White House: No Fast and Furious Cover Up, Scientists Make Bird Flu More Pandemic-y, U.K. and Singapore Welcome Tax Refugees: P.M. Links
- The White House says there's no cover up in the administration's refusal to surrender documents related to the Fast and Furious fiasco, and that Eric Holder retains Obama's confidence. (Well … he does know where the documents are buried.) The parents of Brian Terry, a Border Patrol agent slain by a gunwalked weapon, aren't buying it.
- To show just how potentially dangerous bird flu can be, scientists induced five genetic changes in the virus, making it transmittable through the air. Jeez, people, have none of you seen any made-for SyFy movies? This ends badly.
- Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain promises a warm welcome for any French citizens who flee across the Channel to escape pending tax hikes in their home country. "When France sets a 75 percent top income tax rate we will roll out the red carpet, and we will welcome more French businesses which will pay their taxes in Britain."
- Singapore is happily exploiting its tax-haven status to attract businesses from Europe — even under-cutting traditionally low-tax Switzerland, which has become reticent about negotiating rates under pressure from the EU.
- The trumped-up arrest of a motorcyclist to cover a deputy's grab for the rider's helmet-cam footage sparked a Dallas Sheriff's Office internal affairs investigation. A former Dallas County prosecutor says the deputy clearly stepped over the line because "you did need a warrant to get that piece of evidence."
- Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom met with Steve Wozniak as he develops a new service intended to help artists sell directly to consumers. Despite his legal troubles, he may have reason to return to business matters — a retired federal judge has called U.S. government conduct in the case "outrageous" and the FBI concedes it could take years to extradite him from New Zealand, even assuming the feds stop pissing off the judges in that country.
- Your tykes may not be stoners after all. New research shows that baby soap and shampoo can trigger false-positive test results for marijuana — a bit of an issue in an era when newborns are often screened for drugs.
- A Secret Service agent and a Massachusetts state policeman, both assigned to the vice president's protective detail, violently assaulted three Air Force officers, also assigned to that detail, during a vacation stay on Nantucket last Thanksgiving. President Camacho had no comment. (HT Karl Hungus)
- The NSA tells Senators Wyden and Udall that counting the number of Americans spied upon without a warrant under FISA is "beyond the capacity" of the agency. If that answer sounds familiar, it should — they've been using it for two administrations. (HT juris imprudent)

"The fight started just after midnight on Nov. 24, 2011, when, according to the police report, Gahagan accused the Air Force men of taking photos of him dancing with female Secret Service agent Yumi Kim, according to the police report. "
God is real, he has a great sense of humor.
takes an awfully big dick, or sense of having such, to accuse someone of taking your picture in a public place, as though the photog broke some law.
You can say that again.
Nicely played...
takes an awfully big dick, or sense of having such, to accuse someone of taking your picture in a public place, as though the photog broke some law.
takes an awfully big dick small brain, or sense of having such lack of awareness of such, to accuse someone of taking your picture in a public place, as though the photog broke some law.
I know the correction is implied when we're talking about government betters, but I FIFY'd anyway.
I weigh about the same as Dawes. But I am aided by massive alcohol consumption. Who cares? let's go Dawes! I am afeared that he is crazier than I am though. We all know that the crazy guy doesn't know when to stop.
If you're an Asian chick looking to break into porn, you couldn't choose a better handle than Yumi Kim. Not sure how it didn't keep her out of the Secret Service, though.
...and that Eric Holder retains Obama's confidence.
The administration isn't even politically astute enough to cut Holder loose on this? Maybe they could pull a Dubya and wait until after the election to announce the resignation, angering a bunch of Dem congressmen.
There's an obvious explanation for why they can't throw the guy who knows how far up this goes under the bus.
It almost assuredly won't happen, but a presidency-ending scandal over this would be delicious beyond comprehension.
BEYOND COMPREHENSION.
I wish all presidencies could end like that.
If only. Each president would see how long they could last before getting booted, and hopefully jailed. That would make the presidency exiting, at least.
It should be incredibly easy to remove people from office. Like whimsically easy. This is why I advocate. . .THE CENSOR!
Don't say the kid's name, vic!
