Matt Welch on Unthinkable, Predictable Economic Disasters
You can't plan for disasters by refusing to talk about them. Yet when it comes to both the disintegration of the euro and America's looming entitlement bomb, Europeans and Americans alike display similar habits of mind in the way they talk about, and mostly avoid talking about, these utterly predictable yet practically unfathomable fiscal maladies. But in a sense that doesn't matter. As Editor in Chief Matt Welch explains in Reason's August/September issue, we will soon face an economic reality so brutal that all the usual incentives for kicking the can down the road will no longer apply.
