MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell: Mocking Obama's Golfing is an Attempt to Portray Him as an Oversexed Black Man
Via Hot Air and Washington Free Beacon comes signs that MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell is really losing whatever marbles he still has.
Indeed, O'Donnell's explication of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's speech at the Republican National Convention should be indicted for torture.
As might be expected from a career politician with next-to-zero personality and principles, the Kentucky Republican's talk is a standard-issue attack on President Obama's ineffectiveness. Among the few attempts at liveliness was this jibe at Obama's well-documented penchant for golfing:
For four years, Barack Obama has been running from the nation's problems.
He hasn't been working to earn reelection. He's been working to earn a spot on the PGA tour.
Mitt Romney has spent his entire life finding ways to solve problems.
Here's O'Donnell talking with Martin Bashir on MSNBC:
O'DONNELL: Well, we know exactly what he's trying to do there. He is trying to align to Tiger Woods and surely, the — lifestyle of Tiger Woods with Barack Obama. Obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. They find every way they possibly can to –
BASHIR: Lawrence — don't you think — don't you think that what he's really trying to do is to suggest that the president is not paying attention to the central issues that come with the responsibility he has? Is he really – Mitch McConnell really making a connection with Tiger Woods who, of course, has become infamous for chasing various cocktail waitresses around Las Vegas and so on?
O'DONNELL: Martin, there are many, many, many rhetorical choices you can make at any point in any speech to make whatever point up want to make. If he wanted to make the point that you just suggested and I think he does want to make that point, they had a menu of a minimum of ten different kinds of images that they could have raised. And I promise you, the speech writers went through, rejecting three or four before they land order that one. That's the one they want for a very deliberate reason. That — there's – these people reach for every single possible racial double entendre they can find in every one of these speeches.
You got that linkage? Golf signals not indifference to work but racial solidarity between the first black president and the first great black golfer, who is also a well-known skirt chaser, which means, what, that McConnell and his speechwriters are trying to turn family man Obama - who has never had even the whiff of a sex scandal - into the familiar stereotype of an oversexed black man.
Such linkage, however clever, reveals exactly nothing about Mitch McConnell, his speechwriters, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, or anybody else. It does, however, reveal something extremely screwed-up about Lawrence O'Donnell. And helps explain why MSNBC is hitting the skids.
When Obama first entered office, I was not optimistic about any of his policy proposals but I did think his election would help put racial divisions behind us as a country. That clearly hasn't happened, not because of anything Obama has said or done but because of nutjobs like O'Donnell saying what they're saying.
O'Donnell has a knack for being wrong. Here he is, showing he's got no idea what he's talking about when it comes to Reason.

How fucking nuts do you have to be to make Bashir look reasonable?
The preemptive excuse-making has begun. They will have a ready-made explanation if Obama loses.
What do you mean, "will," Eddie? They already have one. Racism. Because somehow after electing our first black president we've become more racist during his tenure.
I'm not sure which is worse - those who sincerely believe this because of limited reasoning skills or learned victimhood, or those who know it's wrong but cynically "believe" this because they're partisan hacks and the end justifies the means.
He was just elected so we could use him as cover for our racism.
Nice.

The crazy is strong in that one. Be careful, Nick, you spend too much time listening to the crazy and then it starts to seem kinda normal.
Don't you know that the stereotype most strongly associated with golf is a black man? That's why it was OK to make fun of Bush for playing golf on his time off, but not Obama.
Lawrence O'Donnell uses dog whistle to call the president a typical lazy, distracted, black man.