It's funny you should say that, because when I type "THE CENSOR!" I hear it in the same manner and voice as Michael Palin saying, "THE BISHOP!"
"Don't say the kid's name, vic!"
Do you hear the music too?
If a president is removed from office, can he run again?
Depends on how he's removed. If he's convicted in impeachment proceedings, Congress has the power to ban him from political office, too.
I would respect him much more if he did.
Fucking great idea. Each president is elected to an unlimited term, subject to complete disclosure of his and his Cabinet's and advisors' activities to the opposing parties. Anything goes until the inevitable takedown under shameful circumstances.
I'm thinking this is a nice little insurance policy if Obama wins in November. Assuming the Repubs keep the House, anyway.
Yep. The administration must be, um, sweating bullets.
It almost assuredly won't happen, but a presidency-ending scandal over this would be delicious beyond comprehension.
It's more likely than you think, all it's going to take is one pissed off asshole from Obama's team to start leaking and giving Obama's narcissism there's sure to be more than one ready to blow.
Maybe it's like when a head coach gets a vote of confidence from the GM 2 days before he's fired?
This ends badly.
With Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow in the same film.
I'm sure it doesn't. Too bad they forgot make no helmet cam video exist, either.
I'm surprised the cop didnt throw the guy's helmet into the drink then cite him for riding without one.
He would have, except this was the rare event where the copper wanted the video because he thought it showed the other riders being all illegal. Unfortunately it was only later that the copper came to realize it just showed his own fat ass being criminal.
I've seen something like that. A cop confiscated my driver's license and then gave me a ticket for driving without a license.
I have been so lucky in my life to mostly get warnings. My best story is the time I was 17 and a cop who was clocking drivers in the other direction jumped out of his car and ran in front of me, I was surprised, pulled over, and when he came up to my window started yelling about how he could have shot at me if I didn't stop. Then yelled at me about how if he ever saw me again, he would get me. Keep in mind that this was like 3 miles from my house. I left with a warning because he had nothing on me. He saw a pickup truck in the left lane accelerating and assumed it was going over the speed limit(at worst, I was 5 over on a 35 mph road with no traffic, and I mean no traffic), so he decided he could yell at me. Now that I'm older, I would have been sassy with him. That guy was a fucking asshole. Not like the time I actually got a speeding ticket(speed trap in the last 20 miles of 95 in VA where the speed limit drops to 65 instead of 70, no traffic again). That guy was just out to make money.
SOCCER MOM ALERT: New craze! Your teenagers are buying baby soaps and shampoos and using them to get high. Lawmakers summoned to the rescue. Film at 11.
I caught them huffing Mr. Bubble!
can we stop with the euphemisms re: Brian Terry and just say the man was murdered, and by his own govt, at least indirectly. He did not lose his life, he was not killed like someone might be in a car crash, he did not die of disease.
He was murdered and this use of executive privilege after Holder's shows before committees along with the dump of meaningless documents is a distraction.
Wasn't he involved in a firefight on the border, going after would-be robbers of drug runners?
I'm sorry, but he signed up to be an active participant in an immoral drug war our government is waging, and he trained specifically for this type of mission. And yes, it is tragic that he was murdered, but he put himself in harms way.
If you want to talk about the innocent victims of FyF, talk about the hundreds of Mexicans that have been killed by these guns that aren't armed to the teeth running around in armor-plated trucks looking for trouble, but are just caught in the crossfire of an idiotic drug war our government is waging against the very people it is arming.
^THIS^
plus one
Guns don't kill Mexicans - Mexicans do.
Are you a Mexican? Or a Mexican't?
Suddenly I am the last pro-gun pro-free trade poster here.
Suddenly I am the last pro-gun pro-free trade poster Team Blue sycophant troll piece of amphibian shit here.
Hardly!
You do remain the only poster here whose breath smells like Obamas colon.
**cough**T O N Y**cough**
You do remain the only poster here whose breath smells like Obamas colon.
The fact that shriek regularly posts over at the DU, under the name "Banned from Kos," doubtless has something to do with that.
Remember: shrike claims to be a Goldwater fan, but he only votes for Democrats.
