Emory University Apologizes For Anti-Semitism at Dental School

From 1948-61 about 65% of Jewish students were kicked out

A US university has apologised for years of anti-Semitism at its dental school going back decades.

Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, invited former Jewish students to meet with University President James Wagner.

More than 400 people attended the premiere of a documentary on Wednesday about the discrmination.

Unfortunately, Emory University is the home of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), an organization originally founded as a haven for critical biblical scholarship, but which has been overrun during recent decades by Evangelical Christians, leading Professor Ronald Hendel of Berkeley to publicly announce that he was resigning his membership. Many others haven't attended SBL meetings for years because the stifling atmosphere of faith-based pseudo-scholarship, as well as the "dirty secret" of assaults on academic freedom taking place there, make them feel uncomfortable (see the articles linked below). Despite this situation, SBL actually continues to be a member of the American Council of Learned Societies, in violation of that group's basic critical standards. If Emory is sincere about renouncing its biased past, it should also confront the intellectual forms of prejudice prevailing today at SBL.
