Democratic Fan Culture Alive and Well in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE -- At today's pleasant and crowded Carolina Fest just outside the security perimeter of the Democratic National Convention, thousands thronged in the sweltering heat to listen to bands, eat delicious North Carolina BBQ, and engage in goofy civic projects like seeing how big Abraham Lincoln's shoes were (pretty big!). But by far the most crowded area was the double-sided row selling Barack Obama-themed political swag, from "Run DNC" shirts to somber presidential portraits to items available at Obama-Bling.com.
Vendors who didn't shell out the tent-money were also doing a brisk business in Obama pins, bizarro-world calendars, and photographs next to a sort of Obama-Buddha made of sand. Even inside the perimeter, the official gift stores have been shoulder-to-shoulder with T-shirt buyers. By any comparison, the market for Democratic-ticket swag outpaces that of Republicans by a factor of several.
The enthusiasm translates personally, as well. I was nearly pinned to a wall on a sidewalk when a bunch of union T-shirt-wearing teenagers caught a glimpse of Jesse Jackson nearby in the backseat of a sedan. At the Epicentre, a mall just adjacent to the Time Warner Cable Arena, a persistent crowd of around 100 fans stands in the broiling sun for the pleasure of watching from a distance the live manufacture of MSNBC. "I got to see Nancy Pelosi on live television!" a young man said as he walked by me. When the left-of-center cable network shows old clips of Obama speeches, the sweaty crowd breaks out into cheers.
There was nothing remotely like this at the Republican National Convention. The few official merchandise sellers inside were not what you'd call crowded, and the most I ever saw outside was a lone button-seller, usually neglected. (It's also true that the RNC, unlike the DNC, was held at several lengths' remove from anything resembling the public.) The only politician I saw greeted anything remotely like a rock star was vice presidential pick Paul Ryan. Applause lines ending in the name "Mitt Romney" typically received just a respectful smattering of applause.
Is there any significant upshot to this? Maybe just that the "enthusiasm gap" between the two candidates is wider than you think. Nothing can compare to the scores of thousands of Americans waiting hours and hours in the hot sun for the chance to see Obama speak at the DNC in 2008, but the man still makes some hearts beat fast.

There is much more enthusiasm about BO. Unfortunately for him, for most Americans it's negative enthusiasm.
...like seeing how big Abraham Lincoln's shoes were (pretty big!).
Honest Abe's bodyguard was a lucky fella. Booooyah.
Fist of..., what?
(Are you talking about this?
http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes-anatomy.html)
(I am so naive.)
I don't think this is the sort of thing that is discussed on the internet.
oooookayyyy
(where do we go to discuss this sort of thing?)
You ask a lot of questions. You're not a cop, are you?
I just got an email from his campaign saying the Obama store (he didn't build that!) has everything 25% off this week. Going out of business sale, I hope?
"I got to see Nancy Pelosi on live television!" a young man said as he walked by me.
That's where she looks almost human.
She looks more like Katherine Helmond in "Brazil" every day.
I wish I got as excited when I watch C-SPAN.
I was nearly pinned to a wall on a sidewalk when a bunch of union T-shirt-wearing teenagers caught a glimpse of Jesse Jackson nearby in the backseat of a sedan.
Welch only got out of it by flashing them the Van Buren Boys sign.
I'm not happy with Obama's record, however, you have to take a look at the facts. The facts are that after the 2010 congressional elections, the Rethuglitards decided they would defeat each and every piece of legislation that Obama supported. That is why I cannot support the Repugnicans. Trickle down economics DO NOT WORK. In 400 years since trickle down economics first came on the scene they have never worked except to distort the playing field.
So, this election is a toss up as far as I'm concerned. If the US wants to try more of the same failed policies then they should elect Romney. If the US wants to have at least a chance of restoring the middle class then they should elect Obama.
Hahahaha, Jeff, you are one persistent retard.
good god I lost a few IQ points just from reading this post.