As his DU posting record, below, conclusively demonstrates: shrike is nothing more than a dully obvious Team Blue automaton -- just a troll, and a bumbling, inept one at that.
I never said the guns did, you stupid fucking twat. I said they were innocent victims in the drug war our government is waging against people we are also arming. Take off your fucking Team Blue blinders and join some of us here in the real motherfucking world, where there are consequences for idiotic government programs, like death and destruction to foreigners that have never done a goddamn thing to negatively effect America.
You need a lesson in reading comprehension, Shrikey-poo, because if you think I said "guns kill people, hurr durr" in my above missive, then you're stupider than Mary Fucking Stack in a coma. As a matter of fact, don't take a lesson in reading comprehension. Use your time more wisely and suck-start a 10-gauge.
Hallelujah, holy shit! Where's the tylenol?
Wrong.
talk about the hundreds of Mexicans that have been killed by these guns
You said that GUNS KILL MEXICANS.
Because Obama is selling guns you are against them now.
Typical GOP stunt.
Context, asshole. Here is the entire paragraph:
If you want to talk about the innocent victims of FyF, talk about the hundreds of Mexicans that have been killed by these guns that aren't armed to the teeth running around in armor-plated trucks looking for trouble, but are just caught in the crossfire of an idiotic drug war our government is waging against the very people it is arming.
Only a disingenuous cuntrag would twist it to have me say inanimate objects are killing people. Especially in light of my many posts on guns in the past. But no, you can't do that, can you? Because you're not here to have intelligent discourse, but rather you're here to shit up every thread you can because you think it's fun to go play the big, bad Team Blue anonopussy on a libertarian website. You think you're really special and cute the way you trot out your Team Blue talking points and move goalposts around at nearly the speed of light.
And it's sad, because I was dumb enough to fucking engage you. I should be ashamed of myself. I really should. Because I'm constantly reminded on here why you are taken with little more regard than a soiled diaper. It happens every time you post on a thread. Jesus, I feel so dirty having merely responding to you. I need to go shower off.
Banjos isn't reading this, is she? I hate the thought of what that level of stupidity might do to a fetus.
Ever since that tractor accident, Shriek is no longer capable of passing in his stupidity.
I am beyond everyone here. The only government I have argued FOR is the Federal Reserve and environmental protection.
Fuck the ATF. Eliminate it. But I never hear a GOPer suggest it.
And the War of Drugs is the great failure of my lifetime.
Fuck the ATF. Eliminate it. But I never hear a GOPer suggest it.
Then perhaps you should spend a little more time on blogs full of GOP fanboys instead of coming on a libertarian site and accusing us of being Team Red cheerleaders
So it's safe to conclude that you are either a mental midget that cannot differentiate between libertarians and Team Red, or you are a malignant dildo-head that deliberately comes on here spouting nonsense in an attempt to ruin discourse.
Those are the only two explanations for your behavior. Which one is it?
Bullshit.
I am seriously interested in eliminating big chunks of government. But the GOP expands government faster than Democrats can pay for it.
Bullshit.
I am seriously interested in eliminating big chunks of government. But the GOP expands government faster than Democrats can pay for it.
There. I took out all of your bullshit and distilled it down to what you spew on here every day. I mean, seriously, if you are trying to tell us all the spending can be attributed to Team Red when your guys are equally culpable, then your words must be discarded for the utter rubbish they are.
I never said "all".
The last beg spending Dem was the awful LBJ - war, Medixxxx, and other poverty programs that failed.
Carter, Clinton and Obama have not increased spending half as much as Reagan and Dumbya.
Carter increased the scope of government and put in place programs where spending has exploded (Hello Department of Energy and Department of Education). And while Clinton the populist may have slowed the growth, he was spending more at the end of his term than at the beginning...and spent more each year than he did in the preceding one. As far as Obama is concerned, he has also increased outlays by almost a trillion dollars a year from when he was elected. Besides, Congress passes the bills, and last I checked, Team Blue has been at the helm as much if not more than Team Red has been since the 60's, when spending really exploded.
