Philly Cop Hits Woman at Festival

Police violence at city festivals is like a trend

Cell phone video that show a woman being struck by a police officer at the Festival de la Americas following the Philadelphia Puerto Rican Day Parade is getting thousands of views on YouTube and is generating comments and questions about the officer's actions.

The video shows several police officers at Sunday's festival and a crowd of people. The woman, identified as Aida Guzman of Chester, Pa., is hit by one of the officers and falls to the ground.

  1. Now that wasn’t very festive.

  2. True police brutality is indefensible but what we have here is another example of someone making a really dumb choice. If you look closely at the beginning of the video, you’ll see the woman has a spray can in her hand. She approaches the cops from behind and hits them in the face with…turns out to be Silly String. I’m sorry, but you just don’t do that to a cop without expecting an immediate and forceful reaction. When cops cross the line and unnecessarily abuse their positions, they should be fired and prosecuted. This is not one of those situations.