Except the bailouts, indefinite detention, and more wars (oops, most of those never went through Congress)
Considering Obama's and Romney's economic policies are virtually identical, I'm not sure why you're bringing that up. As to actual tax breaks and such, Obama is just as for them as Romney, he just wants to give them to a slightly different set of people, including: college students, "high-tech" manufacturers, "clean energy," energy-conserving building improvements, and "companies that choose to stay here and hire here in America." The reasons may differ, but the policy is the same: special favors to selected constituents, many of whom are or are likely to be wealthy in the future.
Fixed your quote there.
bailouts? TARP was Bush, you moron. All the money came from Oct 2008.
The auto bailouts, Shrike. Are you really that stupid?
He DID support the bailout. You're right that it was before his coronation inauguration, though. My mistake.
No, my mistake again. The first bailout was before Obama, but the SECOND was very early during his Presidency.
It was Bush, but the Republican caucus voted against it. It was the Democrats that put it over the top.
Paul Ryan is a Democrat then.
Dumbass. Even Boener voted for the bailouts.
Beside the point. If you're anti-TARP, you ought to be praising the GOP, who would have defeated it before it got to Bush's desk, Ryan or no Ryan.
Face it, Bubba, those stump-toothed rednecks got it right and your geniuses got it wrong.
I know I shouldn't respond to this... but... seriously... how is reelecting the incumbent not "more of the same failed policies"?
Because of those evil "rethuglitards" or something.
I think he means the failed policies from before the current failed policies. Good thing Romney is only interested in the current failed policies. Too bad the current failed policies are the same as the previous failed policies.
I know I shouldn't respond to this... but... seriously... how is reelecting the incumbent not "more of the same failed policies"?
Yeah, I don't get it either.
The retard's pitch is The rethuglicans prevented Obama from fixing the economy - So why would I send him back?
The politics of failure have failed. We must make them work again.
I agree that trickle down doesn't work. Just look at Solyndra.
But that is different, because they were well intentioned.
- Team Blue dick rider
What was I thinking!
One gives tax breaks to well connected insiders to stimulate growth while still enlarging the size of government out of proportion to growth, so the shortfall must be made up by future tax increases and monetary policy. The other gives money to well connected insiders while growing government in excess of revenue, requiring monetary intervention and future tax increases to fund it.
Can't you see they are totally different!!?!?!??!
Trickle down economics DO NOT WORK.
Neither do your throw-up economics. Maybe we should just let the dollars do a random walk for a change.
Actually the money does trickle down...it trickles down all the way to the Chinese and Indians. Americans just forgot that we're rich, and so there's trickling down from us just as much as there's trickling down to us.
In 400 years since trickle down economics first came on the scene they have never worked except to distort the playing field.
Umm I have no idea what you mean by trickle down economics....but regardless one can hardly claim we are not better off then when we were 400 years ago.
Whatever the fuck you are saying doesn't work for the past 400 years appears to have worked pretty well.
Somehow, Jeff, I doubt your sincerity when you intimated that you weighed the issues carefully before making your decision.
Is it just me, or is this the same thing they told us in '08?
Fool me once...
The fact is that there is no such thing as a "Rethuglitard." It's possible there do exist Repugnicans, however.
Rethuglitards
Tee hee, that's so clever! You've convinced me that I should ignore Obama's appalling record on human rights, and vote for some hope'n'change!

Is MSNBC EXPLICITLY shilling for the Dems now?
[spit take!] When weren't they?
1996-1998
Ah, the old steam-powered TVs.
Was at Goodwill today and they had about a 60 inch high def TV for around 40 bucks.
The only problem was that it was pre flat-screen and HDMI cables, and had to weigh about 500 pounds.
No, Morning Joe Scarborough is GOP all the way. He even has a dead intern problem.
Gary Condit was a Democrat.
MSNBC only lets that squish Scarborough on when surrounded by shrieking leftists like Mika, Larry and Andrea.
"Is MSNBC EXPLICITLY shilling for the Dems now?"
When were they not?
