Texas Doctors Flee Medicaid

Declining reimbursement means it's not worth physicians' time to take patients from the program

More Texas doctors are leaving the Medicaid system and fewer than one-third are accepting new Medicaid patients. That's the lowest percentage ever, according to recently released numbers from the Texas Medical Association.

As fewer small clinics and doctor's offices treat Medicaid patients, big clinics and hospitals with the institutional resources to withstand the Medicaid process are picking up the slack.
