Former Philippines President Arrested

Accused of misusing millions of state lottery funds

Former Philippine president Gloria Arroyo was arrested while undergoing treatment at a military hospital on Thursday on charges of misusing $8.8m (366m pesos) of state lottery funds during her last years in office.

Mrs Arroyo has already been arrested in a separate case brought in November 2011 over allegations of poll rigging, for which she is still on bail.