50-1 you listen to Fox Fake News like any wingneck fucking moron does.
No- 100,000 to one.
Math fail.
Shriek's entire cerebrum has cracked and fallen into a septic tank, from which it posts here.
I see you are still furiously polishing the same old turd. Keep it up, you are a riot.
Romney and Ryan seem to be drawing big enthusiastic crowds out in the wild. I suspect that's where it counts.
I can't imagine the whole "a hurricane is probably going to blow through here" reports helped with turnout.
True.
Yeah, it does help when the DNC is busing in college students from around the Carolinas.
And unless they're coming from MIT-ish trimester-based schools that start later in Sept, aren't they supposed to be in class this week anyway?
Didn't feel studenty out there today.
Romney and Paul would have a shit pot of people at the GOP convention if they had not locked out the delegates and let Ron Paul speak.
Purging the grassroots tends to have a negative effect on enthusiasm.
One day people around here are going to realize that Republicans prefer Obama to Ron Paul.
Um, I don't think so.
I don't know about all Republicans...or even the majority of them.
But yeah Republican establishment types like David Brooks prefers Obama to Ron Paul....of course he prefers Obama to Reagan/Bush/Bush/Romney so that really does not tell us much.
That calendar is disturbing. It actually has a quote from the Bible about God giving the world his only begotten son over an imagine of Obama's birth certificate.
I want one.
Too bad they don't have any shepherds and mangers in HI.
They are seriously awesome-sauce. I might buy 10.
That calendar will be worth money someday, if nothing else, for the "Dewey defeats Truman" quality of the Jan '13 picture (after Obama inevitably loses of course).
At first I thought Dan's brother Jeff was a spoof. I am now forced to confront the terrifying possibility that he's real, and serious.
In 400 years since trickle down economics
really? this comment actually peaked my suspicion that he is a spoof.
On that note, do we know who "Dan" is supposed to be? I can't think of a commenter with that name offhand.
probably Mary "Fat Indian" Stack with a full scrip.
There was a well known troll here by the name of Dan T. He was an uber-douche who wrote stunningly bad sci-fi on his personal blog.

I'm the cult of personality
Since when do Republicans hold fan festivals outside conventions? That seems to me to be something kids do when engaged in the cult of personality, not working adults.
Conventions have turned into slobbering, partisan love-ins anyways . . . More of a sideshow anymore. Romney has been slowly, but steadily pulling even with Obama in the polls. I think this will end up being a repeat of 2004, with the R's getting 51% to the D's 48%, with the remaining 1% going to Greens and Libertarians. Romney wins, but not by enough of a margin to lay claim to a mandate (at least in Beltway terms). The Senate goes 52-48 R-D, and the R's maintain their majority in the House with a scant few gains.
I think Romney will do a bit better than that. Vast numbers of swing voters gave Obama the benefit of the doubt in 2008, and are disappointed now. I know leftists who voted for him once, but not again. I think there is both a Bradley Effect and a Shy Conservative Effect in the polling. More people now identify as Republicans than Democrats, which is very unusual.
Obama has leads in the key swing states of Ohio and Florida. Romney has pulled ads out of PA even earlier than McCain did.
Obama is a 2-1 favorite on expert sites due to key swing states.
CO, NV, and NM are not even in play for the Bushpigs this go round.
VA is for Obama and he won't need it.
The Redneck Era is ending.
Obama has leads in in FL and OH that are, according to the latest RCP average, 1 and 1.4 percent, respectively. These "leads" have been slowly shrinking in the last 3 week. In fact, the latest poll in Ohio has it at dead even. Obama will likely get only a very small "bump" in the polls afterwords, and this bump will evaporate within a matter of days. So, back to even. I think in situations like this, the incumbent does hold certain advantages - but the underlying polls that matter most are working against the president, including an approval rating stubbornly stuck at 47%, a majority of independents going for Romney, and the very real prospect that Obama will in fact lose a key number of swing states that he won in 2008. I am thinking here of VA, NC, IA and WI. I do think both Ohio and Florida go for Romney. This, in addition to the states mentioned above, seals the deal.
