Ron Paul Roundup: Paul Says He Knows He Doesn't Have Enough Delegates to Win, Victories for the Cause in Massachusetts and California

The media loves an excuse to claim it doesn't have to pay attention to Ron Paul anymore, so has leapt on his email release to supporters yesterday which says in part:

we stand to send nearly 200 bound delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa. This number shatters the predictions of the pundits and talking heads and shows the seriousness of our movement. 

What's more, we will send several hundred additional supporters to Tampa who, while bound to Romney, believe in our ideas of liberty, constitutional government, and a common-sense foreign policy.

When it is all said and done, we will likely have as many as 500 supporters asdelegates on the Convention floor.  That is just over 20 percent!

And while this total is not enough to win the nomination, it puts us in a tremendous position to grow our movement and shape the future of the GOP!

The media is focusing on the first clause of that last sentence, but the real story is the second part.

Many folk in this Daily Paul comment thread unhappy with the announcement–many even thinking it fake at first. Many Paul folk don't believe there's any such thing as a "bound delegate" and still hope to sway 1144 to the Paul cause in Tampa.

I think Paul is wise to try to walk the fine line of being above the fray but also enough of a rabble-rouser to keep the below-the-fray rabble-rousers supporters rousing rabble. Since, for better or worse, his goal is to reform the Republican party, I think this is his only choice. I have no idea if it will work and if forced to choose, I’d hope he err on the side of ruckus because his rabid supporters are more important than any alliance with the RNC.

There are many dedicated paultards that know the end-goal is taking over the party aparatus. The new chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa is a former Paul campaign staffer.

But there are lots of paultards that actually thought they were going to nominate Ron this year. I hope they don’t bail out when it doesn’t happen.

I went to look at the link, and said “What the fuck?” I see some hardcore Ron Paul supporters listed who are NOT in purple. Vaughn’s in purple, but what about Hankoff?

I’m as quixotic as the next guy, and really thought a victory was possible (it would have taken only 4 percent of the population to defeat Romney in California this week), but it’s strange how some Ron Paul supporters really thought he could get enough stealth delegates to Tampa to win the nomination, without winning a single state and with many of the larger states sending full slates of Romney or Gingrich delegates, while Ron Paul managed some slight delegate majorities in a handful of small caucus states. The math never added up after South Carolina and Florida, despite a promising start in Iowa and New Hampshire.