Bagger Vance?
"Oversexed" is a negative thing? Remember, we're not talking about Warty here.
wait, I thought Warty was a pure-as-snow virgin, immune to mortal temptations. Why have I been lied to?
That clearly hasn't happened, not because of anything Obama has said or done...
Other than injecting himself into issues with racial overtones, such as the Gates issue -- the police acted stupidly -- and the Martin/Zimmerman case -- if he had a son, he'd look like Trayvon -- I guess maybe that's right.
I would never purposely or accidentily link the dipshit known as Barak to Tiger Woods who actually has extrordinary talent and a hall-of-fame career under his belt.
And that isn't all he has under his belt!
Sorry, that was racist, wasn't it?
Well, Tiger is half-Asian, so he might not have much under his belt.
Oh shit, that was racist too!
Not necessarily
Damn, even Canucks and Greenlanders aren't as pathetics as we are [sobs!]
Who knew Canadians were swinging "heavy lumber"?
I see a trip to South America in my future....
As somebody said yesterday, if you hear the dog whistle, that means you're a dog.
These hypersensitive progs have to be the most racist people on the planet. If any reference to a black person immediately calls up the most negative stereotypes imaginable in your mind, I think its you who have the problem.
This wasn't even a reference to a black person. It was a reference to a sport.
That ? there's ? these people reach for every single possible racial double entendre they can find in every one of these speeches.
Gosh, Larry- is there anyone else of whom this might be said?
mel brooks?
God, I hate these guys. I hate them because they're dangerous and they seem to be stupid enough not to realize the seeds they are sowing. Go to any left leaning rag, whether on the web or in print and read the comments. They are unhinged and divorced from reality. Now I'm not saying the right is much better but I just don't see the foaming at the mouth shit I see from progs. The folks here seem to get it's all a game but a wide swath, both left and right don't get it. And they are fired up, talking revolution, just freaking losing it.
Then a dick like O'Donnell keeps pumping up the crazy and I keep thinking about this from Orwell: ""So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don't even know that fire is hot."
I just don't see the foaming at the mouth shit I see from progs
Now that's surprising. Ever gone to any piece linked by Drudge? That will cure you of any inclination to believe that there isn't widespread racism on the right in this country.
Both sides engage in the cult of the presidency, assuming he is the be-all end-all of American policy and has much more power than he does. But the right truly, viciously hates him, and in an even darker and more disturbing way than they did Clinton, for obvious reasons. It's all the result of nonstop agitprop of course, but that you don't see it can only mean you never go to any of their sites.
But the right truly, viciously hates him, and in an even darker and more disturbing way than they did Clinton, for obvious reasons.
Because he constantly lies about what vile, disgusting people they are?
You might have a point as I don't troll obscure websites looking for crazy righties. All I have to do is go to the occasional article linked from sites like this to the NYTs, the Washington Post, etc., you know, mainstream press to get full blown lefty crazy.
I can't speak for conservatives as I'm not one but my own dislike of Obama comes from reading his books, looking at who he associates with, listening to his rhetoric and understanding that his mental image of the U.S. so fundamentally disagrees with mine. I've disliked other presidents too, more so in fact. Wilson and FDR top my worst list. In fact, if I had to produce a worst list Obama would be down the list a couple of pegs. But that is only because he is just building on the progressive foundations laid down by the two mentioned above and the line of others, like Bush II, who followed.
Clinton didn't push conservative buttons as badly because he was more of an opportunist who kept a finger aloft always checking the political winds. Obama is a socialist. I dislike socialists. It really is that simple. Frankly, I think that is what motivates most of the ill will towards Obama, not that he's black. I'm not saying that there aren't people for whom his race is the issue, but it seems to me to be a minuscule portion of the electorate.
Also your "for obvious reasons" speaks volumes about you. Not sure if that was your intent.
"agitprop"
Like what O'Donnell did here?
Now I'm not saying the right is much better but I just don't see the foaming at the mouth shit I see from progs.
I will have to disagree with you there. Just pay attention over the next few months as "Christmas season" starts up (not sure why Christmas needs a whole season and not just the two week break anymore) and the right goes apeshit over the supposed war on religion. I think it's absurd that a Nativity scene can't be displayed on public property, but I also think it is retarded to force a cashier who is coached to say "Happy holidays" into saying "Merry Christmas".
The difference between the two which does actually make the left worse is that they simultaneously try to portray themselves as more intelligent than the right.
I'm an openly, although not militant, atheist living in the Bible-belt and I just don't see it this way. You don't understand why a Nativity scene can't be displayed on public property but dispute that there are some out there who are trying to push religion from the public sphere?
Given, some on the right take it to extremes but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you right? IIRC, the whole Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas row came out of a PC drive pushing retailers to have employees use the non-religion specific "Happy Holidays" in the first place. In other words who fired the first shots in that particular instance of the culture wars?
Christ, you need a super computer to crack all these dog whistle codewords.
Nah, its easy.
Did someone criticize Obama? If so, DOG WHISTLE! RACIZM!