Agree that "close" is a given but not the shrinking lead business.
http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....-1860.html
My only source is RCP, btw. Nate Silver is brilliant but uses poll averages as well.
The RCP average is a pretty good indicator. About the best that you are going to get for poll results. It very accurately predicted the Dems 2010 debacle in the HOR.
Obamney appears to be about tied with himself for the popular vote. However, the electoral college gives the edge to the big eared Obamney clone.
This is not a sporting event. Obamney sucks balls
Rassmussen has Romney by two (46-44) in the 11 swing states.
Chocolate Jesus is headed for retirement, Bubba.
Fuck Ras! Do you ever get tired of sucking off the GOP retreads? (Ras, Fox, Heritage, Fat Rush, Etc?)
Fuck Ras! Do you ever get tired of sucking off the GOP retreads?
shrike, you never seem to get tired of being Team Blue's professional glory hole, so I don't know what you're complaining about.
I pay attention to Rassmussen because they are very accurate. They called the 2008 election to th percentage point, in fact, better than any other poller out there.
The question is why you know - or should know - this and continue to use less accurate polling as your source.
Obama's packing his ass up come January. Get used to it, nancy. Even Mikey Moore sees the writing on the wall.
Past performance is not indicative of future success.
Past performance is the best indicator of future success, dumbass.
Really? Ask Clint.
Really now? So what is, bright boy?
The fact that there are more 1 Hit Wonders than people with long storied careers proves I'm right.
Basic causality: The same cause produces the same effect.
Go read Hume, dumbass.
Huh? There are tons of anti-Obama ads in PA. Just because the campaign may not be running ads doesn't mean all the Super PACs aren't.
Rove's PAC has plenty of money to burn and is desperate for a turnover state.
Rove should die of a fucking brain tumor like his homie Lee Atwater did. Seriously - Rove commented on murdering Todd Dipshit Missouri Man who hates women.,
A bullet in Rove's cranium is too good for that lying bastard.
Is this part of that New Civility (TM) the port side has been advocating?

I fucking hate civility.

Throw the whores at Ras out and it is over - thus the Intrade 3-2 Obama fave odds.
HAHAHAAHHA VA for Obama?
Tim Kaine's not around the suppress the military vote like in 08.
VA is 1/2 Maryland and 1/2 NC (the lesser half).
Obama won both in 2008.
You are seriously fucking stupid. Note the fucking handle dipshit. You really think you know my state better then me?
Yeah, I do.
Obama won Maryland, Virginia, and NC in 2008 and now leads in the former two and is tied in NC.
The mid-Atlantic is turning Blue due to demographics.
PB, I really don't see VA going for Obama. That present lead he holds is six-tenths of one percent. I'd say that should set off all kinds of red flags for an incumbent.
You may well be clairvoyant but the polls show Obama with a slight edge in VA.
And the fundie GOP set is not at all enamored with a Willard Romney LDS.
Holy shit you are this dumb.
Alright, the massive military vote in the Tidewater cancels out the more blue flavored parasites in NoVa. Then the crackers and socons all over the state cancels out the inner city votes.
Virginia comes down to the Richmond collar counties, Chesterfield and Henrico in particular. That's where you win or lose the state. Which is why Paul Ryan has been here three times, and why Obama himself has come by twice (IIRC).
I don't think it will work. Henrico, which went 57% Obama in 2008, is nowhere near that. Bless their hearts, but those soccer moms aren't that stupid after all. Chesterfield won't even be close. Those evil people like it when their lives get better, not worse.
You, shriek, are fucking wrong, again. He won't win Virginia. He might win the goddamn election, but he won't win Virginia.
Oh, and NC? He won that by .32 percent last time. You are smoking some primo shit if you think he's still that popular in NC.
Maryland is creeping Southward, like it or not.
Fairfax is the fastest growing county in VA in real numbers (not %).
NoVa is Obama country.