So don't give me this "Team Red is worse than Team Blue crap." Both vigorously wage wars overseas. They collectively run our legislature and have ballooned spending. They both pass laws that infringe on our liberty. And they both are thieving our and our childrens' futures because they don't give a fuck about anybody but their own political futures, so they buy votes with giveaways, subsidies and other bullshit programs.
They're both evil. I see it, most of the libertarian folks on here see it, but for some reason you can't get it through your thick, waterlogged head that your guys are just as shitty as the dumbasses across the aisle.
Christ, you're just hopeless in your partisan hackery.
Please provide links to any/all such calls for the reduction of federal government that you've posted on the Democratic Underground boards, under your identity there as "Banned from Kos."
You fool no one here, you mouth-breathing little maladroit.
Two sadly representative examples of shriek's (a.k.a. "Banned from Kos") "small government" advocacy, over at the DU:
"I am FOR higher taxes [...] A 50% tax on all income gets us to break even."
"If you are NOT pro-Obama you are my enemy."
'Nuff Said.
Sugarfree'd the links. Try these, instead:

No, but she's dumbing herself down as well on Facebook and the Curt Schilling thread as we speak. I better put a stop to it or somebody might call the Department of Fetal Protective Services and have the baby removed and put into a foster womb.
Don't give them any ideas.
Don't bring a beanbag to a gun fight.
And yes, it is tragic that he was murdered, but he put himself in harms way.
In other words, he was fragged by the administration.
...counting the number of Americans spied upon without a warrant under FISA is "beyond the capacity" of the agency.
You know what they should do? They should take the total number of Americans they've spied on and then subtract the number of warrants they've secured and then multiply the difference by fuck you.
I think this is closer:
"You know what they should do? They should take the total number of Americans ... and then subtract the number of warrants they've secured and then multiply the difference by fuck you."
(300,000,000 - 0) * (FUCK YOU) = FUCK YOU MOAR HARDER
Fuck you, like zero, when multiplied by anything, is fuck you.
Fuck, carry the you, divided by fuck you = Fuck you
That's what Ricky put on his exam to get his grade 10.
Holy shit, I'd swear that was Warty if that guy didn't have a shirt on.
Frick off, ska!

The part that really got me was the "it would violate the privacy of the people we spied on" to disclose that we spied on people.
It sounds like Cameron has put more thought into the consequences of French tax policy than the frogs have.
I assume they're planning on making the tax retroactive and preemptively seizing assets.
Apatheist, you posted this on Judge Napoliltono's article from yesterday:
I did a terminal paper on the Immigration debates of 1920-24, I can tell you that one of the core arguments made by Congressman for banning immigration was that the dregs would come over here and be Catholic and Communist subversives.
A few examples:
Albert Johnson of Washington:
He's talking about Eastern and Southern Europeans here btw.
Harold Knutson of Minnesota
Is that, like, Bunny LaJoya's father, dude?
I fully aware that we were full of nativist assholes back then as well. But at least you are honest about it. I suppose the fact that they were proven wrong doesn't make you reconsider this time around?
Uhhh, I don't agree with them. I was just sharing research I had done in the past that illustrates how their excuses and "warnings" are still the same.
I'm sorry Benji, I thought you were the OP I had responded to, I never returned to that thread.
I know they made the same arguments, and looking back I can see that Cloudbuster replied saying "well that's different".
Thanks for the posts though.
Really, the overall argument is still the same old thing. The Congressmen arguing in favor of immigration were saying all the same stuff too.
Insert tired cliche about history.
That's great, if only aware of how unoriginal their ideas are.

Eastern and Southern Europeans - whose descendants vote largely Democratic. Strikes me that the fears of the "nativists" weren't all that terribly far off. Just sayin'.
Do you have any surveys/polls that show this?
US Olympic Committee Folds in the Face of Pressure from Hardcore Knitters.
One of the conventions in Houston that brings the most money? The quilting convention. They get what they want out of hotels and venues in this town. If you have any sense, you don't schedule your event at the same time because if it comes down to not servicing the quilters or not servicing you, you're gonna lose, every time.
In invoking executive privilege, the Administration asserted that giving lawmakers the requested documents would ... reveal internal executive-branch deliberations.