Art imitates reality.
Three and half years ago, I wrote in this very august comment board "In the age of Obama, everyone will be racist for 15 minutes."
I thought I was being clever and witty. [most people who know me wouldn't use those words to describe me]
I guess I was just being prescient.
"Oversexed" is not a term I'd ever associate with Obama. If anything I'd categorize him as a metrosexual. And he wears mom jeans.
I know, right? I mean, we finally get a black guy as President, and we get the worst one available. Seriously, I would prefer a cool black guy as President. My short list:
1. Jay-Z
2. Rod Gilmore
3. Thomas Sowell
I would take Snoop Lion over Obama.
Snoop Lion/Ice Cube 2012
"Might as well elect some real live gangstaz."
"Might as well elect some enterprising and successful Capitalistz."
I see a lot of delusion on the Team Red blogs about Mittens and
Obama - who has never had even the whiff of a sex scandal
Well, there are the rumors that he has had some down low life... someone even wrote a book claiming that.
Even star-fuckers don't want to get on the wrong side of Michelle.
They know that it's wise to let the Wookie win.
As if the democrats give a damn if there was a sex scandal, they wouldn't care if he lied under oath or on his application to Columbia.
Inanity all around.
MSNBC should change the name of Lawrence O'Donnell's show to "What the Hell Is Lawrence O'Donnell Talking About?"
On behalf of honest skirt chasers everywhere, I'd like to tell Mr. O'Donnell that we find being compared to Barack Obama highly offensive!
"The Friends of Ben Akselrod sent the mailers last week, claiming that his opponent 'has allowed crime to go up over 50% in our negrohood so far this year.'
Akselrod didn't specify Wednesday whether his campaign intended to use the word 'neighborhood' instead."
Little help please. If this made me laugh does it make me a racist?

I always thought that Obama's golf habit meant that he was in touch with his inner cracker. Guess I was wrong.
"When Obama first entered office, I was not optimistic about any of his policy proposals but I did think his election would help put racial divisions behind us as a country. That clearly hasn't happened, not because of anything Obama has said or done but because of nutjobs like O'Donnell saying what they're saying."
See, i think that will actually actually end up helping race relations in the end. After all, the O'Donnells of the world are going to cynically play the race card at every possible moment, no matter how obviously wrong and ridiculous it is. They did it before Obama hit the stage, they will do it after he is gone. The difference is that now their cartoonish claims of racism are so much in the public eye that every reasonable American will have to see them for what they are, cynical attempts to use the charge of racism to cover for any and every real fault.
I anticipated that it would actual provide fuel for the racist. They will use the utter incompetence and inadequacy of Obama as "proof" that black people are inferior. It would have been better for race relations if our first not-entirely-caucasian president was actually a good president, or, at the very least, a not horrible president.
The libtards will explode in race baiting rage if Obama loses. At most, the righties will just blame themselves quietly and work for 2016. That should be enough for Libertarians to favor Romney this time.
A reminder, for those who just don't get how to use a word properly:

When I think Golf, I think, "Oversexed Black Man"
Then I think, "What the fuck was I just thinking?"