Wait, you mean a constantly expanding federal government brings thousands of new parasites a year, and they buy homes in the better of the two states to border DC? Really?
I forsee a day when my beloved Commonwealth goes down the path of the shithole that is Maryland. But it ain't here yet shrikey poo.
You wanna lay some money down?
I would bet you 10g that VA goes blue but the attorney fees would eat up the winner.
We would have to enter into a contract and post collateral into escrow.
You must really love Willard.
Obama won Maryland? Wow, shocking, who would have dreamed it? The bluest of the blue states. When you live here and witness the number of illiterate retards on welfare, it is easy to understand. It is the only thing keeping the Dems as a major party.
Who the fuck cares, both versions of Obamney are shit.
The mid-Atlantic is turning Blue due to demographics.
The mid-Atlantic voted for Carter in 80'
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi.....tymap2.PNG
So did Georgia.
That was before Reagan let the South secede again.
I would bet you 10g that VA goes blue but the attorney fees would eat up the winner.
We would have to enter into a contract and post collateral into escrow.
You must really love Willard.
Haha I probably won't vote. You think Barry will let you stop polishing his boner long enough to scurry down to the polls?
It's so cute how you toss that out like you have any intention of following through.
That was before Reagan let the South secede again.
Umm I think you got your history wrong.
The confederacy were all Democrats and Lincoln was a Republican.
Romney cannot win without FL.
Romney and Obama are tied in the polls in Florida with 6% undecided and undecideds tend to break from the incumbent.
thus the Intrade 3-2 Obama fave odds.
He Shrike how does that work anyway?
Do I buy Romney stock and if he wins do i get payed?
Or do I have to sell the stock before the election is over to get my money?
Are you serious? Intrade pays out.
Bet $4200 on Willard and you get paid $10,000 if he wins.
That's 7:3 odds, not 3:2
Shriek is probably confusing Intrade's prevailing probabilities (58% for Obama, 42% for Romney) with payout odds.
Read the post again, dammit.
"Bet $4200 on Willard and you get paid $10,000 if he wins."
One would NET $5800 on that bet (minus expenses)
Why is math so hard for you wingnuts?
That's a 1.38:1 payout. 3:2 would be 1.5:1.
A natural in blackjack pays 3:2. If you get one the dealer slides you a stack of chips equal to your bet and another one worth half as much.
3:2 would pay out $6300 on that bet.
"Throw the whores at Ras out and it is over - thus the Intrade 3-2 Obama fave odds."
3-2 odds mean that Intrade is saying very loudly "2 out of every 5 times we're this sure about something, it goes the other way" - nothing like "over". Glad to see people using Intrade though.
SO no PM Links then?
But who will speak up for the private insurance companies?

Well there goes my dream of an Armageddon II: The Revenge of Bear.
The sand Obama sculptur was actally defaced by rain. Clearly God is a racist rethuglican. But no worries, I'm sure the SEIU can have it rebuilt in four years at an inflated wage rate.
Old, but I'd never seen it before.
http://youtu.be/27kDtIoL1L4
"we don't take shit from nobody. you got that asshole!"
Yeah, hotel maids and janitor immigrants working at minimum wage are ruining this goddamn country.
I wish you wingnecks could hear your idiot blather as a rational human does.
Yeah, cuz everyone knows it's maid and janitor unions he's referring too. Moron.
"SEIU" - fuckface.
So SEIU is mostly made up of minimum wage janitors? Must suck to have to pay union dues when you're working for minimum wage. Shouldn't the SEIU be fighting for their rights or something?
Why does a purported "libertarian" have a problem with private collective bargaining?
You support a cartel but not a few janitors joining into a mop alliance.
Really - fuck off.
That's not what I said. I said that you're being disingenuous claiming that the SEIU is just a bunch of hardworking immigrant maids. Your red herring response indicates I was correct in that assessment.
That labor cartel is the beneficiary of a lot of federal protections. It's not like it's the free market that makes employers deal with unions when they don't want to.
