin's Buttplug   13 years ago

I don't have the heart. This may be his only gig.

        1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

Astonishingly, no. The magic of Google, eh?

          1. Cdr Lytton   13 years ago

He and Helen Thomas are co-authors of a children's book,The Great White House Breakout(Dial Books for Young Readers, 2008), the story of a president's young son and his escapades throughout Washington D.C.

            Paging Barfman!

            1. Ted S.   13 years ago

              So they re-wrote Roman Holiday?

          2. Restoras   13 years ago

It hasn't heard of Google. If it had it would acutally know soemthing about the state of the economy.

    3. WTF   13 years ago

      reality based people

I do not think that means what you think it means.

      1. CampingInYourPark   13 years ago

It's not those people that keep up with the Kardashians?

        1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

          Kanye West?

          1. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

            Cornell West?

                Mae West?

    4. Mike M.   13 years ago

Better keep desperately clinging to that InTrade liferaft as though your life depends on buddy, because it's all you have left. We're going to be laughing at your dumb ass so much in a week and a half, it's going to be great.

      1. Drax the Destroyer   13 years ago

Regardless of what happens, my cup will runneth over with salty ham tears. It will be sweet. And depressing.

    5. Appalachian Australian   13 years ago

Obama is spending time in Toledo. TOLEDO. You don't think that smacks of desperation?

  7. The Craig   13 years ago

I just watched the "Lie Back and Think of Mother England, America" Obama video and now this.

    Why do hate us Reason?

    1. The Craig   13 years ago

      Fuck me.

      1. CampingInYourPark   13 years ago

The video must have worked then

        1. The Craig   13 years ago

I remember my first time voting. I felt really dirty. I vowed to stay home next election day and pleasure myself instead.

          1. darius404   13 years ago

So the video's an accurate metaphor, then?

  8. Bee Tagger   13 years ago

Some people raise their eyebrows when asking a question, Lehrer collapses his temples.

    1. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

Maybe his head is imploding? A couple more frames and his head would be replaced with a mini-black hole.

      1. Loki   13 years ago

Are you implying that his brain has been replaced with a singularity?

  9. Palin's Buttplug   13 years ago

Also, more Americans feel better about the economy than at any time in the last five years (+4).

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/158.....ially.aspx

This is a serious repudiation of the far-right claim that the economy sucks.

    1. WTF   13 years ago

Because feelings trump facts every time!

      1. a better weapon   13 years ago

Can't argue with someone who has a PhD in Feelings.

        1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

          I can't resist

    2. VG Zaytsev   13 years ago

I know proglodytes are desperate when I see them celebrating a 38% positive poll number.

    3. Restoras   13 years ago

This guy is such a clown he can't be taken remotely seriously. It's by far the worst "recovery" (dead-cat bounce) in 100 years and according to this skidmark that means the economy doesn't suck.

    4. Night Elf Mohawk   13 years ago

Also, more Americans feel better about the economy than at any time in the last five years

Of course they do, with Obama's pending loss.

    5. Jordan   13 years ago

      Yes, clearly U6 isn't really 16%.

    6. Loki   13 years ago

      BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Shorter Shriek: People are economically illiterate morons who believe stupid shit, so it's all good!

  10. CampingInYourPark   13 years ago

You know who else blew billions?

    1. Longtorso   13 years ago

      Monica?

    2. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

      Anna Nicole Smith?

    3. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

      Lily von Stumpf?

      1. db   13 years ago

No thank you. Twenty-seven is my limit on Schnitzengruben.

        1. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

Yeah, I heard she was tired, too.

        2. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

Vhy don't you admit it? He's too much of man for you. I know. You're going to need an army to beat him! You're finished. Fertig! Verfallen! Verlumpt! Verblunget! Verkackt!

          1. Restoras   13 years ago

One of the best movies ever. The 70's may have been awful for somethings but at least that movie was made - because it would never be made now.

            1. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

i utterly adore it. Currently my Twitter profile text is "My mind is aglow with whirling, transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of invention." "Ditto."