For the love of God.
But if it is upheld then the Court is pure and noble right?
Wasn't that announcement due yesterday or today latest? What's the latest specualtion on when?
I believe Monday is the last day they will issuing opinions for this term, at least that's what scotusblog said yesterday after the other opinions were released.
So I checked, Monday is the last scheduled day but people who know more than I do say there will likely be another day next week, possibly Wednesday or Thursday.
Possibly Monday, but most likely sometime next week. Are they going to televise the ruling?
No, they do not televise these things.
Monday is the official last day of the term, but, hey, they aren't called the SUPREME Court for nothing. If they want to drag it out a few more days to clean up the bloodstains, they can.
You are seeing the tip of the iceberg of the wailing, rending of garments, and lamentations that will occur if it is struck.
And they will be so very, unbelievably, yummy and sweet.
some of them are going to have some kind of a breakdown I think.
some of them are going to have some kind of a breakdown I think.
One wishes to be working on one of the higher floors of a high-rise building, a few floors below the local DNC headquarters, the day the law is struck. Watching the bodies sail past would be high entertainment.
What's truly absurd is that we have no idea how this will go down.
The state forcing you to engage in commerce is a toss-up? Are you fucking kidding?
It wouldn't be the first time, by any means.
Which is the problem.
Kill Wickard! Kill it with fire!
Buying torches affects Interstate Commerce.
These are recycled torches, fueled with waste oil.
Then you have affected commerce by not purchasing them! HA HA HA HA FUCK YOU, TAXPAYER!
Even if I grow them in my own garden? And only use them for myself and my family and livestock angry mob?
Then they'll send over some Tulsa city workers.
They will be sweet beyond comprehension.
Don't get cocky. I still think its only a little better than 50/50 that they won't uphold the whole damn thing.
I hope we get to witness it. It will be glorious.

Wow is Hannah Rosin a nasty mysandrist. Beyond that she is kidding herself. Between the higher education bubble bursting and the way technology is going, all of these "advantages" Rosin is so proud of are about to disappear. The fact that there are more women than men in college is about to become a bad thing for women. And all of the blue model jobs women are taking are about to disappear.
This article is odious. How did you finish it?
It was tough. I can't believe that women is married. What kind of a self hating person would marry her. And she has sons. Those poor kids don't stand a chance.
Huh....what......I saw Hannah Rosin and dozed off.
If she's right, does that make HampersandR the new Jezebel?
Wow, this article is retarded. And I mean retarded in the LT70 IQ way retarded. It's not even worth responding to in an intellectual way. Because you know, based on what she's saying, men should get some sort of government privilege. She would agree with that, right?
Seriously, this article is maddening. Surprise Surprise, women make out better than men in a world where "diversity" requires women to get more opportunities than men!
Rates of violence committed by middle-aged women have skyrocketed since the 1980s, and no one knows why.
Ooh Ooh! *raises hand*
"I want that white-picket-fence dream," one woman told Edin, and the men she knew just didn't measure up, so she had become her own one-woman mother/father/nurturer/provider.
Ooh Ooh!!! *raises hand*
The whole country's future could look much as the present does for many lower-class African Americans: the mothers pull themselves up, but the men don't follow.
Drug war? Just throwing that out there...
Look, I sound like a misogynistic asshole, but Hannah doesn't even ask whether gender preferential policies in elem/middle/high/college have a role to play. It's just assumed that girls do better because girls do better. She makes a couple of token stabs at pop culture portraying men as dumb, but history extends beyond the last 30 years. And men have been portrayed as dumb in the past.
http://hotair.com/archives/201.....ege-claim/
Even Jon Stewart isn't buying the executive privilege claim.
Stewart leans left, but even he has integrity, unlike the shamless cheerleaders at MSNBC.
Stewart is just giving him shit now so he'll be free to cheerlead for him and suck him off on Live TV in another 120 days. He is a shameless panderer to any and all power brokers on the left, and the Jug-Eared Jesus is the biggest power broker of them all.
He busted him pretty hard on the drone kill-list thing.
Was he "clown nose on" or "clown nose off" when he did it?