As long as they aren't negotiating with tax payers or receiving special dispensation from government, no libertarian objects to collective bargaining.
As far as public contracts go, even that sniveling communist FDR knew it was a disaster in the making.
The sand Obama sculptur was actally defaced by rain.
You mean that sculpture in the first photo? I thought it was of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Weekly Standard is saying the theme is going to be "We Make It Possible!". Isn't that just another way of saying "You Didnt Build That!"? Are these people retarded?
"Governance! Governance!"
ROADZ!!!!!!
That has to be a joke. No one is that stupid outside of a Dilbert cartoon.
Not only is it a stupid slogan in its own right, it's prolonging the story of Obama's quote. He did the politically smart thing by trying to "contextualize" it so that it would go away in the days after that quote first hit the news. And now they're trying to bring it back?
It is one of the leads on drudge right now. It is not a joke
Aside from the CBS piece with the mayor of Charlotte, every link I'm seeing for that statement is based on the Weekly Standard.
Reading the CBS version (sorry, but Wkly Std has every reason to be unfair to BO) of the story, it appears that the mayor was referring to the city's motto not the theme of the convention. I'm unable to find the City of Charlotte's motto via Google.
OK, the Charlotte city motto is "What We Dream, We Do" according to this non-authoritative site (though they did get Chicago, Las Vegas, and Buffalo right, so that's a good sign). So maybe it is the convention's motto.
I doubt they would make up such an easily checked fact
Unfortunately, partisan news outlets can fib all they want because their side will forget it ever happened in a few days.
You can't lie about something like that. You spin and distort but you don't make up something that daily verified you dope
We'll see. Breitbart got away with that Dept of Ag shenanigan with his loyal followers.
Shut uP you dope. And Britbart didn't get away with anything. The point of the video was everyone cheering her sticking it to white people. It didn't matter she later repented.
If you have a link to another theme provide it.
She didn't have to repent, as she didn't discriminate against that white farmer. Which was the extremely important detail Breitbart "overlooked".
I could be wrong, it happens quite often, but didn't the original piece put up by andrew start with something like "context is everthing!" He was trying to point out that the naacp was taking repuplicans out of context and calling them racist and well 2 can play that game. Unfortunately no one paid attention and just ran with the out of context 'gotcha'. Which of course was not a gotcha if media had bothered to do just a little bit of work on it. Or not.
That's not how it was reported, even in conservative outlets. The rest of the video came to light several days after the administration fired the poor woman.
After Shirley Sherrod protested her innocence, Breitbart claimed he never had the full video and his "source" had only sent him the edited version. So, no, it wasn't a case of other people failing to do the research.
He started pushing the "context is everything" crap after the full video came out and showed she was actually saying the opposite of what he claimed she was saying. Classic partisan hack backtracking after he was shown wrong. He should have been suspicious of the edited video to begin with, but as often happens, our skepticism takes a coffee break when something too good not to be true comes along.
I hate the BO administration as much as anyone here, and am one of the few people actually taking action to defeat them here. But intellectual dishonesty is just as bad.
Like I said I could be wrong. Anyway, I'll leave you John to it.
So the DNC is making up a theme and keeping it secret? How is the Weekly Standard the only news outlet that's aware of this the night before the convention starts.
Just because they are the only ones reporting it doesn't mean they are the only ones who know it.
You really are a contrarian fuckhead. No wonder everyone on here hates you.
If maintaining skepticism in the face of something people want to believe makes me a "contrarian", guilty as charged. The surviving rabbit is wary of traps.
You would have thought the story was about Obama going Sandusky on little boys or something. It is not exactly a big scandal that they would use that theme. It sounds completely plausible they would.
You are just a contrarian fuckhead who likes to ruin threads. Again, no wonder so many people hate you.
You just said that this means the DNC is retarded.
Oh, and really, what's with the insults? You only serve to make yourself look childish. If I were the type to run away and cry over insults I would have been gone in 2007.