    4. Suki   13 years ago

      Bettie Page?

      1. Ken Shultz   13 years ago

Bettie Page did not blow billions.

  11. Fist of Etiquette   13 years ago

Is this where Romney tries to subtly remove the cheat-sheet handkerchief from his breast pocket? Shouldn't this show Lehrer sound asleep? Obama, too, come to think about it.

  12. Longtorso   13 years ago

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!?!?! I NEED LABELS!!!!!

    1. sarcasmic   13 years ago

      My sentiments exactly.

  13. Mike M.   13 years ago

Hey Reason, you guys broke the mobile commenting system. Fix it please, if you would be so kind.

    1. Fist of Etiquette   13 years ago

You can have that or you can have ampersands. You can't have both.

    2. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

They don't read these comments, or they would have sacked Bok ages ago. Email malissi@reason.com

    3. Cdr Lytton   13 years ago

Not broken here. Preview still works too.

      1. LTC(ret) John   13 years ago

        Show off.

        1. Cdr Lytton   13 years ago

No way. Show off would be &.

  14. Suki   13 years ago

    Yawn

  15. VG Zaytsev   13 years ago

    Needs more labels.

Without labels I don't know who or what is in the drawing and where it is supposed to be taking place.

  16. Tim   13 years ago

POTUS: What the hell is going on man, WE HAD A DEAL!

ROMNEY: I'm as surprised as you are. I let Benghazi go, figured that was more than enough.

POTUS: It wasn't. Let me be clear: I need you to dial it back right now, today.

ROMNEY: Look I have my "major economic address" planned, it's just forty minutes of platitudes and evasions.

POTUS: I need more, a deal's a deal man. I want you to announce Sarah Palin is under consideration for a high cabinet post.

Romney: Nobody'll buy that, it could blow the whole deal. Why don't I do some freestyle on abortion, maybe say rape is God's punishment for a sinful lifestyle?

POTUS: That... could work. Letterman, all those guys would eat it up. You know what? Go with that. I'll call you Friday. Take care.

    ROMNEY: You too.

    1. generic Brand   13 years ago

Now that's funnier than Bok's attempt. Have you thought about selling your ideas to cartoonists?

      1. Ted S.   13 years ago

The pig should say, "My wife is a slut."

      2. Tim   13 years ago

It's not made up, for throwing the race Romney gets gubmint funding to turn Utah into one gigantic solar panel.

  17. Ken Shultz   13 years ago

Why hasn't Mitt closed the deal, yet?

What if it really did have something to do with the 47%?

    1. Stormy Dragon   13 years ago

Obama is a terrible president. But I don't hate him as a person. Romney's one of those people that just completely pisses me off no matter what they're doing.

  18. tagtann   13 years ago

Never really thought about it like that man. Wow.
    http://www.Surfin-Anon.tk

  19. Lord Humungus   13 years ago

You know who else couldn't close the deal?

    1. sarcasmic   13 years ago

      Your mom?

  20. Romulus Augustus   13 years ago

It would be nice to blame Romney's failure on "closing the deal" on Gary Johnson's surge in the polls, but unfortunately I detect no such surge. In fact, where is the GJ campaign?? I'm a life member of the LP and was a delegate in Vegas for GJ yet I have not been solicited once either by phone, e-mail or snail mail to make a contribution to the GJ campaign. Good to know he's running in 2016; maybe a four year campaign can actually get some infrastructure in place to do something valuable.

    1. Ted S.   13 years ago

That's because they know you're voting for GJ.

    2. Appalachian Australian   13 years ago

I keep putting off going by a local greenhouse to pick up a free GJ sign. And I should be more motivated, my wife keeps bugging me to get it done.

Such is the enthusiasm of Libertarian Party voters.

      1. Bobarian   13 years ago

        Free GJ?

        Is someone holding him prisoner?

  21. invisible furry hand   13 years ago

well I know who couldn't seal the deal