Stewart is just giving him shit now so he'll be free to cheerlead for him and suck him off on Live TV in another 120 days.
Or maybe he's an entertainer that got rich by spotting trends early and reflecting them back at his audience. And in this case he hears the ice cracking under O.
And that's a real telling point. For the last couple of months he's been completely unwatchable because of his Obama asslicking in the run-up to the election.
I think he might suspect Obama is a loser and doesn't want to go down with him.
Not all the way, anyway...
With? No. On? Yes.
Who? Holder or Stewart?
It was getting pretty bad when Romney was mopping up the election, but suddenly he's been being pretty evenhanded.
Last couple of months?

The White House says there's no cover up in the administration's refusal to surrender documents
Of course, it would be wrong to point out that if they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to worry about.
I'm fairly certain the documents contain proof that the Obama Administration sold guns to Solyndra in exchange for leaking kill lists.
You know, I could swear I heard something just like this in the early 70s.
I've been reading Hunter S. Thompson's Watergate stuff and what really stands out is how every fucking reporter in DC wanted a piece of Watergate but for the most part they have completely dropped the ball here.
And they wonder why they are going broke.
That's what's amazing. There's a substantial demand for truth out there, especially concerning politics. But they'd rather enter politics than report on it.
Fast and Furious is a great story. It is the kind of thing that sells papers and drives ratings. And they refuse to talk about it.
I wonder if part of the problem is that there's no competition among reporters to get the scoop or otherwise beat the other guys.
Anymore it's all collaboration and hive mind consensus, which accentuates the statist fellatio that has been a huge part of 'journalism' my entire life.
For the young'uns.
Nearly half a million Chevy Cruzes getting recalled. Yep, it's yet another Government Motors car that's in danger of spontaneously turning into a roman candle. They're really doing a heck of a job!
Shit, let all the smug, self-righteous, tax credit taking eco-nuts burn like moths to the flame. The world would be better off for it.
You may be thinking of the Volt. The Cruze is just their shitty Cavalier replacement econo-box.
I think an indication of how much GM's small cars suck is that they have been renaming it constantly. In the compact and sub-compact market Chevy's entry has had... what... 4 names in each segment? How can they expect anyone to think "the small car is excellent" when they keep changing what its called.
I have a lifetime association with British automobiles and bikes that I'm slowly purging from my system (only one left!). Even the Brits on their worst days never made a clutch that sprayed burning hydraulic fluid.
Mainly because their particular genius was to make a vehicle that only ran intermittently, but still. If the acknowledged masters of automotive fail can't pull off the trick you just did, you have won the EPIC FAIL prize.
Ah, yes, tax haven Singapore! Where, I'm told by a colleague who recently moved there, one must pay an import duty equal to 41% of the original purchase price of a car in order to be allowed to purchase it, and a registration fee of $1,000 + 150% of market value.
Don't forget the "Certificate of Entitlement" to own a car that has to be re-upped every 10 years, at a cost of $30k-$40k.
Really, the registration fee is one and half times the value of the car? That blows.
As I understand it, it's as much a traffic mitigation measure as anything.
Yeah I lived in Singapore, it was filthy expensive to have a car so it was full of Mercedes and BMWs because no one else could afford to have one.
There are many ways Singapore is a totalitarian state and that includes economic liberty stuff as well as the more common knowledge stuff like caning and capital punishment for drug dealing.
Caning *and* capital punishment for drug dealing?
So do they cane you and then execute you, or kill you then flog you?
Actually I was saying both caning and capital punishment were things people were aware of but yes in fact sometimes they did cane people and then hang them. And yes, hanging was their form of capital punishment.
We had to watch a video once in school (even though it was an English private school) that was part of their kinda DARE program and they told us how the caners spend six months training just to be able to cane the shit out of people. They also showed how filthy and terrible their prisons were. American DARE programs are hilarious in comparison.
President Camacho had no comment.
History has been made. Reason has finally referred to Obama as President Camacho.
I'm glad I was here to see it.
Camacho was smarter.

She rushes head first into her criticisms of anything Obama or Dem, often without a clue.
Where was she when bush used it 7 times? She was justifying it.