You would have thought the story was about Obama going Sandusky on little boys or something. It is not exactly a big scandal that they would use that theme. It sounds completely plausible they would.
If it's important enough for you to post it's important enough for me to fact-check. Good thing I did, too, since it turned out that unthinkably, the Weekly Standard was distorting the truth.
We Make It Possible
Corruption and graft on a previously unheard of scale? Yep, that would be the proglodytes great accomplishment.
LOLOLOLOLOL.
You're wrong, John. That's not the convention theme chosen by the Dems. It's a promo phrase the city itself is using to promote ITSELF.
Now that TWS has moved it out from behind the paywall I was able to check the source. As often happens, partisans were distorting the facts.
Oh, but it was run on Drudge so it must be the pure unadulterated truth!
I know people hate me for calling out their bullshit. But no one else seems to be interested in fact checking around here, so I guess I'll be the sin eater.
I don't think anyone here hates you for pointing out that the city thought of it (except John). That would be a ridiculous thing to disagree over.
I think it's more that no one cares if it's the DNC motto or the city's self-promotion. It's interesting to know, but hardly worth it to most posters here (at least at this time of night). Kudos to you for pointing it out though; like I said, it IS rather interesting (and cringingly hilarious).
Holy shit. I thought the whole black Jesus thing was a parody. Check out the 'bizzaro world calendars' link at the top of the article and scroll to the bottom and last example. They really are a parody of themselves.
Holy shit that is insane
I posted before I read everything. This 'We make it possible' shit is more unbelievable. I knew they were stupid and tone deaf, but....just wow.
BTW...who was it here that jokingly predicted the return of parachute pants a few days ago? I just came home from shopping at Sam's with the wife and they had two large racks of parachute pants. To the person who made that prediction, I tip my hat.
I think I'm going to be sick.
Why is there a sand sculpture of Nipsey Russel in Charlotte?
I thought it was Uncle Remus in a coat and tie.
Nipsy was great on "Match Game."

The Rethugs have Clint, but his Obamaness has Harold and Kumar

In the war of celebrity endorsements you're rolling out Harold and Kumar to counter Clint Eastwood? Go hang yourself.
I was about to post that as well. Read the comments at huffpo and barf:(
How come the skit doesn't end with the DEA busting down their door and shooting them to death?
Kumar actually worked for the White House. Your tax dollars went to pay his salary for a brief time. To Kumar. From Harold and Kumar. He worked in the West Wing.

"How come the skit doesn't end with the DEA busting down their door and shooting them to death?"
'Cause the had a dog and it got shot?
Well, pet drug abuse is a seriously under-reported problem.
The LAT (I'm surprised that they picked up on this late) is comparing Obama to the "Governator". Unpopular policies, but high on likeability.
So he may win, but still lose, because by late 2014, he'll be lame duck. If Obamacare isn't anything other than a sterling success, the GOP will hold the advantage.
BTW, I'm not rich, so it makes sense for me not to buy healthcare but pay the penalty for at least the first two years. Or maybe I won't even pay the penalty, depending on how competent the IRS and co. is at prosecuting those who won't pay insurance.
If I get sick, I'll get health insurance at the last minute. This plan will work for the nation.
^This. Obamacare is those two things, working in concert to destroy the private insurance industry. The whole plan is to watch it fall apart and then come back in fifteen years (tops) and say "Look we tried the free market, it didn't work, now we have to go with the proven NHS style system the English have had for decades."
This is what they do, this is who they are. They will turn us all to beggars because they're easier to please.
Not seeing how that's a loss for Obama, as XM claims it is.
So he may win, but still lose, because by late 2014, he'll be lame duck.
Or a mad duck. Executive orders banning hi-cap magazines and semiautomatic rifles, setting carbon emission caps, setting maximum sodium content in foods, oh and plus a couple more "kinetic actions" around the world as well as nominating Scalia and Kennedy's replacements on SCOTUS.
