Transportation Secretary May Stay for a Second Term

Who wants to give up those percs?

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was on the road to retirement — but lately, he's dropped some hints about a possible U-turn.

The Illinois Republican has left his mark at the Transportation Department, from standing up for the administration's stimulus in the face of heavy criticism to making distracted driving a national safety priority. So last year, when he told the Chicago Tribune that he'd leave after President Barack Obama's first term, it wasn't a major surprise. A heavy Cabinet turnover is typical when a president is reelected, and no one could say he hasn't done a lot of work in four years at the agency.