He will be a lame duck from day one. His winning will be a disaster for the Dems. The Dems are not taking back Congress. No way will the country leave him up there without adult supervision again. And if the media manages to drag his sorry ass across the finish line, he won't have ran on anything. He will spend four years ruling by executive order and destroying the party.
And obama is very unlikely to win. All of the polls are seriously over sampling Dems and even those are showing Romney with a small lead. The polls showed Republicans with a small lead going into 2010. And it was the biggest blowout in over a hundred years. If the election happened today, Obama would lose big time and he knows it. That is why they are so desperate and nasty.
The polls showed Republicans with a small lead going into 2010.
That is not true.
Real clear politics showed Republicans taking over the senate. And they actually took less House seat then projected in polls.
The polls showed Republicans winning the house and taking seats in the senate with a slightly greater chance of taking the senate then not...it was MSM that was in denial not the polls.
Captain Worf
Wait for it:
Captain Worf
So wait for it: Captain Worf
Probably better than Enterprise.
Of course he loves the character. It's the only thing that ever made him money.
Slightly related: one of Dorn's favorite Star Trek episodes is The Drumhead. It's fitting for this site.
I was nearly pinned to a wall on a sidewalk when a bunch of union T-shirt-wearing teenagers caught a glimpse of Jesse Jackson nearby in the backseat of a sedan.
Like I said before, this country deserves its assfucking good and hard.
"I was nearly pinned to a wall on a sidewalk when a bunch of union T-shirt-wearing teenagers caught a glimpse of Jesse Jackson nearby in the backseat of a sedan."
Hey, if any one of them has a camera, just show it! JJ will be out of that car in a New York minute, smilin' and stylin'!
Is there any significant upshot to this?
Yeah. It's the Stupid Party vs. the Batshit Crazy Party.
No shit fatty. The Republicans are stupid and often vile. But the fucking Dems have lost their minds.
Remind me which is which?

This is one of the most devastating political ads I have ever seen. I can't see how anyone could watch this and think Obama deserves re-election, unless you are just a shreek level demented retard.
Linky no worky for me.

Sorry about that.
I guess I'm too jaded. It did nothing for me. thanks though.
Jesus, this fuck of a president probably doesn't even take a shit unless it is in the script.
Probably sounds like Dubyah's speech. And Reagan.
AND EVERY other GodDamned candidate for ever.
^^^ poor Jeff.
I think Reagan's was more like
1980: I will get the economy moving again. Vote for me.
1984: Mission Accomplished. Reelect me.
And in 2000 W was against nation building. 2004 W...well, I don't even need to say it.
unless you are just a shreek level demented retard.
I respond with a quote from the greatest philosopher of the last 40 years, George Carlin: "Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!"
Dear Republicans:
In 2016, please hold your convention in Boise, Idaho. No hurricanes, a very red state, no tornadoes, low crime, clean air, pretty views.
Sincerely
Someone who doesn't give a shit.
The Dems should hold theirs in Mogadishu.
Theme: "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN RETHUGLICANS RULE"
I thought republicans were responsible for alabama. Us libertarians get the credit for mogadishu.
Jeff,
Any comments about the DEMOCRAPS?
Or are you just a blue troll?
Baltimore? East. St. Louis? Detroit?
I'm sure there are Republican strongholds that are hellholes, but most of those in the US are Democratic machine controlled...
San Francisco? Newark? Chicago? Stockton? Vallejo?
Hey, Jeff! What about them DEMOCRAPS?
"Rethuglicans" are Islamist warlords? Who knew?
I want my RPG!!
He built that city.
On Rock and Roll.
So he didn't even help write/record/produce/build that city.
Actually, Obama was talking to the SWAT team about to bust down their door.
god damn squirrels.
Fuck the squirrels, man.
That Slate article about the Obama calendar just has to be a joke. It just has to...
The August picture has Obama's birth certificate and a quotation of John 3:16. Really. No kidding. They are actually saying Obama is the straight-up messiah.
Has to be a spoof. Can't be real.
Sometimes you jsut gotta roll with it dude.
